It was four years ago that Dougal Drummond set out to find Fair Ellen of the Isles, a legendary maiden supposedly being held against her will by her father in a tower on an island. He shipwrecked on Askaval and ended his quest there after finding his true love in that place. Now his cousin Will Mackinnon finds himself stranded because of a fierce storm on a remote, seemingly unoccupied island with a tower. Who do you suppose he found living in that tower, pointing a pistol right at him? Oh, it should be noted that Will derided his cousin Dougal something fierce for chasing after a fairy tale.
I believed unequivocally that the legend of Fair Ellen was indeed a myth when reading about Dougal’s quest in The Highlander’s Christmas Quest. How ironic that it’s Will who finds her, the one man who wasn’t even looking for her let alone believe she existed. Ellen turned out to be a formidable woman as she was reluctant to give him shelter from the storm, which persisted over several days. During that time, Will got to know a fascinating and intelligent mind behind the beautiful face and Ellen interacts with a man who has no interest in being the white knight who rescues her from the tower. These two couldn’t be better suited and their growing affection for each other was heartwarming.
This is an unconventional fairy tale and Ellen’s reluctance to be rescued is based on some valid considerations. As their feelings deepen, it becomes abundantly clear that Will has no intention of leaving the island without her. Their journey from strangers to lovers made for a great reading experience. This was a lovely way to end the series, one I’ve adored. From the Scottish settings, to the brawny Lairds and the high spirited women who married them, these stories have captured my imagination and catapulted me to mystical bygone eras. They put me in a happy place.

When Will Mackinnon, the heir to Achnasheen is caught in a storm and takes shelter on a seemingly deserted isle, he is shocked to find a well-built tower. He can tell the dwelling is occupied, but when no one answers and the door is locked, Will gains entry by climbing the walls and entering a window. There his shock is magnified when he finds himself face to face with a pistol and even more shocked when he realizes the pistol-wielding beauty is none other than a woman he believed to be a myth – Fair Ellen of the Isles.
If Will was surprised to find Ellen, it was nothing compared to the shock she felt when the handsome highlanders climbed in her window! Normally she is not alone, but due to the storm, her maid and guards were not able to return from her father’s castle at Inchgallen, across the channel. Ellen Cameron has lived on the Isle of Bortha for ten years, banished by her father for the offense of being lame. Over the years Ellen has created a life for herself, researching and writing stories of the Highlands and even though several men have tried to “save” her, Ellen believes she will live out her days alone in her tower.
Ellen demands that Will leave, but he turns on the charm and convinces her to let him stay until the storm passes, he swears he means her no harm and finally Ellen grudgingly agrees to let him stay. The storm rages for days and during that time, Will learns that Ellen is far more than a pretty face and begins to fall in love with the brave, intelligent woman. For her part, Ellen is falling for Will but knows nothing can come of it and that he will be leaving as soon as the storm ends, but she can’t ignore the desire she feels for him and welcomes his kisses and caresses, thinking it will be her only chance in life to experience passion.
By the time the storm ended, Will knows that Ellen is the love of his life and the only woman he wants for his wife, but convincing her that her lameness doesn’t matter will be harder than he thought and may call for extreme action. Will he be able to convince her to leave Bortha or will her insecurity cost her the love of a lifetime?
This was a delightful, well-written, fast-paced story with wonderful characters, steamy love scenes, and a lovely HEA. This is the ninth book in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone title with no problems.

Anna Campbell is a master at putting sizzle into sensual and this one is a beauty, what more could you want in a Scottish historical than a brawny, strapping highlander in a kilt who finds himself washed up on an island with a legend of the highlands none other than the Fair Ellen, this is a page turner of a story, it is hot and steamy and filled with emotion as Will Mackinnon loses his heart in such a glorious way to the beautiful Fair Ellen, this one left me sighing and cheering them on, I do hope that you will pick it up and enjoy it as much as I did.
Will is sailing to his cousin’s island for a visit when a storm from nowhere throws him off course and onto an island with a single tower on it, he needs shelter and knocking on the locked door is no help so he climbs his way into the tower only to be met by a most beautiful woman but she is aiming a gun at him and telling him to leave, there is an instant attraction to her and a lot of talking finally gets him a temporary roof over his head and some food, but it is not long before he is falling for Ellen Cameron in the most sensual way.
Ellen Cameron has been locked up on Bortha for ten years by her father, for being cursed with a limp she has never known love from anyone and has always accepted her life because of the treatment by her father, but when a gorgeous highlander lands in her tower it is not long before she wants more, he accepts her as she is and they get on famously but she still wants to learn more because this life on Bortha is all she will ever know and Will opens up a very sensual side of life, but escape is not for her, or is it?
The storm keeps them together for a few days, days that are spent talking and sharing and learning and Will is determined to make Ellen his forever not just while he is here, the weather breaks and Will gets his way and whisks his beautiful Ellen away, away to a new life of love and happiness in the highlands I loved seeing Ellen already strong, have the courage to love as she did and Will is such a gorgeous hero. This is a beautifully written story, Anna Campbell never disappointments me with her stories her characters are easy to love and I find myself falling into the stories and feeling a part of them and this is one that I highly recommend, I loved it so much.

