A good short biography over Martin Luther that gives you a very good overview with good details throughout. A very good read for an overview of Martin Luther's life.

My personal prejudices tarnish my reading of this hard to find Landmark title. This book was difficult to stomach. Luther upheld the authority of Scripture and Fosdick does not. I cannot get past the irony.

I read the 1957 edition. Great read-aloud for our homeschool. Though written with pre-adolescent readers in mind, the entire family enjoyed this book.

This was from the World Landmark books series, companion to the Landmark books, which focused on U.S. history. Both were perfect for young history nerds such as I in the late fifties. As with the Landmark books, I won't enter all that I read. This serves as an example because it was the first "real" book that I read cover to cover in one sitting -- or rather, lying. It was in our basement on a Saturday afternoon when I was in the fourth grade, my head was propped on a burlap bag filled with peca ...more
