Forever Hold Your Peace

Rate this book
Father of the Bride meets Bride Wars in Forever Hold Your Peace, in which two ex-best friends find themselves shockingly entangled after more than two decades apart, for fans of Good Company.

When their newly engaged kids ask all four divorced parents to meet each other over brunch, everyone RSVPs yes--secretly hoping someone at the table will get to the bottom of the bottomless mimosas fast enough to say what they’re all thinking: that this engagement, coming after a whirlwind romance between two people barely out of college, is too much too soon.

But at that brunch, it’s not the impulsive couple's decisions that end up under the microscope, as it turns out June, mother of the bride, and Amy, mother of the groom, certainly do know each other--they're ex-best-friends who haven't spoken since their explosive falling out more than twenty-five years ago. Reeling from their unwanted reunion and eager to shift the spotlight off their past as decades-old secrets and rivalries come to light, the two moms battle it out for the prize of Most Enthusiastic About This Wedding.

But when their history—and their present-day shenanigans—threaten to crack the foundations of the happy couple’s future, June and Amy find themselves becoming unexpected allies in an all-hands-on-deck effort to get their kids (and themselves) a happily-ever-after two generations in the making.

Forever Hold Your Peace is perfect for readers who love messy, complicated family novels like All Adults Here and stories that bring the past and present together like One Italian Summer.

If you were first in line at the theater on Friday nights, waiting to see the latest movie like “Father of the Bride”, stalked the Blockbuster shelf for “My Big, Fat Greek wedding”, reserved “The Wedding Planner” the first night it was available at Redbox or stream “Mamma Mia” repeatedly (I may be guilty as charged about the last one🤫) this might be the perfect Summer book for you!

It reads just like your favorite wedding movies!🍿

“When their newly engaged kids ask all four divorced parents to meet each other over brunch, everyone RSVPs yes--secretly hoping someone at the table will get to the bottom of the bottomless mimosas fast enough to say what they’re all thinking: that this engagement, coming after a whirlwind romance between two people who met on the romantic Almalfi Coast, is happening much too soon”.

But what has really come much too soon -this BRUNCH!

What are the odds that June (Mother of the bride, Olivia) and Amy, (mother of the groom, Zach) could have been BEST FRIENDS 25 years ago but for good reason, haven’t spoken a word to each other since?

As the two women forget that this is actually Olivia’s wedding, their petty behavior, (think Momzilla) and OTHER messy family secrets threaten the “Happy Ever After” of their kids.

This is a PG rated, often corny, wedding story which is easy to read and enjoyable, for those who have been craving their next “wedding story” fix!

A buddy read with DeAnn. Be sure to watch for her thoughts on this one!

Hurray! Such a deliciously scandalous, heartfelt, engaging women’s fiction-second chances story with Brides war meets father of the bride and Ticket to Paradise vibes! ( insta love and rushed marriage decision, second chances romance parts are definitely reminding me of Clooney and Roberts’ last romcom concept) Absolutely recommended for Jennifer Weiner and Elin Hilderbrand fans !

Liz Fenton& Lisa Steinem did a marvelous job by reflecting different characters’ raw emotions and showing us each of the characters’ vulnerable sides! Of course I was team June from the beginning. She was bookish, stubborn, introvert just like me. Her unresolved issues with her mother affect her own relationships with her daughter and Amy was perfectionist, multi tasking, career oriented woman who nagged me a lot with her long sheet lists, patronizing and her unhealthy control on her son’s life ( typical future monster in love) I had hard time to like her!

Uptight, workaholic William earned my trust more than easy going, flirty Troy who dates with women at his half age!

Here’s the quick recap:
V ( Olivia) and Z ( Zachary-Zach) are cute couple who met at their separate trips in Positano. When Zach takes photos of the marvelous views of Italian village, he realizes there’s someone more breathtaking than the views standing close to him! That is Olivia who rocked his world. After 6 weeks later they decide to get engaged and give the news to their parents.

Both of their parents are divorced couples who were nursing their own resentments. And each of them shows different reaction to this marriage.

