Vidhuna, the protagonist, was born in 2167, the era in which humanity is at its peak of evolution, an era of bliss and harmony, where verbal communication had become redundant, and humans connected on a higher level. Vidhuna has the capacity of the 21st century humans, to communicate verbally, and only verbally and chooses to travel back in time to 2016, as she feels she belongs to that period.
This book is the journey of Vidhuna in our current times, as she gets involved with two families, both battered by narcissism, hypocrisy, and betrayal. Finding Revant, an Autistic boy who helps her navigate from verbal to non-verbal, and John whose innocence moves her. Vidhuna’s learnings, her unanswered questions, as she decides if she has to stay on or leave to her time, where she might still be a misfit…. Read on……
It is a tale of a girl named Vidhuna who traveled from 2167 to 2015. There is no language in her world, and she has difficulty sharing her thoughts which leads her parents to send her back into the past.
This story is tagged as sci-fi, but there is a tiny element of that genre in this book, and it disappoints me. However, I read various speculative fiction books and can say that this story has a deeper meaning. The characters will help you realize that life is straightforward, only we complicate it too much.
This book proved to be a moderate read for me, and I recommend it to newbies, those with autistic children, or those who live in meaningless relationships without even realizing the truth.
Decoded is Sheeba Sojanar’s debut novel, which begins as a sci-fi but soon turns into a contemporary fiction that delves deep in the skins of our society that is judgmental and discriminating towards special and autistic children. As the story commences, the earth has been ruined to inhabitable state due to the third world war…the time is 2100 AD. Life moved on to a different technologically advanced planet. The girl Vidhuna, the lead character in the novel, is clumsily a misfit on her planet. She could communicate and think like the humans of once-existed earth. She travels back in time to earth around 2016. As she lands on earth, the novel turns contemporary and society focused. Vidhuna is a special child on earth and everywhere. She has the power to pick up thought waves. However, on earth she is just another new-born type novice. Knowing anything at all, except the language, one special educator Rose picks up and arranges her stay in some orphanage. As the story press forwards, Vidhuna finds a social circle of two families and their domestic discordant. Manju and Ranjan – Rose and Theo! Here onward, much of the story is about family drama of these families. Vidhuna remains just a middle person for both, from time and again guiding females for empowerment. Apart from that, she picks up Revanth, the autistic child of Manju and Ranjan, who learns to perform better in the society. Vidhuna could pick up silent communication signals of autistic Revanth, and the society was failing to do so. In return, Revanth provides signals to Vidhuna so that she could learn a lot about humans and earth. She spends considerably a long time on earth as a family member of two families. But her overall experience of earth wasn’t pleasant, she found out that humans are heading towards destruction. They are devoid of integrity, honesty, moral values – they are doing everything to appease their desires and aspirations. The broad message in the book is for autistic children. The society turns blind eyes to them, doesn’t understand their communicative signals; rather mocks them. The novel is also a good read for family drama. “Decoded” deals with layered, complex, and difficult issues, but Sheeba does it with her superb easy-to-comprehend narrative that exudes vibes of lightness and sensitivity while not minimizing anything at all.
Sheeba Sojanar's debut novel brings two worlds autistic (special children) together. The broad theme of the novel is seeking acceptance for autistic people, which has been impressively depicted through Vidhuna and Revanth, two main characters. The novel is placed around them. The story begins on a different planet in time of 2167 AD. The humans of this planet and time are way advanced, so as so that they are controlled by chips for temperature and food. The story lands on Earth in back time in 2016 by time travel of the lead girl. She was a kind of misfit at her own planet. The novel turns entirely into a new direction when earth fulfills its backdrop. Vidhuna meets Revanth, an autistic boy and others like Rosa, Theo, Ranjan, Manju, etc. Surprisingly, she finds earth a negative place, people's aspirations and needs are in moral turmoil. Vidhuna remains present and an influence all through the novel, soon we plunge into the depths of two families. The focus finally converges to the focal point of family. Even Vidhuna remains in touch with her father and goes back in the end but the family is a big thing everywhere, on all planet. The novel is social with its rudimentary aspect, however, it has glimpses of a sci-fi...but it isn't in its skins. At times, the story beats around the bush, there is a flaw of redundancy and repetitive episodes of Manju and Ranjan but yet the novel chugs ahead charmingly.
On a plus point, not a hard novel to finish in a couple of days. If you enjoy special story of autistic people and social drama, this novel is excellent. Writing and language usage like vocabulary and idioms and phrases is simple, resonating with readers. I was really glad that I did not find this novel a saga of tough uncomprehending layering of words. Sheeba impresses with her lucid narration. She understood that the language must be user-friendly, not some intriguing gimmick of literature. The novel has a handful of characters, yet the novel does not look short on anything. The characters kept driving the story as and when they were fuelled by their dilemmas and other patterns. Overall, a genuine read.
Decoded by Sheeba Sojanar is an engrossing novel that takes us through two different worlds via one character Vidhuna. The novel is a combination of futuristic and contemporary genres. In a different world than the earth, a girl named Vidhuna is a misfit. She travels back in time of 2016 on earth for some learning.
