This book has its hits and misses, in my opinion. First, the main theme of the book is a direct hit on thoughtless preparation for worship, or worship that is planned without any serious reflection on how the parts of the service will minister to the heart of the congregation. Such oversights in planning should never be permitted to happen, because they contribute to the problem of people leaving our services and saying, “I know everything was true, but I didn’t get anything out of it.”

Worship Words did a wonderful job of approaching many detrimental issues in worship today. Both Ron and Deb Rienstra work hard not to stereotype or generalize people of many different backgrounds and I appreciate that very, very much.

What I found to be most helpful were the insights that the Rienstras offered that would lead me to realize lessons in myself. Of course, this is completely subjective, but from reading this in a class setting, I realized that each one of my classmates also found le