June: bookstore owner, suffered from a big heartbreak many years ago that changed her whole life is shocked to hear the news but she still supports her daughter’s decision cause she doesn’t want to make some mistake her own estranged mother did to her ! Her ex husband William, anesthesiologist, serious, nervous man, who isn’t definitely pleased with the news and he has been dreaming to see his daughter as a successful lawyer ( his character has similarities with George Clooney’s character from Ticket to paradise movie)

What about Zach’s parents? Well, Troy who is successful realtor, literally boss of his son, dark comedy with younger girls, such a romantic and encourages this marriage while he’s keeping a big secret that can cause to a family scandal!

And over achier Amy feels like slapped against her face! She loves her son a little more like a momazilla! They even have their own Harry Potter movies binge watch-athon nights! She thinks her son is rushing like a fool and she hopes she can convince one of the parents of Olivia to team up with her to postpone this marriage decision.

So the entire parties plan a meet and greet brunch! Poor June is always tardy even though she tries her best her daughter. But as soon as she reaches to the restaurant she regrets it! It seems like she already knows Zach’s parents from her dark past!

So what will happen? Could those women burn their hatchets for their children’s sake? What about the big secret Zach is keeping? What if it comes out? Could V and Z’s relationship overcome this obstacle?

Overall: this is lighthearted, enjoyable romance, friendship, second chances story I truly liked!

This isn't my usual go to genre, don't get me wrong I do like a good romance but not of the cutesy kind...BUT I am always willing to broaden my reading horizons, especially from an author (or I should say authors in this case) that I have read and enjoyed in the past and I am really glad I branched out because this was such a fun read, if a bit predictable.

The book is described as "Father of the Bride meets Bride Wars" and it is that but it is also so much more. It's about forgiveness and letting go, letting your child make their decisions and or mistakes but it is done with a sense of humour. (Dad joke puns anyone?). It's also a book about second chances and is more focused on the three parents' past relationships than it is on the bride and groom, which was unique and refreshing.

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke always manage to weave a seamless tale together so you can't even tell it was written by two different people. Because it is fun and an easy read this would make for great beach fair. But as much fun as it was, it tended to be a bit on the repetitive side with the back and forth of the wedding planning and for that reason I am rounding down instead of up.

It’s wedding bells for Zach and Olivia after a whirlwind courtship and engagement in Italy.
But wait, before the young couple can skip down the aisle they need to bring the prospective in-laws together for a meet and greet.

Do you believe in coincidences? Well, neither do I!

These future in- laws have a history! Can they put their differences aside for the sake of the newlyweds? Or will they all be doomed to go their separate ways once again.

This was a very slow moving contemporary novel. And a bit too syrupy for me. Not what I expected from these two very talented authors. I’ve loved their books in the past and I’m sure I will once again love them in the future.

I had both the digital and audio versions and felt the digital worked just a bit better for me.

A buddy read with Susanne.

3.5 stars, cute story.

Zach and Olivia meet while both are on vacation in Italy. They discover that they live fairly close to each other in California. After a whirlwind romance, Zach proposes and the two decide to get both of their pairs of divorced parents together to meet as they plan their wedding. The parents aren't so wild about how quickly the couple got engaged but agree to meet each other. They discover that Olivia's mom and Zach's parents already know each other and have a background that has caused them to not speak for 25 years. Can they call a truce for their kids' sake?

This book reminded me of the movie Father of the Bride combined with The People We Hate at the Wedding and Monster-in-Law. This is a book where you just need to go with it and not over-analyze things, because overall the entire situation is so unlikely it is laughable, and even if it did occur, people wouldn't act this way in real life. However the story is entertaining and kept me invested and giggling at all of the silly things that happen.

I listened to this as an audiobook and that is the perfect format to enjoy this fun beach read. Lots of family drama and sweet romance, but there are also a few heavier and deeper topics that delve into themes of forgiveness, parenting choices, and acceptance.

Overall this is a delightful summer read that should appeal to a wide variety of readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Alcove Press for access to an egalley in exchange for an honest review.

When Zach and Olivia meet in Italy and sparks fly, it isn't too long before they are announcing to their parents that they are engaged. However, when they finally bring their parents together, old animosities surface. Will they make it to the altar?

