Leopard People #13

Leopard's Scar

Rate this book
The moment Meiling sees Gedeon she knows he's a leopard shifter-just as she knows she can't trust him. Meiling doesn't take chances, life has taught her better than that. So why does she find herself rescuing this deadly, gorgeous man, when she knows she'd be better off leaving him to die?

Gedeon is used to women throwing themselves at him, not throwing his injured body over their beautiful, deceptively strong shoulders and carrying him to safety. He might be embarrassed, if he wasn't so aroused by the very thought of this feisty lotus blossom.

As they strike up a working relationship that suits them both, Gedeon starts to rely on Meiling for just about everything. But when her hidden nature rises to the surface, the connection that links them shifts into an all-consuming desire. And neither will escape unmarked. . . .

Christine Feehan returns with another thrilling book in the paranormal romance Leopard series. Meiling knows Gedeon is a leopard shifter as soon as she sees him. She knows she can’t trust a male shifter, but she still rescues him. Gedeon is used to women coming to him, but not carrying him to safety. As they get to know one another, they establish a working relationship, but there’s evil around them. Will they survive?

As always, Feehan does an incredible job of bringing the main characters to life. Meiling is intelligent, kind, witty, strong, confident, independent, loyal, fearless, and charming. Gedeon is fast, strong, dangerous, confident, loves the hunt, and he’s feared by many. There words, actions, reactions, thoughts, and mannerisms help readers gain even more clues about their personalities. Both had tragic and frightening childhoods and action-oriented careers. Each goes through a transformation as the story progresses. It was also great to reconnect with characters from previous books. This gave the series continuity and I enjoyed visited with old friends.

This novel takes readers on a journey. Scenes from the jungle in Venezuela, New Orleans, San Antonio, and Russia are well done. The world-building was great with the jungle as well as Gedeon’s house and the nearby swamp being especially vivid.

The story grabbed my attention immediately and didn’t let up as I rapidly turned the pages. The deeply involved and multi-layered plot has some unpredictable moments that add suspense and danger. The author balances the violent aspects of the novel with the intrigue, romance, work relationships, and the jobs they accept. This action-packed novel features cruelty, power, death, greed, jealousy, betrayal, friendship, romance, working relationships, and much more. Several spicy and steamy scenes are also included.

Overall, this action-packed romantic suspense has great characterization, several spicy and sizzling scenes, and plenty of action. Those who enjoy steamy and action-packed paranormal romantic suspense novels with compelling characters will likely enjoy this book. I have read more than seventy books by this author across multiple series. This one has the right mix of romance, tension, action, and thrilling storyline. I’m looking forward to reading my next book by this author.

Berkley Publishing Group and Christine Feehan provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. Publication date is currently set for November 29, 2022.

Don’t care if it’s technicality or not but he DID CHEAT! After that scene she walked in on she forgave him after. I didn’t find her strong but weak to just let all his whoring ways go. He was not redeemable for him. This series is definitely not safe for people who want to know.

First Impressions
I have to say that when I saw this title on the Netgalley catalog, I was so thrilled and so captivated by the COVER! Of course, I adore this series and it’s one of my favorites from this author, but I knew this one would be an amazing read and I can safely say that I absolutely ADORED this title in every single way. And definitely hits some of my top favorites of the series. This story was highly intense and it really keeps the reader on the edge of their seat all the way. This one will contain some difficult themes and there is a big one that will push the limits of some readers, and even though it did detract lightly from my overall enjoyment, I still loved this book deeply and Christine Feehan handled it very well. We also get to see this book take place in locales all over the world and get some diverse characters and that is always a plus. I dearly adored the way in which this author implemented the story and grew the relationship. This is NOT an instant love type of story, this has much more depth and growth than I ever expected, but Christine Feehan delivers on all counts with this one!

