How many spiders can a human body contain?

When a small earthquake hits a cave near the town of Rock Creek, only one person leaves the underground alive. Desperate, she seeks help in the forested rural area, trying to warn the first people she runs into, but nobody heeds her words.

Nobody believes in spiders feeding on an entire group of strong, healthy young men and women. And when the night falls, the spiders exit the cavern, and creep upon the unsuspecting town.

The first warnings come-strange noises coming from inside the walls, movement in the shadows, an increase in spider sightings-and subtle, itchy bites.

By the time the good people of Rock Creek realize it's not an ordinary spider infestation they're facing, they're on the brink of being overrun. Anyone could become the next victim.

The whole town is going to become the next victim, unless they find a way to stop the spiders.

But how does one stop thousands of small hungry creatures... with the big ones lurking in the dark?

This book brought me back to my youth where narratives were straight forward and nighttime UHF channels were littered with sci-fi/horror/disaster movies of hordes of critters taking over the world. This is exactly what "Arachnophobia" is: Bad-ass spiders. The title and basic plot bears some similarities with the 1990 movie of the same name. But that was Disney, this is 2022 and Lucas throws everything at us. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first Lucas book, but I hope it won't be the last. I loved it and actually ended up reading it in one day. Fun, gore, jump scares! My one criticism is that I know more about Irritable Bowel Syndrome than I ever wanted to know, but it is integral to the plot. Enjoy!

Wow, I absolutely loved this book. K.Lucas has done an amazing job with this mesmerising and scary story. I don't think I've read anything quite so quickly wanting to find out what was going to happen. I hate spiders, however the plot was fantastic and the characters are also what makes this such a special story. I even managed to laugh at one stage. I would highly recommend this story, and I can't wait for the next book. 5/5 Stars

I love a good horror story and this one does not disappoint. Its part insect horror, part body horror and all together creepy.

The town of Rock Creek is about to overrun with spiders. The book opens with a group of teens that are getting ready to explore a cave just outside the town. After entering, there is what feels like a slight earthquake. Soon they are surrounded by thousands of tiny spiders. One of the teens, Asia, manages to escape the cave but not before being bitten all over her body. By exiting the cave, she discovers that the spiders do not like light. They thrive in the dark. She starts running and doesn't stop until she reaches an RV with a family living in it. They take her in, and she soon realizes the spiders are living inside her. She is covered in bites and once she starts scratching, they start spilling out of her body, eating her from the inside out.

Unfortunately, she will not be the only victim to befall the spiders. The local exterminator Walter is beyond busy with call after call, which normally would be a good thing, but the calls are just a tad bit odd. People calling about sound within the walls, movement in the attic, spiders spotted all over the town and people mutilating their bodies. One resident even reports a spider bigger than him hiding in his attic. Now the town is facing being overrun with spiders and if they're not stopped, they may just take over another town, then another, etc. What will happen to the people of Rock Creek? Can the spiders be eradicated, or will they spread regardless?

This book was very creepy crawly. I have entomophobia: the fear of bugs. I hate all bugs, including spiders. If I even think I have a bug on me, I freak out. So, to think about hundreds of tiny spiders eating their way through my body is really scary and oh so gross. The character of Walter gave me really strong John Goodman vibes from the movie Arachnophobia. The story is broken up into parts, each one having a different take on what's going on within the town and who its affecting. All in all, it's a great story and if you love body horror with creepy crawlies, then this is the book for you.

“Hundreds of tiny black spiders were crawling all over the floor of the cave, across the roof, and down the walls—coming for her. She was surrounded.”

This is a nightmare inducing creature feature, of the 8 legged variety.

Emerging from Black Hole Cave, spiders of all sizes are on the hunt: for meat & places to nest. As the unwitting humans of Rock Creek fall prey to them, a few try & fight back. There aren’t enough lights to hold back this flood of arachnids though…

An amazing scary story!! The scene with the spiders crawling up the toilet to Hart was so disturbing!! Definitely going to have horrifying dreams after reading this one 🕷️ 💀

Oh and for the love of God please stop bringing poor Boo near the spiders 😭

Thank you to BookSirens & the author for a copy!

I loved how well this book was for a horror thriller with spiders, it had a great plot going on and loved the way it was written. It had me on the edge of my seat about what was going on. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and that they worked in this world. I'm excited to read more from K. Lucas, as I really enjoyed this book.

Why did I read it?

