Thora’s adventure continues, and the stakes have never been higher. Journeying into the heart of the enemy’s stronghold, she finds herself on a collision course with destiny.
Masks and Majesty is the second novel in the ‘A Conspiracy of Witches’ series.
A Banquet…
The Raven’s Banquet is the most prestigious Conduit event. It occurs once every ten years, but has been moved up by half a decade without warning. If Kieran doesn’t attend, he’ll be branded a traitor and hunted down by the very army he once led. He and Thora have no choice but to answer the call and make their way to Kirkjufell—a breathtaking mountain in Iceland that houses a secret—even if it means walking straight into the waiting hands of their enemy.
A Raven…
Thora knows there’s a darkness in Kieran’s past, but she’s about to learn just how deep that darkness stretches… and discover they have more in common than she realized. Will this drive a wedge between them, or will it finally ignite the spark that unites them?
A Betrayal…
With a new prophecy coming to light and the promise of betrayal hanging heavy in the air, Thora finds herself on a collision course with destiny... and there may be no escaping it this time.

Masks and Majesty is the second novel in the ‘A Conspiracy of Witches’ series. In this we follow Thora once again, on her quest for destiny. With a new prophecy coming to light and the promise of betrayal hanging heavy in the air, both Thora and Keiran travel to a Raven banquet in beautiful Kirkjufell and along the way, they discover more about each other but will this drive a wedge between them, or will it finally ignite the spark that unites them?
N. B. Snook has once again created a masterful take on a witching world. Still very unique in itself, we are diving deeper into a new universe with each chapter. As one who has never travelled, I felt like I was travelling along with Thora and Kieran, as each location was built and explained greatly. We touched more on the 'urban romance' side of things this time, with more focus being on a slow burning relationship that as a reader, I couldn't help but cheer on. Make sure to definitely finish book one before starting this one, as there is no way you would understand things here without the building of book one.
Masks and Majesty would be for you if you like: ✔️ Slow burning romance ✔️ Strong female leads ✔️ Dark and broody men ✔️ A full new world and take on witchcraft ✔️ Fantastic world building ✔️ Exciting story with action, friendship and betrayals ✔️ Cliffhangers
A Conspiracy of Witches: #1 - Feathers and Flame. #2 - Masks and Majesty. #3 - TBC.
I have been (impatiently) waiting for this second book in the “A Conspiracy of Witches” series! Back in this unique magic world, Thora and Kieran embark on an adventure to attend A Raven’s Banquet. As they travel together, they are forced to learn more about each other. But will it be enough to come together to face their enemy? And will Thora lean into or fight the prophecy?
This was definitely my favorite in the series so far! Thora and Kieran’s chemistry is just THICK with tension. I loved both of their character development and Thora is certainly a favorite of mine. There was also a lot of action and I FLEW through this book! I’m already shaking for the next one!
Thank you to N.B. Snook for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Every decade there is a Raven’s banquet. All Generals and Ravens are expected to attend. Kieran must attend or be branded a traitor. Recently declaring Thora as his fledgling to protect her she must come as well. Now Thora and Kieran are heading straight into Egon’s stronghold hidden under the mountain of Kirkjufell. There she learns more of Kierans past and more of her own destiny. And that she may not be able to run from it for much longer.
This book built on all the strengths from the first book. Seeing more of the world outside of Otnorot was amazing. We also learn more of Kieran’s background, which was just as tragic as I thought. I gotta say though, Egon was not what I was expecting. I thought he’d be more villainous. Also Connor definitely stole every scene he was in and I hate what happened to him. That cliffhanger though, I did not see that coming. Luckily I get to start the next book right away.
Rating 4 stars *I received a review copy from the author for my voluntary and honest review.
Fiery whip?! Heck yes! I love how Thora has embraced her magic and becoming more of a bada**! That slow burn was about to kill me though… I will say I could not put this one down! And that cliffhanger! So well written and the details…such as Egon’s collections. Amazing! Love this series so far!
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of Masks and Majesty in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts expressed below are my own, and have not been influenced in any way by outside parties. This does not contain any spoilers for book two, however there may be references to events that take place in book one.
Masks and Majesty is the second book in Noel B. Snook’s urban fantasy series, A Conspiracy of Witches. Book two picks up fairly quickly after the events of book one. Thora is still pretending to be an Aercon so that no one will suspect that she is the prophesied Phoenix. Kieran is still being a moody bastard. The tension between Thora and Kieran is… very much as it left off.
Book two takes us out of Otnorot (also why did I just now realize that it is Toronto spelled backwards… the shame), and allows us to see more Conduit settlements which was a really cool change. I loved seeing how other communities and groups lived and interacted, and how they each had their own unique quirks. Additionally, I desperately want to go to Kirkjufell. Snook describes it in a way that is so real and vivid, I felt like I was there.
