Ali Parker is a full-time contemporary and new adult romance writer with more than a hundred and twenty books behind her. She loves coffee, watching a great movie, and hanging out with her hubs. By hanging out, she means making out. The man is hot. Hello. She’s a creative at heart and loves coming up with more ideas than any one person should be allowed to access. She lives in Tennessee with her hubs, teenage son, two grown daughters, and two love-of-her-life grandbabies! Telling a good story that revives hope, reminds us of love, and gives a vacation from life is all she’s up to.
I loved these two so much even though they frustrated the living daylights out of me. As perfect as they were for one another and as determined as some parts of their brains and hearts were to see them together, they were equally determined to sabotage their own efforts. Riggs pretty quickly recognized what they could be together, but I felt like he fumbled his approach almost every time and ended up making some monumentally bad mistakes. Zoe, on the other hand, having been recently burned in the tragic ending of a bad relationship, is resolute in her decision to stay far away from committed romantic relationships of any kind, making Riggs work harder (and sneakier) than he might have had to otherwise. The path to their Happy Ever After is an absolute comedy of errors that’s as frustrating as it is funny. I loved seeing the ending they achieve, I just wish it could have been easier for them. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
What happens if you were in love with your best friend, but she just wants to stay friends? Riggs has loved Zoe since they were kids, but he never acted on it. That is until she needed a place to stay after she was evicted and her dirtbag fiance cheated on her. Zoe isn't looking for a relationship right now. Her ex really messed her up. She's not sure if she can ever trust another guy. But Riggs has been the only guy she ever trusted. Just not in a romantic way. You can see deep down that she has feelings for him, but her past makes it difficult to show her feelings to him. They agree to set each other up on "blind" dates. Riggs only wants her, though. Why can't she see that?
That is until that Halloween night. But sex was a mistake for Zoe. That means she was going to lose her best friend because of the sex. Leaving him a "Dear John" note wasn't the best idea. Ghosting him the next week wasn't any better. And then he moves out without even telling him.
This book was good. I liked how the couple finally found each other, but there was a lot of extra stuff that felt like it went on for too long. I was frustrated with both characters at times, more Zoe, though. If they would have just listened to each other. I would have given the story a 5-star, I just wish it would have been slightly shorter duration of a story.
This book held such promise the first few chapters. The characters were made and we learned their story. The plot progressed. Then it became like reading a terrible fanfiction. Zoe keeps giving these bad reasons why she can't be with Riggs, all the while wanting to be with him. There is no real reason she can't be with him. She blames it on being hurt by her ex, but even that is a stretch.
Riggs, who was explained to be a "good guy" even though for all intents and purposes he's a spoiled, rich kid, makes selfish decisions and picks fights and fires people on a whim. He's constantly going back and forth on his feelings for Zoe and though he says he loves her, he never tells her and just let's her run away each time.
They start the friends with benefits situation and it gets more complicated. They both have feelings for the other, get jealous when they go on dates, and overall are being dumb about it all.
I couldn't even finish the book because the wishy washiness became unbearable about 274 pages in. However, with its predictability, I know that Zoe and Riggs will eventually be together. I just couldn't stomach all the crap I would have to read to get to the end.
This book gets two stars cause it had a promising beginning.

Zoe and Riggs met at summer camp as shy ten and eleven year olds bonding over the unfairness of being sent to a camp they didn't want to attend. Best friends even after Riggs moved away reconnect in a way that makes him her hero once again. Offering Zoe a room in his house is no hardship for these best friends until the awareness starts to set in that they are no longer gangly kids. Is it worth the risk to cross that line?? Throw in a lively grandma that sees too much, bad blind dates, a very pushy fake fiance and a cheating ex... What could possibly go wrong??? A fantastic story of finding the best part of yourself right in front of your eyes. There will be times you want to shake someone and other times you'll want to hug and protect them. His/her POV, no cliffhanger, page turner and a very hard won HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and i highly recommend it!! Great job Ali Parker!!
This is a three star story written by a 4-5 star writer! Ali Parker is so well written and her story is so cohesive that stars were flying off the shelf even when I wasn’t connecting to our characters or the story.