I hate the things, really, really and really. I'm better with the small ones now but our old cottage has a lot of them and all our walls are white so they can be seen immediately for my husband to take outside, he won't kill them, but I swear they come back in. I can say the title but not the name of them because it brings a picture up.
This is a graphic book that leaves nothing to the imagination. It's also one of those horrors that the people make bad judgments, like being brave and not running away in the other direction. I loved it from the first sentence I was addicted. Be prepared to start scratching.

This book terrified me! I already hate spiders….don’t trust em…..don’t like em….ugh.

Why did I read this then? That’s a great question but I LOVED IT!

I was immediately drawn in on this story, it grabbed hold of me and I couldn’t stop until the very end.

If you are looking for a good scare, to be creeped out and scarred for life….this is the book for you!

I highly suggest reading with all the lights on…wink wink. You never know what’s lurking in the dark……🕷️

3.5 stars for sure. The story felt like an old monster story, the way of writing felt a lot like Goosebumps but there was the body gore that did not happen in Goosebumps. It was an easy read, no thinking, no deep meaning. Just entertainment

I would like to thank K. Lucas for an advanced readers copy of Arachnophobia.

A group of teenagers decide to explore a cave just outside of their town. Shortly after they enter the cave, they feel the earth shaking and are terrified. Is this an earthquake? Are they going to be trapped? The teenagers run towards the cave’s entrance. They notice that there are spiders everywhere. Only one of them, Asia, manages to escape and she runs for her life. The others do not survive. The town is being overrun by spiders that prey on humans but despise the light. Asia must find a way to warn everyone before it’s too late. I enjoyed this book very much. K. Lucas has written a spine tingling thriller/horror story that will have you wondering what you would do in such a situation. Although this is a work of fiction, I know that I will be keeping my lights on more often. After all, who really knows what lurks in the dark? I look forward to the author’s next book.

I'm gonna start this review by saying that I hate spiders. I loathe them. I'm disgusted when I look at them, and often get chills too.
Arachnophobia is scary, intense. The kind of story you get immediately sucked into, and you don't want to put down the book.
I promised myself not to read it before going to bed (can't risk falling asleep thinking about spiders, can I?)
Brilliantly written, this was my 3rd K. Lucas book this year and this one right here is one you should read even if you hate spiders like me.

How many spiders can a human body contain?
That's a great first line in a book description.
As I've said previously, creature features aren't my jam, but spiders are real. I seem to prefer horror that could happen in real life.
If you want to feel like you have hundreds of spider legs crawling over your body, inside your body, and infesting your body, this is the book for you.
I do have a qualm though. I know people in horror books are idiots. Characters being dumb are the reason the killer (spiders in this case) aren't stopped.
But

When Asia her boyfriend and his friends decided to go to this out of the way cave they thought it would be cool. Unfortunately it would be the last thing the boys would do Asia would be the only one to get away but by getting away she would leave the spiders to town and although she sounded like a crazy person she did her best to explain to the nice family living in their RV while she was naked and at the door begging for them to put on more lights. The spiders were coming in although three best friends tried to trap the spider they failed Vanessa sun goes down in the humongous spider heads the town they’re all doomed… Unless! This book was so good I couldn’t stop reading it I love horror books NF a humongous spider is it horrific then I don’t know what it is. I almost want to say they may have a book to and if so I am definitely down to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. The chapters or short the action is fast and the story goes along swiftly until it’s Grimm conclusion… Well Grimm depending on who side you’re on. I received this book from Book Sirens but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Horror novels about spiders are appearing with the frequency of power ballads on 80s metal albums. Not that it's a bad thing. I personally dislike spiders (I don't have arachnophobia, just not fond of the little buggers) yet find myself reading just about anything with them in it. Weird, I know. K. Lucas tosses "Arachnophobia" into the ring and it performs rather nicely. She gives us just enough to entertain and intrigue, but leaves some questions unanswered...for now. (A follow up is in the works). It's a solid start that has potential to expand in any number of directions. The writing is crisp and active, the characters believable and relatable. I did find a couple of places where the POV switches back and forth without warning, but it's not enough to dismantle an otherwise good work. I'll be looking forward to where this goes.

NOPE NOPE NOOOOPE!!...And in case you missed it; NOPE!

