Are we still in the 1950's?

The first 3 books were great, but this one is a stinker. After 15 years of being a stay-at-home wife and mom, a woman is made to feel guilty for wanting to take 3 months for a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity. Can her husband support her and encourage her? No, he sulks like a spoiled child. He needs to step up to the plate and have the opportunity to realize what all she has been doing for the last 15 years. (Try googling the definition of emotional labor.) It totally sinks to the bottom when he is made to look like a saint by saying he forgives her. Not much of a man if the only way he can be happy is for his wife to continue to be there to meet his every little need. Hire a housekeeper already. Fly out and surprise your wife for a weekend. Is he not capable of seeing his wife as an actual person? Haven't decided if I'll try another book in this series after this mess.

Family decisions and dreams are the themes for book four in the series. Secrets are revealed, terrible first dates, mistakes forgiven, and the confusion of young love. But in the end, it is all about family at Sweeney House, and all are welcome. I am looking forward to the next book, the new developments at the end are exciting.

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

I loved seeing everyone again, there are rocky romances, new adventures. secretly searching for answers as well as stronger bonds being formed and some new characters including one with a big secret. Get ready for surprises, to laugh and cry not just with sadness, but happiness and celebration as well as get frustrated with decisions made. I can not wait until the next book is out to see what new challenges, successes and new bonds are formed.

I adore Cecelia Scott’s Rosemary Beach series so I went back to this one, despite having stopped because I hated the John/Imani plot so much. I skimmed the Imani chapters to avoid the absurd plot that labels Imani a bad mother for wanting to spend 3 months away from her family for the career opportunity of a lifetime, and John as a saint for sulking and being emotionally manipulative throughout. And then Imani apologizes and begs his forgiveness! The cringe factor is off the charts. I love all the other characters and plot lines so I’ve decided to tough it out, especially since there’s a connection between the later books in this series and Rosemary Beach.

And a few secrets too. Including a big family secret that's revealed at the very beginning of this book. Imani - regretting her decision to leave for work... Taylor - still hung up on Kai, yet attracted to her new buddy, Andre... Annie - the honorary Sweeney sister is feeling like something is missing in her life... And Julie and Sam - nosing around in their father's past. I loved this book as much as the earlier ones. It's well written, with interesting characters and an engaging story line. You remember the saying… “oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive?”, well this really fits into this book.

The sisters discover a secret, and it kind of blows up in their faces. Tay is caught in an emotional dilemma between Kai and Andre. Dottie once again has her heart broken. I really am invested in this Sweeney family. I am enjoying the real life ups and downs of a large extended group. It’s not all happy and joyful. It shows choices and consequences are not always linear.

Book 5 I’m coming for you.

This is another fabulous book in the Sweeney House Series! I love spending time with this family.
This story takes a turn I never thought would happen. The family secret that is revealed makes for an excellent story line.
The family dynamics of this family is so strong that it is felt in every word.
The author knows how to write a story that makes me want to grab the next book in this series.

Editing!

Better editing please. Love the story but too much redundancy. People in general don’t all throw back their head and laugh. They don’t wiggle their eyebrows, or pinch the bridge of their nose. Just needs better editing to be great books. I do love the stories and will continue to read this author. I just needed to state my opinion on what might make the books better.

I love this series because it features people of all ages. Issues in midlife take center stage as a surprise half-sister surfaces, and a formerly SAHM leaves her family (temporarily?) to answer the siren's call of career greatness and fame. Will the Sweeneys be able to handle these upsetting dynamics?

I am very much enjoying this series. It's well-written and cleanly edited. The tone is uplifting. Good job, CS.

secret?

I don’t usually write a review in the middle of a series but…
This installment needed a hook to introduce new characters to the story, okay. And the hook was an old secret… If something or someone is seriously to be a secret you don’t leave clues around, no matter how well they are thought to be hidden.
Sorry…Not a fan of this order of events.
But I want more of Annie’s story so I’m sticking around at least one more time.

This is the fourth book I've read written by Cecelia Scott; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the fourth book in the Sweeney House Series; it can be read as a stand-alone book but would be best if read in order.

I like the family of characters in Cecelia Scotts Series

I liked the easy way this book reads. I like following each character as it develops through the book and into the next one. I read for enjoyment and to learn about places and events. The author gives us a good feeling for the small town aspect of Coco Beach and one of its oldest families. An easy and enjoyable read.

Better and better

This series was a slow burn to start, but once the fire caught, it took off like a rocket. The family dynamics are convoluted and are getting more compelling with each book. There are lots of plot twists to keep things interesting and I'm really enjoying getting to know the Sweeney family.

more reasons to keep reading

I just looked to see if the last two books were published yet. I did not want to be left hanging waiting for the next book(s). This is fresh and I have not been able to let this series rest for more than my work day! When you think you know what is gonna happen, keep reading. Not predictable!

Just finished Cocoa Beach Sunrise. Wow! I am still in shock at all that has happened in this book. So much family emotions. I would love to tell it all, but that isn't fair to those who haven't read the book. All I can say is that this is one amazing book. It is a MUST read book. Cecelia Scott, this book was fantastic!

This is a great series! If you’re a fan of heartwarming stories with plenty of family drama, love, and an emotional roller coaster, be sure and grab this series! Read the books in order - it’s a more complete story! This book, as the previous three, is full of surprises and is a delightful and entertaining read!

Not as good as previous books

Didn't like the addition of the Lori story line. The family stories already in place not
developed. Not interested in reading any more books in the series.

Heart Warming

This is book #4. Each book is better than the last. I love the way you incorporate each character to grab me. Sometimes, it feels so real. You cry, and you laugh and dream as if you are part of their family. Excellent

Book 4 was another great addition to the Sweeney house series. A secret pops up that I never saw coming, a marriage is in crisis, and a relationship takes a complicated turn. This has been a engrossing series that I recommend.