Enjoyable story, but didn't light my fire. I think it was because there was no real danger or drama to it. Not my favourite of the series. 4☆

Used to solitude and captivity, Ellen is shocked when during a seriously and storm Will McKinnon lands on the island . What starts as a stand off becomes a passionate battle for love! Anna is the mistress of sensual but captivating tales that draw you in and make you believe in the perfect soul mate . Always a one click author for me and this book only cemented that!

The Highlander’s Rescued Maiden, by Anna Campbell. Yes! Yes! And yes! I absolutely love. Love. Love this book. Anna did an amazing job with creating a love story that has her readers falling for the Scottish Highlands. My experience while reading this book was part seductively sinful. Part enchanted by the love that over flows between Ellen and Will.
And the other part, very satisfied that I had the opportunity to read this candid book. I instantly fell head over hills for Will’s character. The man could melt the North Pole if he wanted to with the sweet and seductive words he laid at Ellen’s feet. Ellen definitely met her match when he climbed through her Window. I was glad to read Ellen’s character as a strong female.
Yeah she had some things that she felt held her back, but that didn’t stop her determination of going after what she wanted. I enjoyed the steamy love games that Ellen and Will played. I was glad to read that the writer provided the book with details and extended these elicit scenes across a number of pages. The descriptions of the scenes played well with my imagination. Clearly Will was a very “randy” man.
Girls, he was a over heated Highlander running like the energizer bunny chasing after Ellen in that tower. Thank you very much for that Anna. I had a Fantabulous time reading this book. I enjoyed the entertainment. The drama was light, but it helped pushed the story along.
I was swooning with envy by the end of the story. The book reads at a fast pace, with no dull moments at all. The writer did a great job with the Scottish brogue and the terms of endearments. These few things made the book all the more real for me. Until next time my fellow readers... read on!

Will MacKinnon of Achnasheen had been blown off-course in a storm in the outer Hebrides. He was blown onto a small island with what he thought was an abandoned tower. He worked his way up and went in through a window and landed in a room with a beautiful woman holding a pistol on him. Needless to say, my attention was thoroughly engaged by this point. How I love reading Anna Campbell’s books. She is always able to garner my attention early on and keep it until the very last word is read in her books. The Highlander’s Rescued Maiden is a very entertaining tale. Will is a handsome young man. Ellen initially doesn’t want anything to do with Will and tells him he has to leave. Her maid’s bad toothache prompted the usual men at arms to take the maid to Inchgallen. Will is not able to leave for several days as the storm doesn’t abate. The two of them get to know more about one another. Will is dismayed to learn that Ellen’s father, the Laird of Inchgallen, has exiled her to the old tower on the unpopulated island as he and his second wife and stepdaughters were embarrassed by Ellen’s lameness and thought it would deter any potential suitors. Will is attracted to Ellen and her beauty, and her lameness doesn’t bother him at all. The attraction grows between them. I loved the author’s prose leading up to their first kiss. And the description of the kiss, aah, it made me tingly! Will knew he would have to leave the island before Ellen’s guards returned, but he was not going to leave without Ellen. He loved her. She told him that he couldn’t saddle himself with a cripple, but Will’s love prevailed. Their story was so touching. His cousin Dougal and his wife Kirsty accepted Ellen as did Will’s parents Callum and Mairi. What a lovely addition to the series. I was so fortunate to receive a gift copy of this work and highly recommend it, with a 4-4 ½ star rating and 4-star heat level. A joy to read!