I picked this title for two reasons. First, the two author's collaboration on The Year We Turned Forty was one of my favorite reads of 2020. Second, comparing this book to one of my favorite films, Father of the Bride made it hard to resist. There is a great theme around the subject of forgiving old hurts in order to move on. I appreciated the different character perspectives of the parents( June, Amy, and Troy) because it helped me understand where each was coming from. Even if I didn't find any of them very likable.

I just wish this book had been a little lighter. I wish Olivia's father, William had been a little more developed. I felt that the June and Amy conflict was a little petty and I was begging Z and V to just elope. I think there is already a flood of books on this very scenario that has been done. I don't really believe this storyline added anything new.

Imagine if your daughter was marrying a stranger that she met on vacation? How would you react? Try to break them up or be supportive? But what if this stranger isn't quite so unknown after all? This is the delicious premise explored in this fun, funny and heartwarming novel from Steinke and Fenton. I've read all of their novels, and this is one of their best.

Dear Reader,

People tend to have strong thoughts on whether or not an author should rate their own book. But we're of the opinion that you must believe in and champion yourself.

Forever Hold Your Peace is a culmination of three years of losing ourselves, and fighting our way back to publication. There were so many times we thought we'd never find our path. Never have the privilege of giving our own book five stars. Yet, here we are.

FHYP is about two women who once shared a deep friendship and now, twenty five years later, find themselves forced back into one another's lives. It's about love, betrayal, and the power of forgiveness. And, it's a lot of fun too!

We loved writing this novel. And maybe because we penned it when we had nothing to lose. So we wrote from the heart with the understanding that maybe no one would ever read the words. We wrote it for each other.

We hope you enjoy the world we created. That you come to love June, Amy and the rest of the cast and their perfect imperfections. Most importantly, we thank you for reading.

I had been waiting a few years for a new novel by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke and they definitely delivered with Forever Hold Your Peace! This is the first book of theirs that is neither surreal or a thriller. It's a fun rom-com about all kinds of relationships and how they play into a wedding.

I only had one major falling out with my best friend, about 19 years ago, and we started finding our way back to each other less than a year later. While it took some time for things to get back to normal, I am thankful that they eventually did. And it just made our friendship stronger in the long run. So thinking about best friends being estranged for 25 years is heartbreaking.

This story has a bit of a Parent Trap feel, but instead with an engaged couple that ends up reuniting two best friends who had a huge falling out before [at least part of] the couple was even born. I liked the concept of this novel and how June and Amy become momzillas over the wedding plans. There's also more to the story than just this, but I will save that explanation as to not spoil what happens. It contains multiple perspectives, so you're not just getting June and Amy's sides of the situation. I enjoyed all the pop culture references throughout, some being rather nostalgic!

Overall, it was a sweet story and I even got misty-eyed at one point. I had a great time reading it. Forever Hold Your Peace will be available in July, so be sure to grab a copy and add it to your beach bag!

Olivia Abbot's parents pay for her to travel to Italy, during her summer vacation she meets Zach Carter. They fall in love, Olivia can’t believe it when Zach pops the questions and she accepts. The newly engaged couple can’t wait to return to California, start planning their wedding and they don't want a long engagement.

They decide their four divorced parents should meet and go out for brunch, Olivia's mum June and father William, and Zach’s mum Amy and father Troy. After such a whirlwind courtship, both families don’t want Olivia and Zach rushing into getting married and plan on discussing this with them. At the brunch, June is late and when she walks in and see’s who’s sitting at the table, she bursts into tears and runs outside. Years ago June and Amy were best friends, they had a huge falling out and haven’t spoken to each other in twenty six years.

Olivia and Zach had no idea their mothers were once friends, both women are now enemies, and they turn organizing the wedding into a competition and a vindictive one. Olivia and Zach are confused and hurt, when the long kept secret is revealed, and the reason why their mothers friendship ended and they start to question if they should get married.

June and Amy have to bury the hatched, not in each other’s backs and try to get Olivia and Zach to see they are perfect for each other, love is worth fighting for and they start planning how to reunited the love birds.

I received a digital copy of Forever Hold Your Peace by co-authors and friends Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The stories main focus is on relationships, young love, divorced parents, complicated family dynamics, rivalry, drama, secrets, a big mistake, June getting over feeling resentful and angry towards two people and being able to forgive them. Four stars from me, for readers who believe in love, and with a few twists and turns in the plot to keep you invested.