Summary
The gist of the story is that Meiling, is searching for her found family sister who has gone missing in the jungle of South America, and she is determined to find her. But then she discovers her sister and is dead and Meiling is determined to get to the bottom of her death which leads her to an encampment, and through a course of events she finds herself saving the life of a Leopard Shifter, Gedeon. They decide to make a go of a partnership together, in rescuing innocents and bringing criminals to justice. After spending time together for six months, it’s evident that there is much more happening in their relationship that is subconscious but neither of them has acted on what they feel for each other. Gedeon has had to use sex to calm his beast, and even though Meiling has very unique talents in calming his leopard, he still has a fierce need, and unfortunately caving to the need meant hurting the one woman he wishes he could make the final connection with. Tensions build between them and it will take a catalyst to bring these two beings together in the ultimate mating, but will Gedeon be able to rebuild trust and prove to Meiling he is there for good and will stay true to her this time?

What I Loved
There were so many aspects to the story here that really worked out for me. I absolutely adored “Leopard’s Scar” and I really enjoyed how this one was written. One of the more unique aspects is that this isn’t an instant love connection. The romance is built over a span of a year, so I really enjoyed that. Most romance authors don’t write longer span periods of a romance happening. What results in this is a solid partnership, seeing Meiling and Gedeon being able to work together as a team before more happens between them. Although there is always the undercurrent of sexual attraction. Their relationship takes a twist with the decisions that Gedeon makes which result in hurting Meiling. But when one of their jobs turns them to Louisianna and the Leopards there, unresolved issues come to the surface. We get to see some of our favorite characters such as Drake, Jake, Tumur, and Alonzo. It was such a fun time getting back to these characters, and seeing them with their mates and families. It was really interesting to see how the romance was built here. I loved the build of the emotion and the sexual tension throughout the story and the climax of the story was one of the best that I have seen in this series. It was so EPIC and so well done. And when Gedeon finally gets his act together, it brings together one of the most captivating and endearing scenes I have ever seen from this author. I was so easily caught up in the intense moment between them, and seeing him finally fight for his “woman” was truly monumental. I enjoyed the grovel, because there was such sincerity within it and I was fine with it not being super dragged out. Grovel’s don’t need to be dragged out, they just need to have honest sincerity and that happened in spades within this story. I also really liked how the danger and suspense plotlines were grown through the story and the way everything comes together.

What I Struggled With
So there is one major aspect to this story that I struggled with and I detract half a star for, and I will be getting into spoilers here, but there is cheating of sorts in this one. Now the cheating happens before they are official together and mated. So its before, but there is an attraction between them so it does happen in the midst of something more occurring between them. So this will really push the boundaries of some readers. Christine Feehan handles this element super well and it did work for me. I did appreciate in the way it was written.

Overall View
I found Leopard’s Scar to be an intense growth of characterizations, plotlines of drama and thrilling edges built up just right, and a sensual affaire of the heart that is determined to push the boundaries in such a way to cultivate the heart of the romance and endearing emotion! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

This starts off so good. I love their chemistry and was looking forward to at least one good book in this series after the last 7 disasters. But so was wrong. I don’t know what’s wrong with Christine but in the last few years she’s lost that love and loyalty that exists between her characters. Gideon was nothing but a sex addict and the nerve of him to put up this partnership to protect himself against a genuinely good relationship is terrible. I lost all respect when he was doing all this whining about his leopard having so much power over him but he fought against it to sleep with other women right in front of her.

If I was her I would have dipped right then and there. But no she stuck with it and let him cheat in her face for the longest time. I feel like so many of her books are just pornos now and there’s no love, empathy and loyalty to be had. I don’t care if they weren’t together yet. He knew it would hurt her but he still did it. What happened love that shines in the carpathian series? Or Ghostwalker? Phantom Game clearly show she can make beautiful soulmate stories. But this series has fallen apart and makes the love feel cheap. Even the recent carpathian books feel boring and there’s no much chemistry between hero and heroine.

I held out so much hope for this book but again I was disappointed. I’ll just wait on the next ghost walker series and hope she switches back to the great writer she is.

The Leopards are back! It was awesome being immersed into the exciting leopard world again and the couple at the center, Meiling Chang and Gedeon Voslov are wonderful together.

Both characters are emotionally scarred by tragic childhoods, developed as loners, and are resistance to trusting others. Their slow burn dance was offset by high action that was dark, violent, and in a world that is often a brutal place for women and children.