This delightful adventure has William Mackinnon going out in his boat for the day. Caught up in a raging gale, his boat is blown off course. Spotting a small island, Will struggles to reach its shore. Pulling his boat up the shore, Will looks for shelter. He sees nothing but a couple of tumbledown shanties and a lone tower. He finds the tower locked but, undaunted, he scales the wall and enters through a window.
What follows is one of the most beautiful love stories you will ever read. It's an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish

Puh...die Geschichte ist ja nett und der Ansatz ist gut, aber hey, ein Typ der such beim Küssen einer Frau als Held fühlt, weil er sie nicht gleich auch noch flachlegt...yeah...ich fürchte ich kann solche Bücher nicht mehr so gut lesen wie früher.

William and Ellen’s attraction is engaging from the first. Will’s countless attempts to disarm and win over Ellen are endearing and cheeky. I enjoyed their banter.
I highly recommend this book. I recommend this series.

In the end the legend of Fair Ellen of the isles is true...and Will MacKinnon owes his cousin Dougal an apology for not believing him a few years back when he set out sail to find and rescue her!
Due to a storm, Will’s boat reaches a seemingly deserted island which is however inhabited by just one person: the legendary and very real Ellen Cameron.
After a few days of sharing her prison tower, Will is determined to take her away with him and end her captivity... but Ellen must overcome her insecurities and believe in herself and in the love that has blossomed in such a short time between them.
This is another page turner, sweet ( but also steamy) read full of emotions that can only come out from the pen of Anna Campbell!

A great read!
I really enjoyed Will and Ellen's story. It was really cute on how they met, A major storm blew him off course and he ended up on her island. She went from almost shooting him to becoming his wife after he rescued from her tower in which she was a prisoner. A very HEA. I highly recommend this book! 👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤

Great stories
This was the ninth story in the 'Lairds Most Likely'. Having now read all 9 stories about the Mackinnons, Mactavish, Drummonds and Douglasses, I can say that each story was enjoyable and I wasn't able to stop until I read all 9, they were that good.

What a gorgeous story!!
This beautiful tale was hot hot hot, with a love rich and grand. And seriously, can I please have my own stone tower… with a hot-blooded hero, a crackling fire and plenty of warm, comfy blankets while a storm rages outside?!
This beautiful tale was hot hot hot, with a love rich and grand. And seriously, can I please have my own stone tower… with a hot-blooded hero, a crackling fire and plenty of warm, comfy blankets while a storm rages outside?!

This book’s hero is Will son of Callum and Mairi Mackinnon from The Highlander’s Defiant Captive, book 4. He is sailing and is caught as goes off course in a very bad storm in Outer Hebrides on the Isle of Bortha. He can see the isle is deserted and see’s a tower and imagines it is empty too. Still he needs a place to dry off and take cover until the storm passes. Will knocks on the tower door and nobody answers - it is locked so he breaks in. He is shocked when he comes face to face with the most beautiful golden haired Lass holding a pistol which is pointed at him! He see’s right away she is lame and see how she does not trust men at all.
Somehow Will does convince Ellen he won’t harm her, he realizes she is a story his romantic cousin Dougall fantasized about and tried to discover. It was way how he met his wife Kristy 4 years ago on a different isle. The Highlander’s Christmas Quest, Book 5. Will had told Dougall it was a silly made up legend that he thought was just a fairy tale. Yet he realizes he has found Ellen of the isles and some of the highland legend was all very true. Just most was this rejected beauties nightmare than a beautiful fairytale with a happily ever after ending! It was obvious this woman was a prisoner and forced to live here alone by people who should have loved and protected her! This made Will angry on so many levels!
Ellen Cameron was banished to this tower ten years ago by her heartless Godly father. He feels she his own daughter is a curse from God, as her mother died giving birth to her and someone pulled her leg out of her mother’s womb which crippled her. Now her father remarried and his new wife complained about her who has two daughters close in age. It was due to jealousy and competition as Ellen has the face of an angel with a body the match. Yet her father does have some guilt as she has all the luxuries of home with a maid and six elderly guards. As they won’t allow young handsome guards in case they fall under her spell as her father fears she should never marry due to her lame leg, So she is a prisoner on this isle forever.
Now Will also falls under her spell and he feels a limping leg is no big deal. As he gets to know her he realizes he is shocked a parent would exile his own child for a birth defect. Will had a very loving and supportive family so he is shocked and would like to kick Ellen’s Papa in the teeth. He realized besides being the bonniest woman he has ever met, she is smart, kind and intelligent but has not trust of men! He does understand that and starts knocking down her defensive walls and she opens up and quickly they both fall in love.
Even though some storms can last they both hope this will last forever as her guards and maid is on her fathers island. Yet once the weather breaks they will return, plus they will kill Will if they find a young handsome man sniffing around. Yet all Will wants to do is to rescue Ellen, but she fears it’s more out of pity something she hates more than anything! Plus she has seen how she was treated on her fathers own island, remembering the whispers, hair pulling and pinching and she is the Lairds daughter! She fears what people would think of her at Achnasheen in Will’s clan, as she feels she will never be his equal.
When the weather clears for smooth sailing will her guards catch and harm will? Can Will convince Ellen to leave with him and discover a life of freedom and love? Shall Ellen just live with the memories of Will forever and spend the rest of her life a prisoner in this empty tower? Read and find out.
This is sadly the ninth and last book in this wonderful The Lairds Most Likely series. I have enjoyed each and every book in this series and do hope Anna Campbell returns to Scottish historical romance soon. I really loved this story plus I loved this was Collum and Mairi’s first born son and for obvious reasons too. Each book I have enjoyed so much but I really loved Will and Ellen’s story. This can be read as a stand alone book even if you haven’t read the other books in the series. A riveting book from start to finish that I highly recommend.