Is this a beach read? Yes, it is. Is it a light and fluffy beach read? No. Is it even a good beach read? Not in my opinion.

I have never read anything by these two authors, so please forgive my ignorance. I see that many reviews have read them and enjoyed them. I am not enjoying this depressing book at all.

It was difficult enough for me to become engaged in the romance of what I consider young adults (sorry, I'm in my 60's). However, I do understand the quickness of the romance and marriage of Zach and Olivia. My husband and I met and married within 4 months! We have been married for over 41 years!

What starts as a light, fluffy romance soon becomes a gigantic mess. This mess is because of this couple's parents, who knew each other way back when. I won't go into the sordid details but suffice it to say it was NOT pretty - but as older adults who cannot get their act together for their kids...*sigh*.

Add the inner dialoguing and angst that goes on for pages at a time, and I was ready to dump this book unfinished.

All this, and I am only 45% finished with this book!

The following third of the book deals with this group of frenemies and how they try to plan a wedding, all while stabbing each other in the back in the nicest of ways. After something (which was expected) happens at Zach and Olivia's engagement party, this book turns into one big blame game, with each person blaming themselves and others for what had happened at the party 26 years ago. Whew, I was exhausted by this time!

The last chapter or two is our happily ever after-did you think there wasn't going to be one? Please!

No, this wasn't an extraordinary novel; the characters were flat, with hardly anything to differentiate them. You could see the ending coming a mile away, even though it was somewhat creative.

It should be a good beach, or plane read, even if it isn't all that fluffy until the end.

This is book #8 by this duo and I have always enjoyed ALL of their books!! Olivia’s mother sent her to Italy for an adventure after she graduated. She meets Jack and they get engaged after only dating for 6 weeks. Let the fun begin once they tell each of the parents! I am definitely in the minority here with my 3 star rating. I’m not sure what happened as I found myself skipping parts of this book as I felt it was very repetitive with all the prep going into the wedding shenanigans. I wanted to like this book much more but it fell flat for me. Everyone was getting on my nerves by the middle of the book. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published July 2023 and I do look forward to their next book. This book just didn’t mesh with me this time.

June and Amy are not thrilled when their young (but grown, mind you) children come home from a trip abroad with the news that they are engaged. June thought she was close to Olivia, but bungles it when her daughter reveals the engagement, creating distance between them. Amy and Zach have been close since she divorced his father when Zach was a toddler, and no girlfriend has ever measured up to Amy's standards. She cannot believe that Zach didn't tell her about the engagement until coming home. But nothing beats June or Amy's surprise when the parents meet for the first time, and the two women realize that they know each other: they were once best friends in college, but a shocking event broke up their friendship for life. June and Amy are horrified to realize their kids are getting married, but try to shift the focus to breaking up Zach and Olivia's rapid engagement.

I had assumed this was a thriller, as per the authors' usual MO. It's not, but it's still a really captivating read. There is drama supreme here with the parents' saga! Some of the characters are quite annoying (I'm looking at you, Amy). Still, I couldn't help but keep reading. It's a silly story but a quick read. No character felt particularly fleshed out, but I felt engaged by June and Amy's story. The book is really just as much about the older characters as the young, even if it opens on Zach and Olivia's whirlwind romance.

There's a bit of romance thrown in here (beyond our young couple) and the ending is fairly cute. I do hate the trope of lying and miscommunication, though--I sure wish that happened a little less here. 3.5 stars.

Book Title: Forever Hold Your Peace
Author: Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke
Publisher: Alcove Press
Genre: Chick Lit
Pub Date: July 11, 2023
My Rating: 4 Stars!

I and a fan this is #5 for me. I have been following these two fun authors through their slump. I remember when they were writing a new book every year and had the same expectation so loved both Liz and Lisa review on this novel!! BTW: My Book Club with invited to a Book Launch for The Two Lila Bennetts which was such a fun experience!!

In this story we have V and Z aka Olivia and Zach who met in Positano, Italy ~ a short 6 weeks later they are engaged.

Olivia’s Parents: June and William Abbot. June is now bookstore owner but divorced from William, who is an anesthesiologist.