On earth the focus of the story shifts to two families: Rose and Theo, and Manju and Ranjan. Vidhuna is common to both. There is discord in both families, level varying. The novel gradually paces to evaluate why relationships break and people turn out selfish for their personal gains over family and brotherhood. Ranjan and Theo both were unfaithful to their wives. While Rose accepted it silently, Manju was seeking justice and revenge and created brouhaha. Through these families Vidhuna grasps her share of learning before going back.
Vidhuna’s character was of like omnipresent, she was able to understand things that normal people failed to do so. She had higher powers than others but the world reckoned her as autistic. Yes, Vidhuna was autistic but it didn’t come as a curse in the story, as a matter of fact, she was portrayed powerful. She not only gets acquainted with Revanth but also helps him in healing socially and mentally. Revanth was the autistic child of Manju and Ranjan.
Sheeba’s way of narrating events with alternate families is simple and effective. The pace and language of the novel looked controlled. She sketched characters with an aura of peculiar idiosyncrasies, they were apt and perfect. Overall, it’s a relevant novel with a credible and pragmatic story with relevant messages for all of us.
Decoded by Sheeba Sojanar is a novel about an autistic child who comes to earth from a different planet ‘Trappists’. She decodes many aspects of life while living with two families and stumbling upon a few more people. She found people of earth heading towards destruction due to no self-honesty and indulging into treachery and false pretences for their own interests and benefits. The lead character is a girl named Vidhuna, she was born in 2167 on the planet Trappists. That planet is way advanced than earth in all aspects. In 2167 the earth is a history, it has been destructed due to nuclear war and there is no life.
However, Vidhuna was a misfit on her own planet. Her father being a good man, sends her on a time travel she wished to live in 2016 on earth. The premises and early chapters of the novel totally give a feel of bumpy science fiction with some fantasy chills. However, as I and Vidhuna settle down in earth we came across our daily commonplace hue and cry that grips the human race of earth.
With Vidhuna in 2016 on earth, the novel is contemporary in its stance, with high voltage family drama unfolding at the echelons of society and its allied people. For Vidhuna the earth was screwed up place with people like Theo, Ranjan, Manju, etc. She reads their intentions and misdeeds, guided them for righteousness but to no avail. She was a stranger to earth, unable to grasp its working system, and why people here live with so much discontent and greed.
"Decoded" by Sheeba Sojanar is an intriguing time travel drama. Where the protagonist "vidhuna" , who travels from a peaceful and harmonious community of the year 2167 Ad to 2016 Ad . The transition in plot between present and future were amazing and author has incorporated it very well. A future where humans no longer communicate with words.
I liked the way author has proceed the entire story . Although, I feel connected to the story till the end. But at the same time I cant term this novel a complete science-fiction considering the fact that there is a very little element of it.
Time -travel is always a complex concept for me. Because I always took time in order to understand the entire plot and feel connected to it while reading. But this one is quite beginners friendly .
You will also find a pinch of emotions floating in the plot. Which is quite rare to be found in these types of book. Author's writing style is engaging and gripping with crispy and fast-paced narration. The story is captivating and it kept me hooked till the end.
Overall, It was a wonderful experience to read this intriguing novel. Cover of the book is decent. At last , I must recommend this book to beginners and if you are interested to read a story based on time -travel.
Decoded by Sheeba Sojanar is a novel with some wonderful dramatic special characters. The novel doles out messages for the society at large. It pinpoints the pain of an autistic child because of whom family fragments and live in constant disagreement. One such highlighted story is of Manju and her family, where her husband is treacherous because of her autistic son Revanth. Keeping everything aside, the lead character is Vidhuna, who has travelled from a different planet to learn some lessons and connect with people of earth. The novel is about her experience of love, lost, hope, redemption, pain and sorrow. She learns it with a few more. But she did not like the planet because of dying morality among the people. The prima facie of the novel is its unveiling the true colours of our societies on sensitive topics like ASD. Effective and impactful narrative of events, you will like it for raw family drama, over anything else.
I read this novel on KDP. Decoded by Sheeba is strong in its essence of carrying the social message for all of us through special characters Vidhuna and Revanth. Both connected well due to autistic similarities, though one was born on earth in the current time, while another one was from a different time zone and other planet. The start of the novel is sci-fi, and it builds the backdrop narrative of the story. The author created two worlds but she focused on issues that break the spine of the family. Vidhuna was like a new born on earth, she came by time travel. Revanth and Rose guide her in the world for her place and learning. Manju and her family was a different story. It was dramatic yet hilarious. I enjoyed the family drama but it was a message for Vidhuna. That forces her to go back in time. The novel’s narrative is subtle even in addressing the toughest of problems that our societies are grappling with. Had a pleasant reading session, I spent a week with the paperback copy.
The novel raises questions about family bonding through thick and thin. The lead character Vidhuna was shocked to find that on earth people were finding reasons to break away from families. The family melodrama was so tumultuous and negative that Vidhuna was keen on returning to her planet sooner than later.