This book was TERRIFYING. The way the spiders are described, the way they kill, had me scratching all over. I couldn't read this without the lights, and then I finally just decided to read it during the day because I was way too skeeved out to read it at night. There isn't really any character depth, and most of the characters in this story were so annoying (Jewel, Kala, anyone?). So, I took 1 star off because I would have liked to see a little more backstory and involvement with the whole town in general. Overall, I enjoyed the story and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be thoroughly creeped out. I'm definitely going to be reading the 2nd book.

Spiders are nasty. Can’t say I’m a full-blown arachnophobe, but they definitely creep me out.

So when author K. Lucas announced a new book with the tagline, “How many spiders can a human body contain?” my initial thought was, “There’s no way I’m reading that book.”

But read it I did.

Arachnophobia is K. Lucas’ first foray into horror. She didn’t miss. It’s pretty horrific.

There’s plenty of plot synopsis available online, so I’ll spare you that. Suffice it to say the book is about a spider invasion. It’s creepy AF.

This is the third book I’ve read by Lucas, and she keeps delivering (and getting better) with each one.

Compelling characters, with decent development. Good dialog. Well-paced. It’s not a difficult read, unless you count that feeling you get of things crawling under your skin…

I suggest reading it--with the lights on.

As a recovering Arachnophobe, I eat up every giant spider book I can find. There are lots of them out there - some good and some dreadful. This is one of the better ones. Three teenagers stumble into a mysterious and forbidden cave and unwittingly release a horror that defies description. Yup, people are going to die and they won't go peacefully.
This story has all the elements of a great drive-in theater kind of movie. You buy your Coke and popcorn and try not to lose it. Good luck with that. This book is a guilty pleasure and I shamelessly admit to loving it. Give me more.

Meh.

Well - I did complete Arachnophobia. That’s worth a star at least.
But this “creature story” by author K. Lucas is not representative of more than mid to low level fare within this genre.
There’s a plot - & it’s pretty straightforward & unsurprising. Not much about the story is shocking or interesting. Even the title is absolutely unoriginal.
Overall if I could have a do over, I’d give this book a strong pass.
Recommended for those who are 100% passionate regarding spider tales in general. No matter how well or mediocrely written.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

OMG! Just finished “Arachnophobia,”
by K. Lucas and boy was it so good. I couldnt put it down and believe me, you don’t want to be reading about a massive infestation of spiders in the middle of the night in the dark. That’s when I woke up thinking about this book and wanting to finish it before work. Needless to say, I had to turn on all the lights and now I’m scratching all over. Enjoy if you dare!

How many spiders can a human body contain? This question (from the summary) truly sums up this story. This was an incredibly fun read with a great monster.

Pros:
+ the monster(s) are great
+ descriptions of the self mutilation and terror are well done

Cons:
- left me wanting more from the characters
- read like a series of vignettes (paraphrased from my partner: each person you meet is just cannon fodder for the monsters)

Not for the faint of heart! Can be a little graphic at times. Well-paced, well developed characters. Just when you think you have escaped, it draws you back in again with a vengeance! Can be easily read in a single sitting. So tuck your pants into your socks, buckle up, turn the lights on in the entire house and get reading!

What a fun little romp this was. Very well written to keep your attention throughout. The action starts immediately and barely lets up to allow the reader to take a breath. No sugar coating it, this is straight up horror with plenty of gross out ewww moments and I loved it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the tale.

Great read for me. It was like watching a horror show of years past. Clear writing and easy to follow. I could not stop reading it. It is not for the faint or weak hearted. If you are scared of spiders and who isn't even if just a little bit, it will scare the "bejesus" out of you. There are a lot of 🕷 s , big ones, little ones and in between ones. All are dangerous. 5 stars for me.

This popped up on a Facebook ad. I'm glad I downloaded it. To be honest, I almost stopped after the first chapter because it was pretty campy and I didn't think I'd get into it. I'm so glad I was wrong. All of the characters were relatable, and if you're looking for a fast paced horror novel that ends with a pretty cool twist, this will do it for you!

Fun story.

First a time reading this author. Quick read. Enjoyed the various characters. Decent action with plenty of gore. Good writing and pace. Hope to read more of her books. Kind of left hanging with Rafe. Don't feel like the book ended well. Maybe we'll get a sequel. I would recommend this one. Enjoy!

For me it was okay. I didn't like the ending much, but I don't care for books that leave you in the air. It was well written, it might creep people who have a fear of spiders out, but I didn't connect with the characters enough to care about them.
