Rush Hockey #4

Love, Pucks, and Other Stories

Rate this book
I hated hockey players.
While the Rush had cleaned up their act and were no long wreaking havoc in my town, Joel—captain and a talented forward on the team—was wreaking havoc on my life .
He’d made it his mission to push my buttons on a regular basis.
The man was equal parts infuriating and distracting…
And gorgeous.
The worst part? I hadn’t expected that I would like him.
That I would want him.
That I would become desperate for him to want me back.

*This is book one in Billie Rose and Joel's trilogy.

This book is part of a series so previous books events are referenced to but this book is book 1 of a trilogy.
Hard working heroine, who put up a hard exterior but she has huge issues and hangups, to do with her family.
Her older brother died when her mum was pregnant or just after she was born and she is constantly compared to him.
The Hero and heroine have butted heads in the past and have some banter back and forth, unknown to the Hero some of his comments really play on her history of being emotionally neglected.

They hook up, there are weeks between each encounter as he travels with hockey.
No other woman or man drama.

Cliffhanger.
Loads of inner monologue.

Spoiler.
She finally is happy in their relationship and the end finished with her discovering he's married.
Next book reveals he thought he was divorced 5 years ago, the ex, nonex motives are a mystery.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

You know what - I hate Elise Faber at the moment. I'm emotionally wrecked. You know how they say if something is too good to be true they usually are? That saying is perfect description in this book.

After everything that has happened you would think our poor Billie Rose would catch a break but nooo... I'm fuming and I know everything will work out at the end but as of this moment - Joel is on my shit list!!

And yes I understand that this review gives nothing away but when you read this, you'll be fuming too. If not we can NOT be friends 😜

4 star Review Love, Pucks & Other Stories (Rush Hockey #4) by Elise Faber

Be prepared this book ends in a cliffhanger, so you have been warned. I liked Billie Rose and Joel and was drawn into their story.
There was so much more to both Billie and Joel than I first thought. Mayor, Billie is determined to bring her town back to it’s former glory after the fire that devastated it. Joel, a professional hockey player admire Billie and her focus.
When we first met Billie in a previous book, she intrigued me. The push and pull dynamic of their relationship was entertain and I am looking forward to what Ms. Faber has in store for this couple.

Creating new foundations.

Billie Rose is the mayor of Rivers Bend and is managing the aftermath of a huge fire that destroyed most of the town. The one irritation in her life is a hockey player called Joel. When they end up in bed together, Billie is ashamed when she thinks Joel is disgusted by her and leaves. Becoming adept at avoiding Joel, Billie feels like she needs to harden herself to him. Joel realises that he wants to get to know Billie and starts to try to spend time with her. Helping out with the aftermath of the fire helps them to become closer.
Will Billie freak out and pull away as is her usual trademark or will she finally understand she deserves more?
This was a gripping read with characters who were meant to be together! But why a cliffhanger just as they were heading towards their HEA??

Let’s get the first issue out of the way here…yes, this first-in-a-trilogy ends with a cliffhanger. Honestly though? It’s well worth the wait!

This is Billie Rose and Joel’s story. But really, the focus is on Billie Rose. Or maybe it just seems that way because of all the energy she expends as mayor of “her” small town of River’s Bend which, at the end of the last story (So Pucking Over It) had sustained major fire damage…a majority of the town was destroyed. So Billie Rose does what she always does when it comes to the town and people of River’s Bend…she works hard to make things right for everyone.

But who takes care of Billie Rose? Not her dysfunctional family (except for her niece Bailey whom Billie is more of a big sister to than an aunt).

Seeing the pain Billie Rose feels for the utter destruction of her town, Joel Marshall, member of the Rush hockey team located in town, moves to comfort her. But in doing so, (avoiding spoilers here), he actually causes her more pain.

And unfortunately, even as their relationship progresses, Joel continues to be somewhat clueless to the fact that his words hurt Billie. But is Billie showing Joel her true self? Or has she spent so many years molding herself into what others expect that she’s lost herself? When he sees the real Billie, can he help her see that THAT is the Billie Rose she should be free to be?