I loved that it was Meiling who rescued Gedeon after a botched rescue mission. Their work partnership as hunter/investigator would deepen into friendship because they are so damaged that initially, neither can comprehend open communication or allowing vulnerability. It was good to see them open their minds and hearts beyond learned pain and anguish.

i finished a book! i can't believe it! after starting 200 books, i finally finished one.. every book out there had some shit that made me stop. i think I'm getting old. the whole new adult/love triangle/academy/reverse harem/cheating shtick makes me roll my eyes.

Anyways, this book is good. Feehan is good so i knew what i was getting into.
It's not a 5 stars read because of one scene that i feel was unnecessary (some might consider it cheating..) and because i also would've really liked if the h or H got hurt or in real danger, to see the other one going berserk.. that's a personal preference tho.

good read and thank you Christine Feehan for giving me a book that didn't make me quit at 20%

Meiling and Gedeon are both in the woods trying to save some kidnapped women and girls but they were too late. When a bomb goes off and Gedeon gets hurt, Meiling was the one saved him and that helped him recover from his injuries. She did this knowing that Gedeon might kill her after he recovered which just made Gedeon more interested in her. The fact that Gedeon's leopard doesn't want to tear her apart like he does most others he's around, just proves to be another thing that attracts her to him. Her personality and fierceness and the fact that she doesn't seem scared of him and actually makes him laugh is something he never expected.

She was surprised when he offers her a job as his partner. Even knowing that he was a killer and a very dangerous man she decided to take the job on a trial basis to see of they could work together. Gedeon having feelings for her, wanted to keep her close because he felt that she might be his mate but he didn't act on it because she didn't seem like she felt the same way about him. They work as investigators trying to find people who are missing and they work really well together.

Meiling and Gedeon are both leopard shifters and while Gedeon's leopard is a killer and he has to fight all the time to keep the animal caged inside himself, Meiling's leopard hasn't emerged yet. She's not sure it ever will. But after a while Meiling can start to feel her leopard beginning to emerge for the very first time and her leopard needs to find a mate. The urge to mate is overwhelming, she would go to Gedeon but he and his leopard are dangerous and she doesn't think that he would ever be faithful to her because he's been with so many women. But she doesn't know that Gedeon has feelings for her and would actually never cheat on her so she doesn't tell him when her leopard starts to emerge. But Gedeon's leopard who is a little crazy and is always wanting to kill people even the women he's with, starts acting even crazier not letting Gedeon sleep, putting him in a really bad situation to where Gedeon thinks he might need to put himself and his animal down just to save the people around him. He doesn't realize that his leopard is probably reacting to the fact that Meiling's leopard is emerging.

Once Meiling can't stop the overwhelming urge to mate and goes to find someone, Gedeon's friends let him know what she's up to and he comes to her rescue. He doesn't want to her mate with anyone but him but he'll have to be very careful in the way he lets her know this. She doesn't realize he has feelings for her and he isn't sure she'll trust him so it takes a little while before they actually get together.

Gedeon and Meiling are both leopard shifters but people have been after both of them for a long time trying to kill them because they're special kinds of leopard shifters. The people after them want these kinds of shifters to all be exterminated. Both of them lost their families to the people who are after them now, so that's something they have in common. They are both really strong, smart and cunning so once they go after the bad guys, I almost felt bad for them...almost.

I enjoyed this book because there was so much story, action and a fun romance. But I found myself a little bored at times which is the only reason this isn't getting 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Strength with vulnerability! Great romance!

Gedeon and Meiling are the perfect balance of individual strengths, intelligence, and vulnerabilities that bring them together but also drive the internal conflicts keeping them apart until the desire, revelations, and emotions they discover push them over the edge and they work to figure out how it all fits together. Love this journey with all its twists!

All balanced with External conflicts that also keep the pages turning in suspense, fed by the world they belong to, the partnership they form, those they help and hunt. We learn more about them and leopard lore as they connect with other favorite leopards and danger closes in. Those who hunt her, despise her existence and how she could threaten their power target her through others. This powerful duo becomes determined to remove the threats to her and others permanently. The hunters become the hunted! Love karma being delivered leopard style!