She was more than just a Fair Maiden...
I absolutely loved this instalment of The Lairds Most Likely series, and I might even go so far as to say that The Highlander's Rescued Maiden is my favourite. The characters were lovable, the storyline captivating, and the love between the main characters developed, though quickly, completely believable.
What made this storyline even better is that the heroine surpassed my expectations. Fair Ellen did not need saving. Sure, the circumstances of how and why she was living alone on an island were horrific and deplorable, she made the most of the circumstances by keeping active both mind and body. Ellen has learnt to protect herself physically and mentally and does not takes fools lightly. Waffling on about her good looks will not win her favour, you must prove your worth by looking beyond her beauty. It just so happens that William sees nothing but beauty ... even with a gun pointing in his face.
This is not just a fairytale romance, it is so much more. This is a story about not judging a person solely on their looks. It's also about learning to trust those around you not judging you based solely on your looks. My favourite part of the whole story is that Ellen is a writer and has made a career despite her sex. It also became my favourite part because Will admired Ellen so much more for her skill. Will is a good man and Ellen is a good woman, I loved that they matched each other equally in goodness.
Sorry, I feel like this was a very waffly kind of review. Let me just say that I was completely engaged in this story and I loved every minute of their journey to love. There were times where Ellen's history brought a tear to my eye and my anger at her father knew no bounds, but those times just enhanced my enjoyment.
If you're looking for a great Highland romance that mucks with your emotions and leaves you smiling like a loon, then I highly recommen The Highlander's Rescued Maiden. I also recommend giving this series a try, you could read them out of order but I think it would be better to start at the very beginning... a very good place to start.

We finally get to know the real Fair Ellen of the Isles!! I absolutely loved Will Mackinnon, a brawny, gorgeous, honorable hero who isn't afraid of committing his heart and life to a woman. He is not haunted by childhood tragedy or has not had his heartbroken by a woman. That is one of the many reasons I love this Highlander Series by Anna. Will is witty, kind, and honest. He loves his family and would lay down his life for any one of them. He has never truly been in love until he climbs the tower and beholds Fair Ellen of the Isles. He knew almost instantly that she is the one for him, now he just has to convince Ellen.
Ellen has been a prisoner on a deserted isle in her tower for more than half of her life. She has all the comforts expected of the daughter of the Laird except her freedom. She knows that her father will never let her leave the tower and she has guards to keep her from escaping. I don't like to give spoilers in my reviews but there is a reason why she feels she belongs there and is resigned to her fate. Will Mackinnon is a force that she has never counted on.
Every installment of this series is one that you will want to read again and again. Anna's writing is on a level that few writers can ever achieve. I have cried tears of joy, laughed out loud, and just enjoyed every minute of losing myself in the world that she creates for her legions of fans. I anxiously await the next book in the series.
In this crazy world of a Global Pandemic or just everyday stresses, you can take a staycation and enter the world of Anna's love stories and hunky highlanders. I highly recommend her books.

Sweet, cute read. Makes me want to read the rest of the series, this was quick and funny. MMC was lovable and I believed the far fetched love story here.