So yes…lots of layers here, and we are left with a cliffhanger, but looking forward to seeing how the rest of Billie Rose’s story unfolds and her HEA!

I was excited that Billie Rose and Joel were getting their own story but I will not lie, I’m nervous about them having their own trilogy. I was happy to see them together but know that they are going to go through some heart breaking bumps before getting to their HEA. And the cliffhanger of book one started the cracks.
Billie Rose is the young mayor of River Bend. She is a super organizer that does seem to take crap from anyone including the Rush hockey team. If you read Bailey and Axel’s books you know how tedious Billie Rose is. Getting to see things from her point of view we have a better understanding of the how and why she is the way she is. We also get to see her love for planners and washi tape. Billie Rose and Joel have a tension filled relationship from the start but it becomes obvious that they are also misreading each other a bit. As Joel comes to the realization that he actually adores Billie Rose, we get to see him step up his game. He was a bit surprising and very caring. Something that Billie Rose has difficulty accepting.
We get a lot of Billie Rose’s background in this book. And with a trilogy, the characters can really be developed strongly. Joel keeps having this inner dialogue about discovering her layers and that is very true. Joel may seem like her complete opposite but they have similar work ethics and both care deeply about those they love. I like that Billie Rose is not stereotypical but still very relatable. And I appreciate that Joel is content with his position in the minor leagues and looking to settle down permanently in River Bend. However, I have a feeling Joel also has some deep layers that we will have to get through in book 2.

This is the next book in the Rush Hockey series following on from Bailey and Axel and the fire that devastated River's Bend. This book focuses on Billie Rose, the mayor of River's Bend and Joel, a hot hockey player for the Rush. Billie Rose and Joel have been bickering back and forth since they met, but there is chemistry too, so when Joel sees Billie Rose in a state of distress, he immediately goes to her and after a lot of alcohol they end up in bed together. And it was great! But Billie Rose has been rejected, criticized and trodden on so many times that she cannot believe that anyone would take an interest in her for anything other than physical release. But as Joel spends more and more time chasing Billie Rose around River's Bend as she does her best to avoid him, he digs deeper and sees how much she is hurting and the barriers she is putting up. He knows he has a lot of work to do, to break down those barriers and just when he thinks he has managed it, someone comes back into his life to turn that upside down.

This book finishes on a cliffhanger that you never saw coming. The book continues in the style of the first three books in this series, and although not my favorite style of Ms. Faber's writing, it is still a fast paced, enjoyable book. Looking forward to the next installment.

Love, Pucks, and Other Stories is the first book in the a new trilogy for the Rush Hockey team.
Mayor Billie Rose and Rush Hockey player Joel can’t stand each other. Opposites in many ways, yet oddly drawn to one another. As Billie Rose takes on the daunting task of building her town up after the fire, Joel is realizing that someone needs to have Billie Rose’s back, too, and that someone should be him. But can he convince her that he’s all in, or will too many hurts from their past cause more pain?

Oh my goodness, I read this book in one day. I was half in anticipation to see how Billie Rose and Joel can connection and find a space for each other, but half in epic fear of what would happen by the end of this book, knowing it’s a trilogy that will follow these characters the whole time. It hurts to know how much these characters are going through, it hurts to see the little slices of pain they both give to each other, but it was pure joy to watch them open up to the possibility of more and of love. Billie Rose is such a dynamic character. She’s always on the move, she’s completely selfless, and she has so much pain that she keeps shoving down. I loved her so much. Joel is determined and I loved that as much as he wanted to stay away, he just couldn’t resist her. And not only that, but could really see her. It was a great connection that was super tentative and fragile and some of the hurt just started to bleed away and then there was that ending. Holy smokes. You can’t just end a book like that! But I’m putting my faith and trust in Ms. Faber to see this couple to a happy ending when it’s all over.