An exciting adventure with one of my favorite couples to date, I throughly enjoyed getting to know Gedeon and Meiling. A story of romance, humor, action, emotion on all scales, discovery and growth as individuals and a couple as they weave themselves into the threads of the series. Great story and I can't wait to see what comes next!

It was really hard to not like Meiling from the start, however Gedeon was a different story. It took me most of the book to even be able to tolerate him. I did find it really funny that at the beginning of the story Meiling had to save Gedeon and then he was dependent on her for a while. What really made it hard for me to stomach Gedeon was how he treated Meiling. He knew she was special, that she calmed his leopard, yet he screwed any woman around him with Meiling still around or even in his presence, the last time he did it was the worst.

I did like how these 2 went after the "bad" leopards in their world, the ones that were horrible to others of their kind or humans in general.

Feeling very disappointed with Christine Feehan with this one. Over 50% of the story is focused on the H nymphomania with other women. I don't think revealing this is a spoiler. Readers should be warned upfront of the cheating trigger. I wish I had and I could have skipped this one. Not for me. The author can do better. It's also disappointing and sad because of the use of "lotus blossom." She's tainted a sweet and beautiful premise. CF does like to explore some more edgy themes which can be sexy. The majority of the story is a turnoff. I do not believe in the HEA for the H/h. I can't remember when I last wrote a book review...this one made me feel just nope so strongly.

Meiling Chang has moved from place to place knowing she's being hunted but not understanding the reason why. Meiling promised to meet her cousin Libby in Columbia, but when she arrives, she realizes her cousin's been kidnapped by sex traffickers. Finding her cousin dead, she realizes that there are other women being held captive in a jungle camp. Meiling's faster, and stronger than most Leopards but can she defeat 10 men with weapons?

Gedeon Voslov arrives to pick up money for his employee not realizing what he walked into. Enraged he shifts and kills the men in the camp, but not before they kill all the women. Gedeon is injured when a bomb explodes.

What follows is Meiling rescuing Gedeon and getting them both out of the country and to New Orleans to Gedeon's home. As Gedeon heals they get to know each other and Gedeon offers Meiling a job, and partnership as investigator, retriever, and sometimes as rescuer. Their friendship grows as well as their love. But they both are so damaged from lack of love and all types of abuse, it's difficult for them to communicate and understand each other. Mistakes, and bad decisions are made, but this opens the way for them both to become open, vulnerable to each other and they both grow from it, and truly become a mated pair as well as partners.

Meiling is still being hunted but the hunted become the hunter as with her mate they go after the Dragon Throne Clan who want her killed because of what they know about her and lineage.

When it comes to the Leopard People series, this installment was really a hard hitter.
Meiling and Gaedeon have both been nomads their entire lives after their families tragically being hunted down by a particular group who feared the power of their leopards. When they unexpectely meet, they both surprise one another.
This book truly has so many of my favorite tropes. There's morailty chain, there's caretaking, there is a strong heroine, both physically and mentally. This book has amazing chemistry for the couple, and when they FINALLY get together physically, its beautiful.
I'm a huge Feehan fan. This one was a tough one, so please check your triggers. This one deals with human trafficking and other intense subjects.

I don't know what the heck has happened to Christine Feehan. I used to love her books, but lately she's getting darker and darker... Not to mention having the Hero cheating on the FMC in the book. And yes, Gideon does in fact cheat in this book. Not once, but multiple times. Then there was the time she literally walked in on him screwing another woman and FORGAVE HIM FOR IT. Nope. I almost stopped reading there, but managed to keep on going until the end of the book... Feehan might claim these two got their HEA but I'd have gutted his ass half way through the book and been done with him... Leopard or not.

A reluctant ⭐⭐⭐

I have said more than once I am a massive fan of Christine Feehan and her books have ALWAYS been 5 star reads, however this is the second book this year I have rated 3 stars and they have both been the latest books in a well established, long running series (other book rated 3 stars was Ghostly Game from her Ghost Walkers series). I can normally finish one of Christine's books in just over one day. This took me four days as I struggled so hard to get through it for numerous reasons.