Too much familial length and breadth makes 'Decoded' a serious heavy novel, yet it will have you laughing, crying, and everything in between. Sheeba weaved the story in a different way, right from the cover page to ending line. The prose is clear, narrative is swirled around among many characters and some of them grow and a few die, the timeline of the story was gullible. The variety of the characters was intrigued – they were marked by chaos and deterioration, but they may be sketched in your memory forever.
Some books are a mix of different genres, where the author has successfully amalgamated them and did justice.
This book speaks about human behavior, need, greed and the ultimate demise of humanity in a way.
The protagonist of the book is Vidhuna, who is a smart girl and empathetic. However, she is born in a futuristic world where she doesn't connect with people around.
She is trying to fit in and in her journey, she travels back in time.
This is a book which shows her both the present and the future and the humans.
I felt that human greed and their own needs instead of the collective good and the impatience to not understand others lead to a catastrophe.
Travel with Vidhuna to know what she discovers. Both was eye opener and the plot was well rounded.
We are aware of the term, the grass is always green on the other side. The author of this book gave us a vivid description of the life in both past and present tense in this book.
Vidhuna is a young girl who is a kindred spirit. She cannot talk non verbally, which is the usual way of talking among the inhabitants of her time. By the way, she is from the year 2067.
Frustrated and feeling out of place, she wants to venture into a different world back in time. Thus she reaches 2016. There she meets and understands several people. But what will she choose ?
To stay in 2016 or return back to her timeline ?
A fantastic read. The authors lucid language and vivid description made me in awe of it. This is for all science fiction, mystery and drama fans.
This is a very unique book for its concept and the thought behind it. The main protagonist is Vidhuna who is born in the year 2167, where the human society has evolved.
There is no verbal communication between people and the relationships are different. Vidhuna is only a unique specimen who can communicate verbally.
This is Vidhuna's journey, where she tries to find her place in the world or the other.
This is a highly imaginative book and the language is lucid.
The characters were well penned and somehow, in the quest of Vidhuna, I learnt a lot about humans and their behavioural patterns.
If you were living in a world which has reached the peak of evolution and there was peace and harmony around, would you leave that place?
I wouldn't but the grass is always greener on the other side. Vidhuna wanted to connect with someone who could communicate with her verbally. In her world, all used to communicate non verbally and once she found out that in the year 2016, there was verbal communication, she ventured out to figure it out.
This is her journey back in time, where she learns and unlearns about humans and the several shades they wear.

Have you watched any movies related to time travelling?
This book is a perfect example of that. Only, it's not just adventure or the thrill of time travelling.
It's much more than that.
The author Sheeba did a great job in the characterisation and showcasing the stark differences between both the worlds separated by several years.
There are several interesting characters one finds out as they read the book.
I liked most of them and some are going to stay with me. The lessons I learnt was great. Overall, a good read and fiction and drama lovers must pick this unique book.
Families form the basic unit in a community. The well being and the healthy relationships it caters to leads to a happy society.
This is the story of the protagonist " Vidhuna " where she travels from the year 2167 to 2016 to find out about the actual family relationships, the battered families.
She finds solace and a friend in an autistic child " Revant " who opens her eyes to several things. To non verbally communicate and the beauty of his world.
A heartwarming story and also sends a strong message about acceptance and oneness.
This is a great book where the author has raised several important issues like family and society which are spiralling towards breakdown.
Family is an important element of the society. However, individual requirements has caused hovac and peace leading to broken families.
The author tries to shed a light on this issue through the characters like Vidhuna and Revant - both are different and don't fit into their immediate environments. This is their journey or how Revant guides Vidhuna to find her place.
Revant is an autistic boy. The love, joy and innocence with which they live their life is heartwarming. It takes effort to understand but what one gets in return is beyond comparison.
Revant meets Vidhuna who is not from his world and they soon become friends.
Both Vidhuna and Revant feel that the inhabitants on the earth cannot see beyond their needs or desires. They both want acceptance in their worlds.
Do read the book to find out how they help one another to find about themselves and make a niche in their current worlds.
She turns him into a better and successful person, may be they were in love, as she was able to pick up his silent communication, while his family failed to do so. The story outlines the elephant in the room – autistic spectrum disorder – society doesn’t identify it but labels and ignores it. Not a novel of action and adventure, there’s certain suspense at the turn of family issues, a savouring tensesness in the script that keeps the readers engrossed. The backdrop of the story was realistic, reflecting awareness of lives may be experienced by the author.
Decoded by Sheeba Sojanar is a wonderful novel where two special people i.e. autistic in some ways explore the world and try to get their share of learning by meeting people coming along their ways. Vidhuna is the lead girl, she is lost on earth for her learning, she is way naive to grasp earthly things, especially when caught between two families of Ranjan and Theo. The novel is strong with its thematic content and intriguing characters and mix of sci-fi and contemporary elements. A great good read on paperback copy. I loved it, so do you.
I can only imagine what the world would be if I were born in the year 2167. The author " Sheeba Sojanar " did a fabulous job in this aspect.
She created a futuristic world which made me in awe as well as put me in a fix.
The characters in the book like Revant, John and Vidhuna were very good. I liked the character development and the story in which the author successfully showed the reality of the two different worlds.