Once again Ms. Faber delivers one story that will have you loving the characters, addicted to the storyline and laughing at the banter that happens between her main characters. Love, Pucks and Other Stories sees Billie Rose and Joel, two people who hate to love one another, helping their small-town rebound after a devastating fire. Billie is the town's mayor and Joel is a hockey player that gets under her skin. They both have feelings for one another but the hate that they have for one another is stronger, or is it a form of foreplay? The chemistry that they share is off the charts. Billie's life is full of stress and it is coming from all directions, family, Joel and trying to get the town back on its feet. Can Joel ease her stress or will he just make it worse?

I loved these two together. When Ms. Fsber introduced them to us in the Rush Hockey Trilogy I knew that their story was going to be one that will be filled with emotions but also laughs and fantastic banter between them. The cliffhanger had me wanting to throw my device and shaking my head. Pick up Love, Pucks and Other Stories and be prepared for a book that you will not be able to put down.

I love Elise Faber and her books, but this one took me awhile to get into. I’m not sure why, but something had me disliking Billie Rose and how hard she tried to push Joel away. Joel was also a little off at first, in my opinion. Once some of the walls started shifting I really enjoyed the banter and the connection of the couple.
Joel is a minor league hockey player who is setting roots in River’s Bend. At first he didn’t like Billie Rose, but he started realizing that a lot of her attitude was a facade and he wanted to get to know the softer side of her as well. Billie Rose is the mayor and has a lot on her plate. She is trying to rebuild the town after a devastating fire and once she starts to let Joel in you start to understand her a bit better.
The cliffhanger has me wanting the next book now and I can’t wait to see how he gets out of the situation or if the situation is real. Knowing Billie Rose she will erect the wall higher and sturdier than before and he will have his work cut out for himself.
I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

I have been waiting for this....
I have wanted to read Billie Rose's story from meeting her in Bailey's story and this did not disappoint. There is so much more to Billie Rose than you see from what she puts out to the world. The depth into her actions and watching Joel finally start to see behind her armor. I loved Joel and how hard he fought to get to know Billie Rose and start something when she was fighting him every step of the way. There is a lot of feeling in this read and you really feel for these characters. Oh boy was there some steamy parts and you start with them almost out of the gate, that chemistry was hot, hot, hot!!!! The cliff hanger though.....ahhhhh.....nooooo! I didn't see that coming and now I have to wait for the next and I want to know now!!! I feel you should read Bailey's story before this one as there are so many moving parts that will make more sense. I loved this read, that cliff hanger was brutal though!!!!

Let’s start with the bad part first. It ends with a major cliffhanger. Yeah I know it says trilogy and you would assume that but I really don’t like cliffhangers at all. I honestly only read this one because I love Elise’s books and I can’t wait for all three of them to be out and ready.

So this one is Joel and Billie Rose’s story. You meet them at the first Rush trilogy and if you are like me totally like their bantering. Billie Rose is a workaholic and doesn’t give herself time for fun. She is desperately trying to get her town back on track after the fire. Joel is helping as much as he can and they spend a lot of time together and his feelings toward Billie are starting to kick in but he needs to work hard to get her trust. And he does. Billie finally let’s him in and the start a great relationship with HF bedtime and Joel pays attention to the little things to make Billie Rose happy until the end of book one and a bomb drops……

Love, Pucks, and Other Stories is a fantastic read. I loved this one so much. This is Billie Rose and Joel's story. You are going to just love this couple. Billie Rose is the mayor who is trying to put her town back together after the fire. She is independent and so strong trying to keep everything together. Joel is a minor league hockey player who is putting his roots down in the small town of River Bend. I love the chemistry between Billie Rose and Joel. They have this slow build as they fight their attraction that you will just love. I love how Joel slowly breaks down Billie Rose's wall. As you get to know Billie Rose you understand why she is the way she is. You feel for her with all the pressure she is under. This cliffy has me wanting the next book now. I cannot wait to see where this trilogy goes with Joel and Billie Rose.

Billie Rose has had enough of the puck boy's and there bunnies and with everything in chaos after a fire she's not in the mood for Joel and his team the Rush. Joel can't stand Billie Rose's attitude about her town his priorities are family and Hockey then he sees how hard being Mayor is and that Billie Rose isn't who he thinks.