1 - Why bring in an MMC that has had no mention or bearing in the previous books. There are plenty of other male characters from this series waiting for their own book.

2 - Gedeon says he would never take advantage of Meiling, however for the whole book, that is exactly what he did. From the time she rescued him he suspected she was a leopard and he even suspected what leopard family she was from so he offers her a working partnership. Her gifts are similar to his so would help him more with cases. It was also good for him as she kept his leopard calm, so working with her meant he could keep her close at all times. He had her move in with him and he would constantly call her to his room when his leopard was acting up, which was regularly.

3 - As far as Meiling was concerned, she didn't have a leopard. Because of this, Gedeon never made any effort to have a romantic relationship with her, stating it would ruin their working relationship. This left him free to f**K other women (up to 3 women at a time as he couldn't be sated) when his leopard was really pushing him, which again was regularly. Technically he didn't cheat as they were not in a romantic relationship but.....with how she kept his leopard calm and was harder to sate than usual, that was a MASSIVE hint that Meiling was his.

4 - Meiling's leopard eventually starts to rise (on the night she finds Gedeon in his room with another woman. this was a place which they both deemed "their space" so was really upsetting). When her leopard's heat starts, she goes to a club and Gedeon is jealous of all the men wanting to touch her and be near her so sends her home, stating to his right hand man Rene, that he had suspected for a while that she was his mate. If you suspected she was your mate you should have kept your 🍆 away from other women and actually made an effort with her!!!

5 - In all the previous books in the series, the MMC's have always made it clear to the FMC's that they don't just want them for their leopard. They want them because of who they are. Gedeon tells Meiling the same thing, but not until after her leopard rises and he claims her. If he didn't just want her for her leopard, he wouldn't have spent the past year they spent with each other, f**king every other woman but her. Isn't it convenient, that only when her leopard rises, does he take action and tell her she means everything to him 😡😡😡.

Overall I still enjoyed the book. Finding out Gedeon and Meiling have abilities that other characters in the previous books don't, is why it is still 3 stars (considering I almost DNF'd). Gedeon's attitude/reactions and words with Meiling totally contradicted the attitude/reactions and words of the MMC's before him. None of them would have looked at or touched another woman if they even suspected the FMC was their mate.

Christine's next book in this series is coming out soon. If it continues in the vein of this one and the most recent Ghost Walker book I will need to consider whether or not I continue to buy her books, especially considering I own either paperback or hardback editions of every book she has written as she has been an auto buy author of mine for a long time now. I have not pre-ordered the next book (which I normally would have). I will be reading it on Kindle first.

(4.5) Guts you right out of the gate in so many ways. I loved Meiling. Gedeon had to work to make me love him, only because of the "necessity" of his many extra curricular activities. Meiling is tiny, compassionate, over steel. Reminded me of a Steel Magnolia :) She is quick and strong, but her shifter has not appeared. She saves Gedeons life and their story begins. They each have a horrific past, Meilings beginning as a young girl and Gedeons as a young boy. Gedeon remembers his past and Meiling does note. Gedeon is about death, Meiling is about peace. Their story is a slow burn and I truly appreciated that. I am not a fan of erotica but cannot resist Christines plots and story telling. I fast forward or flip through those. The fact that we got to see Feyora, Evangaline, Timor and others was a cherry on top. Loved getting to see everyone again. Anyone else think we might have to worry about Feyora after Timors comment? I digress. As Gedeon and Meiling work together finding people and always have the underlying, back story we are treated to heart-wrenching memories of the two and the growth of a beautiful love story. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #Leopardsscar #christinefeehan #berkley #netgalley

Audible Narration was Excellent!!
Leopard's Scar is Outstanding!! If I could give Gedeon and Meiling's story 10 Stars I would. I just loved this couple. They are both bad ass, kick butt and they got their revenge on all crime families that tortured and killed their families when they were just babes.

The story is fast paced. With excellent secondary characters. Hot sex but not too much that overwhelmed the storyline.

I personally still have trouble reading about child abuse, rape and murder!! But I must admit Leopards Scar was very well done.