I really liked how Noel continued the plot in this book. It allowed me to gain a deeper knowledge of Thora and Kieran both as individuals, and as they grapple with what they are to each other as a pair. We also get to learn more about Kieran’s past, and how he became a Conduit. I also loved the introduction of some new quirky, maddening, and suspect characters. I am beyond excited to learn more about them in book three, and am waiting very impatiently for a release date announcement.
Noel also includes a lot of really great plot twists throughout the book. The plot takes turns that were both believable, and caught me off guard (not an easy combo to achieve). I am dying to know what happens after the events of this book, because it ends in a pretty significant cliffhanger. Hint: Don’t look at the last page for page numbers.
While I was overall a fan of this book, I have a few critiques. There were some moments in the book where characters exhibited emotions that felt forced/unnatural/unnecessary. It felt like there were a few times where elements were included for the sack of backstory development and foreshadowing, but they did not feel authentic to the character. Additionally, I was a bit caught off guard by how quickly Thora seemed to lose the majority of her aversion to touch. It is a pretty significant phobia, and she was able to ignore it many times in a way that felt… weird.
All-in-all, I was a big fan of this novel. It is spooky, romantic, well-paced, and has you on the edge of your seat. If you are a fan of magic, alternate realities, etc. this book is a good choice. While it is not spicy, it does have some lovely soft and romantic moments.
Masks and Majesty is the second book in N.B Snooks series A Conspiracy of Witches, and it is a goodie!! I devoured the first book when I received it, and I did the same with this one. This book continues shortly after the events of book one and takes us out of Otnorot, with Thora and Kieran travelling to a Raven banquet in Kirkjufell. In this book, Snook dives more into the background of Kieran (which I loved!!) and introduces us to some interesting new characters. We are kept on our toes with plot twists throughout and a cliffhanger ending (WHY!?!?!?!). I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and absolutely recommend it to others.
Masks and Majesty is for you if like: Witchy books Strong female lead Broody men A slow burn Exciting storylines that keep you on your toes
Actual rating: 4.5 Note: I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
It's rare to find a book that really resonates with me and makes me feel. I laughed, I was anxious and I cried. I don't often cry while reading so it takes a special book to make me do that. Everyone was a suspect on my list in terms of who Egon was, people's true motives and what really happened the night Thora awakened as a Conduit.
Please, I implore you, read this book. I read the first book in a day and I can assure the second one lives up to expectations and then some. This series has been one of my favorites of the year and now I'll wait, impatiently, for the third book.
Thank you, Noel! You are absolutely amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and discussing the book with you
Well this is tricky to evaluate - first 20% was irritating, cause too much of the story was focused on the mystery of Kieran. Our heroine was like a dog running around her master and waiting to be pet or to hear a nice word. All i read was "oh Kai looked at me angry", "Kai is so damaged", "Kai made me blush" 😩🙄
BUT...🤔 what went next was very nice, they journey felt like fellowship of the ring went to Mordor (well the town was in a mountain) and there were challenges and twists, and stuff happening. (even some smut, our heroine starts touching people, yey👍👍)
The ending fooled us, at first unticlimactic, and then full on clusterfuck😅
This book was way better then first. (lets ignore the beggining) 😏
Wow! What a rollercoaster!! Not often do you find that the 2nd book is better than the first but this one truly has achieved that! I absolutely LOVED this book and so far the series! I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3!
Alexa has such a great voice and depth of range for this book! It was so easy to picture Thora actually sounding as she does with these particular mannerisms that she possesses and Alexa pulls that off flawlessly! I would give any book a try just because of Alexa!
Holy crap! Oh man. So I received this as an ARC for my honest opinion. I really liked the first one but I LOVED this one! The tension between Thora and Kieran is amazing. The character development of both of them was wonderful. I really enjoy the magic society in this. The ending is a hell of a cliff hanger but I cannot wait for book number 3!
I haven't been able to put this down ! Thora the Phoenix. When the Life you've never know or wanted. A Conspiracy of Witches ! What a Conspiracy Centuries of a different world explained and great Character building! This cliffhanger is unexpected. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This booooook! I’m so thankful I was an arc reader for this wonderful book! The twists and turns it took? Amazing! The character development? Amazing! The little bit of spice? Hello Kieran we see you! I can not wait for book three! This book may have ended in a cliffhanger but it’s worth the wait!
This book was an excellent follow up to Feathers and Flame! The dynamic between Kieran & Thora is *chefs kiss*, and that one chapter is divine. The cliffhanger at the end has me eagerly anticipating the 3rd book!
I thought I loved the first book, but book 2 has taken the cake! Snook has amped up the mystery, action, and even gave us more romance for our flaming heroine! 😍 For me, book 3 cannot come out fast enough after this cliffhanger!
I love this book series so much. Honestly, I’ve not read something like this before. I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen. It was amazing. 100% you should read
Like I said in my review for the first book, the world building is great. The story is good albeit a little predictable. I just really wish the editing was better! Typos and grammatical errors are extremely common.
