Two witch’s pets get into some magical mischief in this first book in the Styx and Scones Level 2 Ready-to-Read Graphics series!
Styx the cat and Scones the dog live with two friendly witches. When one witch leaves her wand out by mistake, Scones thinks it’s a stick and wants to play with it, and Styx joins in on the fun. Soon, unpredictable bursts of magic are everywhere! Can the duo clean up their magical mess before the witches find out?
Ready-to-Read Graphics books give readers the perfect introduction to the graphic novel format with easy-to-follow panels, speech bubbles with accessible vocabulary, and sequential storytelling that is spot-on for beginning readers. There’s even a how-to guide for reading graphic novels at the beginning of each book.
Another great addition to the ready to read comics, beginner, readers lineup. This one specifically focuses on two familiars, who are left behind by two witches, who go out to pick up some special fruit. While the witches are gone, the familiars find a stick, a.k.a. a wand on the mantle and they decide to experiment with it. Unfortunately because they’re unable to share, things go horribly wrong, and they have to attempt to fix it before the witches get back. I’m really enjoying these ready to read comics because I think that they draw in the interest of younger readers who are interested in comics but may be learning how to read independently. The illustrations for this were fun and vibrant, and I loved seeing the interactions between the two familiars. I know that there is a second book in the series and I’m definitely looking forward to reading it.
Styx (the cat) and Scones (the dog) get into mischief when their witches leave the hovel! Is that fun looking stick just a stick or actually a wand? This is a fun graphic novel for beginning readers. Even though it’s in graphic format, it works fine for read alouds.
The kindergarten junior librarian of our household thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s been through a couple of re-reads.
Two familiars of two witches get into mischief when they find a very good magical stick left behind one day. A funny graphic novel early reader with a magical twist.
