This is a picture book version of an Australian folk song. For the tune see Rolf Harris singing it.

Charlotte Lance's illustrations didn't do much for me. My vision of what "Click Go the Shears" looks like is Tom Roberts' Shearing the Rams which was painted around the time that this folk song was developed in 1890. Given this, the highly stylised illustrations didn't sit well with me.

The humour of a shearing shed being a salon for sheep was done better by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley in Pete the Sheep-Sheep, and I couldn't help thinking the illustrator was influenced by their earlier work.