This is not Christine, I refuse to believe it. The writing was horribly disjointed, the storyline chaotic. I just can’t believe this is the author I’ve been reading for years. Yes, I know styles can evolve but the quality I’ve grown used to from her is just not here in this book. I forced myself to finish it but not enthused about what’s coming next if this is any indication of the new standard.

Gedeon cheats on Meiling! That is the only thing I am going to remember about this book. Christine’s couples are (were) always completely devoted to each other from the first look. It does not matter how well written a book is, this is a deal breaker for me.

Leopard's Scar continues the Leopard series, but it can be read as a standalone. For as much as I adore Feehan, I haven't read this series. She releases 1 a year in this series, much like her other series. I love shifter books, so I have no idea why I didn't jump on this sooner!

Meiling is smart and determined. Gedeon is lethal and surly. They need each other and have to work together. This requires a level of trust that isn't easy for either of them. Both struggle with tragic backstories and trauma. But, these two are drawn together like magnets. Its a bit of of a HOT slow burn because these two are wary of everyone else (including each other). What I think I enjoyed most about this book was the action and suspense. The story is nonstop from the first page. There is danger everywhere, and Meiling and Gedeon travel the world.

Fans of paranormal romance will delight in Leopard's Scar for its well built world of shifters, Feehan is phenomenal at world building and this book continues that!

Paranormal at its finest…

This series continues to be one of my favourites. Ever. The combination of action and mystery, of fantastic characters and the love they find – yeah, try one and you will eagerly stay for the others…

Gedeon played the long game. Not that it felt like a game at all. He was invested in Meiling like he’d never been before. She was his match in so many ways and he appreciated everyone similarity and difference. And he showed it. In what he did, what he said and how he treated her like no one before. He was protective and overpowering but she reined him when he needed it, so it never felt off-putting. Instead, it felt like he cared for her. He loved her. And she realized, over the time he gave her, that she returned those feelings. And the journey, well, it was everything… Meiling was resistant, with good reason, yet she (like me) could not hold out forever…

Told in this author’s signature style, it was a fast-paced whirlwind which included some series favourite characters and locations. One of my top reads of this year… ~Diane, 5 stars

Kick butt heroine!

I’ve really enjoyed CF’s recent releases across all her various series. This was no different offering this author’s usual super alpha (at times bordering on alpha-hole) hero in Gedion, but countering this with super competent, kickbutt heroine Meiling who’s his partner in crime. I liked the build of their respect for one another and the friendship they developed before entering a full blown relationship. This was a bit of a slow burn but quite spicy once it got going. I think my one niggling issues with it would be the treatment of Gedion’s sex addiction and the impact (or lack thereof) it had on his relationship with Meiling. I thought that there could have been more nuance in the expectation that Meiling would understand and also in the double standard misogyny of him being able to seek sexual relief here there and everywhere, but Meiling’s sexuality being policed. This was more a “side-eye” issue for me than a full on deal-breaker but it was the only thing that kind of reduced my enjoyment of this book. Other than that, this was a solid 3.5 stars to me. I can’t wait for the next book.

I have read a few of the leopard series that I liked, but this fell short. The story starts out well, and it seemed the our h had spunk. The H does not deserve her though, and continues to hurt her emotionally, even though she saved his life. I don’t care how many excuses he made, she deserved better. I’m past reading where the woman just sticks it out, and suffers. So not for me. I don’t care if he walked barefoot on coals, I would have lost all trust in him. The self absorbed handsome guy that just can’t control his leopard ? Please. 2.5 stars rounded to a three. Try promoting equal respect, and love for your partners because this is so wrong.

Once again I was captivated with this intense action packed storyline. Obviously this is one of my favorite series by Christine Feehan and maybe I'm a bit biased. The build up and growth of the partnership between Meiling and Gedeon was well handled. More than enough spice to heat up the pages after she had to handle his encounters with other woman and her leopard finally making her appearance. Excellent

This may well be my favourite book in the series so far. I loved the fact that the main characters were business partners and that her skills were just as hyped as his. I found this to be a really sweet love story and more two sided than any of the other books in the series. The action was good and I liked the investigation side to their relationship. It is also nice to see characters from previous books.