I felt the pull of the will they won’t they friends to lovers trope but it was SO back and forth that it grew tiresome. It became a bit repetitive and maybe that was due to the length (just under 550 pages, quite long for a modern contemporary rom com) but as some point these two just had to sh!t or get off the pot and it too us a while to get there.
That being said, Riggs is a dream boat, clarice is sweetheart, autumn hunter and golden were adorable, Brooke was a psycho and most of the time for me, Zoe was just okay.
This is a friends to lovers second chance romance that is sweet at its core and well written beyond words, but the FMC fell flat enough to lose my interest.
I was trying hard not to look at her boobs, but damn, they were nice. It was a great rack. Beautiful.
Yeah... DNF @ 17%. The writing was weird, the story felt off and the H- oh boy, the H. I stopped reading when he was standing over h, watching her sleep, deciding he does want her and decides he's going to secretly date her. You know, without her knowing. SERIOUSLY. I looked twice to verify this was in fact written by a woman- this horrible writing of a man and boundaries felt more like a man's writing. I should really pay attention more when I'm browsing KU, I tried Ali Parker in 2018 and only read the first in one of their trilogies. Clearly they have not improved with time.
This was a great read. It was very long and at times my attention was more on how many chapters I had left to what was going on. It was full of laughter, anger, hurt, chemistry, not so great schemes and one smart and sneaky grandma!
I loved that these two best friends actually reconnected after years of not talking all due to a sneaky grandma planting a seed. I loved that even though they haven’t seen each other in years, when they were together, it was like no time had passed at all. Full of drama and hardheaded people, you will experience all kinds of plot twists.
I can’t wait to see what else Ali has imagined up and plans to share with us.
EVERY emotion this book will drag out of reader. I knew was in trouble when only 32% through book and tears were streaming down face. Zoe is a firecracker who has a habit of getting in her own way. Being a grade school teacher has her living her dream. To become something bigger than herself. Dreamy Riggs, her childhood best friend runs a building development company. They have share of problems but the patching up is amazing…
Riggs sees his best friend Zoe after a few years, and zing, it's on. Their friendship had waned over the past few years, but he's back to stay, and she's temporarily homeless, he offers her a spare room. Now everything goes sideways. Not your expected friends with benefits. They both refuse to communicate their feelings and continue to cause each other heartache. Not my favorite, I found myself frustrated and trying to will them to talk.
This book had me from the first page to the last. Riggs and Zoe were childhood friends. When Zoe finds out her boyfriend is cheating, she goes back to her home town. Riggs has moved back to be closer to his Grandmother. They run into each other and Riggs finds out she has no place to live and invites her to stay with him. Then the fun begins. They have a ton of ups, downs and misunderstandings. But it all works out and they do find their HEA.
Was somewhat disappointed in this friends to lovers book. Zoe was right thinking that Riggs deserved someone better then her. For her to teach kids, she acted very childish. All wishy washy about her ex and Riggs. It was inevitable they would have a HEA. However much of the drama could have been left out and perhaps put in a H.S. romance novel
I enjoyed the story line. Ali Parker did an awesome job. Zoe & Riggs were friends from a young age and over time sometimes that can change. They are great together and it was hard on them to realize whom they love. This is a great read. I truly enjoyed it. I would recommend you one clicking so you can enjoy it now.
POV: Dual - Hero & Heroine Trope: Friends to Lovers, Roommates to Lovers HEA: Yes Steam Level: 4/4 Swearing: 5/5 Trigger Warnings: Alcohol, Cheating (not with H&h), Cancer, Hospitalization
Riggs & Zoe Hmmm… I’m not sure I loved this book. I think it has a great premise– two best friends reunited. But it felt like there was so much thrown into this book that wasn’t necessary.
I hate to say this, but the book felt like it was written by amateur. Ali Parker has been writing great books for a long time, so it was surprising to feel that way.
The book has 545 pages in it, but it felt like it could have been told in like 330. When I got to the 25% mark and they were already having their “torn apart” moment, I was kind of shocked and was wondering where they could go from there.
The name of the book is misleading. Zoe ‘moves out’ after they have sex the first time, which means they’re no longer roommates. I know this is a technicality, but I anticipated forced proximity and yearning moments. There were some, but it was VERY short lived.
