Health is not the exclusive domain of the bronzed and the buff. Whatever shape you’re in, you can be healthier than you are today, without making it your full-time job. Be Healthier Now is a collection of 100 things you can do this very moment to lead a healthier life. It includes tips on healthy eating and exercise, but it doesn’t stop there. Remember the why of being healthy; treat happiness as a medical necessity; and work less to live longer. With a life-changing tip on every page, you can flip anywhere in this instant, browsable book to learn something new. Plus, turn your favorite tips into lifelong habits with the daily and weekly habit trackers included. Backed by the latest scientific research and vetted by a medical doctor, Jacob Sager Weinstein provides a holistic program for creating a healthier life by focusing on five key Think Healthy, Act Healthy, Move Healthy, Eat Healthy, and Healthy All Over.
Jacob Sager Weinstein's work has appeared in The New Yorker and The Onion, and he has written for HBO as well. He lives in London with his wife and children.
Weinstein has created another installment of his "Be Now" series. Some previous editions were Be Happier Now, Be Smarter Now, and Live Richer Now. In Be Healthier Now, several areas are outlined as overall areas of healthier living with strategies in each area, such as, "Think Healthy, Act Healthy, Move Healthy, Eat Healthy, and Healthy All Over." In total, there are 100 ways that you could increase your health as a reader if you were to try the simple suggestions discussed in each area. There also were some helpful goal and tracking sheets provided in the book to help you physically write down your progress toward your healthier living goals. Weinstein pulls from several sources to compile all of the suggestions in the book and makes sure to reference those for the reader's further research and information.
I enjoyed the following suggestions that he made: create a sleep-friendly bedroom, remember the why for your goals, be patient with yourself, exercise at the right time, cook for yourself, and take the long view, to name a few. The habit trackers are easy to use and were a nice addition to this book as they are included as a freebie to help the reader get started tracking progress toward goals. A nice book to read around New Year's resolution time.
