Vodou Love Magic: A Practical Guide to Love, Sex, and Relationships

Rate this book
A working guide on how to find love and sexual fulfillment by working with the lwa , the spirits of Haitian Vodou

• The first book on wanga (love magic) by an actual Vodou initiate

• Provides spells and spirit work for many different problems associated with affairs of the heart

• Spells included are detailed and easy to follow

Haitian Vodou, like other folk traditions, is an eminently practical craft. Vodou practitioners see their relationship with the lwa --the spirits honored in Haitian Vodou--as mutually beneficial rather than one-sided. In return for sincere offerings, the lwa are happy to provide protection and support in dealing with life’s problems--which more often than not concern love.

In Vodou Love Magic , Kenaz Filan details the myriad aspects of love and sex governed by the different lwa and explains what services each can provide in attaining fulfilling relationships--and who will likely offer the best wisdom for your needs. If you are having trouble meeting people, Legba’s Opening the Door spell can resolve this difficulty. If you wish more fire in a relationship, then you should work with the warrior spirit Papa Ogou. Filan presents easy-to-follow instructions for numerous love spells and also reveals how the lwa offer counsel for dealing with ending relationships, toxic behavior patterns like codependency, or romantic triangles.

Vodou Love Magic does not provide a magic genie who will fulfill every wish, but it does offer access to a team of spirits who can help transform dreams into realities.

After being so impressed by "The Haitian Vodou Handbook", this was a great disappointment. Well, at first, that is. I appreciated the topics covered in the beginning, although it was written in a manner that was almost offensive. Like a cheap new age self help book in the style of Miguel Ruiz, it seemed to me that Filan was in a rush to meet some kind of publisher contract deadline. Still, I was almost in complete agreement with the author's attitude to issues of love and romance, regardless of how annoying I found the wording. Once the book went into descriptions of the Lwa and suggested spellwork, I found myself enjoying the book almost as much as I liked "Handbook". Although I don't give the book the greatest recommendation, I liked how Filan continued to offer further insights into the nature and character of the Lwa. The Vodou spells are along the lines of those Luisah Teish outlined in "Jambalayah", but better. "Vodou Love Magic" is one of those volumes that I would keep around for reference, even for a small dose of inspiration, but it is one of those companion volumes that I hope will eventually be edited, rewritten and included in a future text that will take the best of Kenaz Filan. I haven't read "Vodou Money Magic" yet, but after looking through it at the bookstore, it seemed like I would like it a little more than this one. I am especially happy that Filan managed to get permission to use paintings by Andre Pierre (my favorite Haitian artist) for cover illustrations.