Poor freaking Riggs man. The guy knew he loved Zoe and just wanted to be with her, but got shut down so many times. I had whiplash for him.
One reviewer said it perfectly when they said they were disappointed, and much of the drama was unnecessary and would have been better in a High School romance. I agree with this.
The only one who really had their head on straight was Riggs’ grandmother– Clarice.
I was really happy when they finally got their happy ending. Riggs freaking deserved it. Yes, Zoe went through her own crap. But Riggs seriously went through the ringer.
Altogether, no. I DEFINITELY won’t be reading this book and don’t recommend for those looking for a good roommates to lovers romance.
(My steam level, swearing ratings and trigger warnings are based on a scale I created for my blog - http://diaryofabookworm.blog/)
Ali Parker is one of my favorite authors and she didn't disappoint with this book. Zoee and Riggs went through all kinds of drama before finally realizing they belonged together. I loved this story line. It showed what many of us have gone through. We just can't seem to get out of our own way to find true love. But find it when we just "relax and go with the flow. "

I just loved Riggs and Zoe story!! They were childhood friends and they always had feelings for each other and finally couldn't fight their feelings and longer!! I would recommend this book to everyone!
This is the second book in the Always You Series. Riggs and Zoe's story is beautifully written, and sweet. I loved to follow them in their journey to love. This is a great friends-to-lovers romance. I enjoyed it.
I loved the plot itself. I really did. It was adorable. But the way it was written just seemed off in a way. I dont really know how to explain it but it kept me from really diving into the story. I give it a 2 on the pepper scale in terms of spice
I was really worried when I saw how long this book was, but I read it in a couple of nights. The story was full of ups and downs, but I wanted to keep reading to figure out how everything would end up. I had a difficult time pursuing it down for bed.
3.5 stars. It was a good read. There was just a little too much back and forth and the characters not knowing what they want. It unfortunately didn't hit the mark for me.
“Roomies with Benefits” by Ali Parker is an ‘Always You’ novel but it can be read as a standalone story. It’s a friends-to-lovers, slow-burn love story with a lot of angst and drama.
Zoe and Riggs have been best friends since they were about 10 years old. Sometimes life interferes with them staying in touch, but when they get back in communication again, it’s like not a day has passed. As the story begins, Zoe is actually engaged, and her engagement is ended by something terrible she discovers about her fiance. She needs a place to stay while she figures her life out, and Riggs has a house full of extra bedrooms – so when he offers, she accepts. Each of them has secretly crushed on the other, and now close proximity provides irresistible temptation. But they both also value their friendship above just about everything else in their lives, and if they start a romantic relationship, they could put that friendship at risk if the romance fizzled. And so begins the mishaps of seeking romantic partners for one another. While they are doing that, they still can’t resist one another.
This book was a little difficult to review because it’s a complicated story. Each of the lead characters tries on other relationships, and the failed attempts reinforce their feelings for one another. Riggs is such a great guy, always trying to do the right thing. Zoe is a little irritating at times because she can’t seem to see what’s right in front of her - but then you have to remember the trauma she’s been through. There’s “other man” and “other woman” drama (multiple times), and situations that basically amount to cheating although it’s a fine line because no verbal commitments had been made. The secondary characters range from amusing to entertaining to kind of crazy. Riggs has a wonderful grandmother who was my favorite secondary character out of them all. When Zoe and Riggs get to the place of having their “happy ever after”, the emotional turmoil was all worth it.
When Zoe is evicted from her apartment she plans to move in with her fiancé. When she arrives, oops, there’s a nearly naked girl in his bed waiting for him. Hopes and dreams crushed, she goes back to her hometown to try and start over. When she reaches out to her lifelong friend, Brooks, he offers her a room at his house, and she jumps at the chance. They slip into the easy, friendly relationship they’ve always had. When Zoe decides they should play matchmaker for each other, feelings start to get real. They’re obviously attracted to each other and as things heat up, Briggs suggests they be “roomies with benefits”. Things get complicated when they both start to date others until finally, Zoe moves out. These two put up more roadblocks in their relationship so it takes longer than it should for them to realize they are meant to be together. This is a good story, and it takes a while to get to the happy ending but it’s worth the wait.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.
