It’s probably a 3.5. Some of the stories and poems were just excerpts and we had to look them up.

It would also be nice if there was more context to some of the stories, such as for the Battle of Little Big Horn or the poem about Calamity Jane. It would also be better if there were more actual cowboy songs, rather than 20th century songs about 19th century cowboys.

It is a good collection — some I hadn’t seen before. We listened to the poems that were songs, which was also fun.

I wish the tales were complete, I would have really loved to see John Henry in a complete story but it is a good intro to western stories. However, that being said John Henry didn't take place out west but in WV, which is an eastern landlocked state. Their were several Native AMerican tales/songs and some old rhymes that I wouldn't want to forget.
