Mirabelle doesn't mean to cause trouble, it just seems to follow her round. But when she and her brother go to stay at their fairy grandparents she is determined that nothing will go wrong, and she is going to be on her very best, most fairy-like, behaviour.
But being good all the time is really tiring. And a little bit of mess leads to a little bit of secret witch magic, which leads to even more mess, and even more magic, until everything is in total chaos! Can Mirabelle get the mayhem under control before Granny finds out?
Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.
It is time for a vacation to the grandparents, but what will happen when you add a nice dose of magics to that? Chaos!
In this delightful book it is time for a summer sleepover at the fairy grandparents of Mirabelle and her brother! They are looking forward to it a lot and I was eager to see more of the family + see where the fairies lived! Plus, of course, see if this time Mirabelle would be actually naughty or if misfortune just keeps stalking her.
Yes, that is right. She is naughty at times, and yes some of the things that happen in the books could have been prevented if she was just honest, but for most she just tries to fix things that aren’t always her fault. In this book it is the same. Her tiny dragon breathes fire, scorches the bed, and Mirabelle tries to fix it herself because she is worried for the reaction of the grandparents. I wouldn’t call that naughty. Naughty would be if she did something on purpose, something bad. Maybe my definition of naughty is just different from the author. I would say naughty is colouring the cat another colour (but then not for the reason to help them) or ringing someone’s doorbell and then running away, or taking away the cookies or candy you were said you couldn’t have. That kind of stuff. Not OMG, my dragon scorched my bed and I need to fix it.
But I loved seeing the chaos follow the whole fixing part, not just in regards to Mirabelle but also her brother. It really got mayhem and I was just laughing and wondering how long it would take for the grandparents to find out and see how they react! I just adored how the grandmother reacted and what happens next. And no, I won’t tell you. XD
I also loved seeing all the fun things they did together with their grandparents (and the brother learned a lesson about when the sun goes up). From yummy foods to going out for a swim to many other things and it just reminded me of my days of visiting my grandparents when I was a kid. They were rare occasions as they weren’t living nearby, but I remember them being fun!
The grandparents were so sweet and kind!
The illustrations were fabulous again and I just love the style.
All in all, not much a book about being naughty but more about chaos following Mirabelle wherever she goes. I had a lot of fun reading it!
Mirabelle and Wilbur are staying with their fairy grandparents and neither want to get into trouble, both being as good as they can be in the pristine and perfect fairy house. Then when things go wrong and they both use magic to fix it, it causes mayhem in their bedroom.
This was really so sweet, I really loved that Mirabelle wanted to be as good as possible and worked hard to not do anything that was naughty even though it was hard for her. I felt awful for her when Violet caused the start of the magical mayhem that transpires, she didn’t intend on it getting more and more out of hand.
I enjoyed seeing a different side of her family, spending more time with her brother, seeing her fairy side come out more, it was really adorable. I also liked that she started to embrace and learn a bit of being a half fairy.
This was a fun story and I enjoyed reading it, I always love this series, I love the purple colour pops on each page and the cute illustrations. These books are always such fun to read. They are funny, whimsical, easy to read, great characters and illustrations and perfect for young readers.
Here we are again. Another series I love, can all be read as standalones. Perfect for young girls. Beautifully illustrated throughout. Just over 100 pages. We al know Mirabelle always causes mischief where ever she ends up. In this story we go with her and her brother to her nan and grandads for a sleepover, surely she will behave for them won't she? Wrong. A brilliant story. Highly recommend. A well desered four stars.
Mirabelle and her brother Wilbur are visiting their Grandparents. It starts off with a polite conversation, and ends up with a stripy, white and purple cat! Will Granny find out? Will Mirabelle get into trouble?
I love this book because, just like all of the other books in the series, they’re quite short and don’t take that long to read. They have lovely illustrations too!
these books are getting to be kind of silly and pointless... my 7 year old daughter still likes them, so i will go through the motions - but , no ... not for me ... I like Amelia Fang MUCH better - at least there is some sort of plot in Amelia ...