Billie Rose has had a mother a week a month of just to much so she needs to relieve some of that stress and suddenly after a night of drinks Joel doesn't seem so bad until the next day.

They may have had a major hate thing going on but now Joel wants Billie he just has to work threw all those thorns and just as things get good Joel's past causes a major cliffhanger the next book can't get here fast enough.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Love, Pucks and Other Stories

Despite this being book 1 of a series, there’s a lot to take in. I’m assuming there was another ‘sister series’ that led to the events of this series, I’ll need to have a look. Because of this, there’s a bit of a backstory that had me lost for a bit.
Billie Rose is the town’s mayor and Joel is a bad boy hockey player (although throughout this book, we’re never given a reason why he’s bad).
You can feel their chemistry through the pages, it was real, despite Bille Rose’s hatred of Joel.
This was a book that took me a few chapters to get into it, but then I was invested. Then Elise Faber hit me with that ending!!! I’m not normally a fan of storylines spread/dragged out over number books but this one’s really tempting me to pay the £4.99 for book 2!

Wow! I loved this story so much! We finally get Billie Rose and Joel’s story. It’s loaded romance, friends, family, heartbreak and love. The chemistry between them is explosive! Billy Rose has had her hands full as Mayor and building her town back after a devastating fire. Joel is a talented forward on the Rush Hockey team. They butt heads while fighting their feelings. It takes a while but Joel slowly breaks down her walls. Love, Pucks and Other Stories ends in a cliffhanger the had my mouth hanging in shock. Elise sure knows how to leave you hanging in a good way. I love the Rush Hockey series and this first book in the latest trilogy is fantastic! I can’t wait for All’s Fair in Pucks and War the next book in this series!

Billie Rose is my favorite! She solidified that love with her love of planners and planner accessories. I was a bit worried about Joel at first thinking he could be similar to Axel in the beginning of Bailey's story. However that wasn't the case. This man truly cares for Billie Rose, and just wants her to be happy.

Billie Rose's family history was difficult to read, and my heart broke for her.

Love Joel and Billie Rose's chemistry. I also love how Billie Rose is trying to fight it.
That locker room scene though? Oooh, that was good.

Also, I loved the protective nature that came out in Joel when it came to Billie Rose. I'm still not 100% sure what to think of Billie Rose's dad.

That cliffhanger? Oofta, that was not what I was expecting.

Billie Rose is the youngest mayor of River's Bend, it has recently burnt down, she's trying very hard to hide her tears, when she bumps into Joel, who she thinks hates her. He calls her harpy and is nasty to her, he doesn't seem to realise how hurtful he's being.
Billie Rose is working all the time to try to build the town back up, to get everyone living in proper homes instead of the gym,or like her in the trailer that's her office.
She's never felt wanted, her brother died when he was very young and she felt she was just in the way.
But Joel perseveres and things seem to be going well, and then ...Elise leaves us hanging! When is the next one out? Can we wait that long?

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

A great next in the serial

Billie Rose is the mayor of River’s Bend, and she has her hands full while getting the town back together after a devastating fire. Joel is the captain and talented forward for the Rush team, and he is determined to knock down Billie Roses’ walls no matter how much she tries to avoid him, and he certainly knows how to push her buttons. This is a well written story which ends on a cliffhanger, and is filled with romance, family, friendships, heartbreak, combustible chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner, and I cannot wait to read the next book in this incredible trilogy.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Love, Pucks and Other Stories is the first book in this trilogy, but be warned, it ends with a cliffhanger.

Billie Rose is the mayor of Rivers Bend and is working hard to rebuild the small town after a wild, arson suspected fire devastated it. And one night with Joel Marshall has completely changed everything for both of them. She is constantly trying to push him away but he, on the other hand is doing everything he can to draw her in and peel back the layers she holds onto so tightly. Little by little he opens up her heart and just when it seems they have moved their relationship forward, the shoe will drop and boy did it ever.

