This story is a wonderfull book that teaches readers that apperance is not what deifes you. Through the use of a purple mermaid and a group of unsure mermaids children will gain that though you may look different, you may have many things in common. The use of sea animals the felling of being deep under the sea the listner will feel relaxed and happy by the end. The colorfull pictures and cute sea creatures are pleasing to the eye as well.

children in a kindergarten class could enjoy this story as the gain the understanding that we are all different inside and out. The differences are what make us who we are and should be celebrated not shyed away from. With the class during a cirle time bring out a soft or foam ball. Tell the children we all like different things just as we all look different. Have the children start with one child holding the ball, share a staement about themselves and the roll the ball to another. Have the children play the game at different times during the year and change the topic and have children say a coment back reffering to the previous childs response.

I absolutely adore this book.

It's a very short book for children with colorful illustrations of normal pink mermaids who live happy mermaid lives in a little underwater village together.

However, one day a PURPLE mermaid is born. They out-cast her, and then learn to re-love her by the end of the book.

Ending with a cute moral about loving everyone even if they're different then yourself.

I must admit I truly love this book because I bought it at a school book sale when I was in kindergarten. I actually bought it because my friend Crystal was going to and it was a child-like bonding experience. The story is actually very good in explaining how people or "mermaids" can be different colors and still be just as nice to have as friends and to play with. A book I shall cherish forever even though it is a rather simple little short story.