Unlike most other Elise Faber books that I've read, this story is not a standalone. It is part 1, but if you want the HEA, you're going to have to keep going. If you've read the Rush Hockey Trilogy then you'll be familiar with the characters of Billie Rose and Joel and this books give us more of an insight into each of them. While I'm not overly fond of the title, I enjoyed this book very much. I loved the way that Billie Rose and Joel interacted and loved the way their relationship progressed. In fact, things were going so smoothly I wondered what cause there would be for not making this a single book instead of a trilogy. Then the twist happened and now I can't wait until book 2.

Billie Rose is a woman with a difficult past who is trying to help her town recover from recent devastating events. The last thing she needs is to be distracted by a hockey player who is a combination of sexy and aggravating.

Joel is a hockey player who finds Billie Rose intriguing and enticing. The more he gets to know about her the more he wants to be with her but that is about to become even more difficult than he expected.

The interactions between Billie Rose and Joel are entertaining which combined with the emotional side of the story will leave you wanting more of this couple and their story.

This is book one in Billy Rose and Joel’s trilogy and I need to point out this book does finish on a cliffhanger so be warned.
Mayor Billie knows what is needed to bring her town back to life after it was devastated by a fire and its Joel a professional hockey player who admires her determination but wants more from the local mayoress …..
This book is a great start to the trilogy and I’m excited to see where Ms Faber takes us in the next instalment. Book one certainly has given us an insight into Billie and Joel’s life, I adored this couple and I was drawn into their relationship from the moment I picked up Love, Pucks and Other Stories.

Love, Pucks and Other Stories, the fourth book in the Rush Hockey series, but book one in the new trilogy following Mayor of River’s Bend, Billie Rose and hockey player Joel Marshall. We first meet Billie Rose in a previous book in this series, and after the events of the previous trilogy, Billie Rose is determined to bring the town back to its former glory. When Joel decides to help Billie Rose, he doesn’t realize that his words affect her more than his actions. But when Billie Rose begins to feel attraction towards Joel, will she be able to push aside her feelings and finish her work on the town? Or will one drunken night with Joel change things forever?

I love hockey romances, but I did not like my 1st venture into Elise Faber's hockey world, Backhand. I struggled to get through that one and found nothing enjoyable.

I hesitated to give this book a go because of that bad experience. But as a free read and in need of something to occupy my time while waiting at the doctor's office, I give it a start. While there were a lot of moments where our heroine's flaws were getting on my nerves, this was a huge improvement over Backhand and a decent 3 to 3.5 read.

I'm guessing as this is part of a planned trilogy -- yes, there is a cliffhanger to #2 -- Faber had plotted out a more fully realized storyline and had more content to work with.

Enemies to lovers, hockey player, small town mayor, fighting feelings, and HOTT HOTT spice!!!

This is the first book in a trilogy, but not the first book in the 'Rush universe'. But do not let that scare you away. You can start with this book, it will just make you curious on one of the secondary characters and what happened before. But everything you need to know will be given to you.

This is the first in a trilogy. And man, does it end on a cliffhanger! I immediately went to see how long until the next book came out!!!! So good!!!

was so good. Billie rose and Joel have been bickering for a couple of years. As mayor when her town burns down he catches her at an all time low and they get drunk and sleep together. He is so upset he slept with her but not for t h e reasons she thinks. As he starts peeling back layers he discovers via wonderful person she is and he falls hard for her.she also learns to trust him and moves in with him. Then his wife show up and we come to where elise leaves us hanging. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Finally getting the story of Billie and Joel! Slow, slow burn as it takes him a long time to break through all of her defenses. This story picks up after the fire that decimated the town. Billie is quite busy organizing food, shelter and the rebuild. Joel is in awe of her strength and stamina. I really enjoyed their push and pull and watching them both soften to one another. But alas the end is a surprise! Anxiously awaiting book two!

Devastating fire destroys River Bend. As mayor Billie Rose is in her element helping everyone find shelter, food, etc. Long hours, organizational planning, little sleep have become her life. Joel, captain of the rush hockey team, tries to help despite her hatred of hockey players and him in particular.
Well written, fast moving, witty and entertaining, this is their story, book 1 in their trilogy.