Zach’s parents: Amy and Troy Carter.
Since both of their parents are divorced, the parents want the young couple to be sure of this decision. June in particulate believes they are moving too quickly and hopes the others or at lease someone will agree with her to convince them to postpone this marriage.

The parents finally agree to meet Olivia and Zach for brunch. June is late which seems to me her MO. Olivia is embarrassed but pleased when her mother arrives only it turns out that the June knew Zach’s parents’ years ago. (Oh No! I have a feeling this isn’t good.)
June and Amy were best friends until they have a huge falling out. That was twenty-five years ago and now Zach feels responsible.

As the wedding plans continue there are a lot concerns as to whether everyone can recover and be one happy family.

Will the mothers be able to forgive and forget for their children’s sake?
What about the big secret Zach is keeping? What if it comes out?
Hmmm V and Z’s relationship certainly has some bumps to smooth in order to overcome these obstacles.

This was an enjoyable read. The humor was not hilarious but more eye rolling for me ~ things such as those wedding favors – no spoiler I’ll let you decide if you want to laugh or roll your eyes!
Also it is really a good thing this story started with V and Z instead of the psycho parents!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Alcove Press for granted me the pleasure of reading this great early eGalley.

The girls are BACK!

Fate, family and friendship put true love to the test in this fun, witty read by dynamic duo Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke. Relationships are complex, but imagine finding out your in-laws have a history! Visual and entertaining (I see the movie), the ending came with goosebumps and tears. A big-hearted summer must-read.

In what felt like a throwback to their earlier work, the dynamic duo of Liz & Lisa have returned to the world of women's fiction. What happens when a friendship died over one friend sleeping with the other's boyfriend? And now those frenemies children are engaged? A whole lot of chaos!

I enjoyed all the family drama and shenanigans in Forever Hold Your Peace and truly loved the return to this genre for Liz & Lisa!

I’m not sure why this book got so many 4 star reviews, it was poorly written, and poorly edited. It was a good story idea, but really poorly executed. It seemed to have been written for advertisers, not readers, as it had so many brand and pop culture references, cliches, not to mention so many lessons on every aspect of social media. Super cheesy. And lame. In Chapter 24 the authors even seem to acknowledge how lame the content is, by calling out how “lame” the name of their little “project” is. Around the same time, the dialogue switches to a completely different format like the script of a play, as though the authors were too lazy to add the he said/she said quotations. It’s messy.

I thought maybe it was written for teens, but if it was for teens, surely it wouldn’t be necessary to explain Snapchat-maps, etc.

I will generously allow that this was written in part during the pandemic, so maybe that’s why it doesn’t compare to a couple of other books that I’ve read by these authors.

A seriously, cute, sweet, fun, easy, read. In case you didn't get the point yet, I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one day..

First of all, I love this writing duo. I love their style of writing, and how they make the characters so relatable. They say and do things that either I would do myself, or I want to be friends with the character who did.

This was a story of romance, of family, of drama (lots of drama), and it was just sweet.

A couple meet in italy and get engaged quickly. Their parents think it is too quick of course. Then all the parents and the young couple meet for lunch and it turns out that the mothers knew each other years ago. I wont say any more because I don't want to spoil anything.

Was some of it too cute or too Hallmark-ish? Sure, but who cares.. I loved the story, I loved the people and I may have even shed a real tear or two..

I definitely recommend this book when it’s released! Thank you to #NetGalley, Liz & Lisa, and Alcove Press for the ARC which did not impact my review.

You know those wedding planner movies you have watched and loved over and over again? Forever Hold Your Peace falls into the same category as those and you will love it. Great easy summer read with memorable characters and messy, yet relatable, relationships between families and friends. Completely engaging and would be perfect on film!

I absolutely loved every page - I was 100 percent invested in each character and could feel the love, resentment, and hope they shared with one another. So many cute side stories and hope for the future. Absolutely a feel good, make your heart happy story and I can’t wait for it to be a book read on the beach this summer.

Thanks to the authors for sharing their stories of getting this book published. You ladies are so inspiring and though I’ve adored all your books this one was your best. The characters, the setting, the plot. Absolutely wonderful.

The synopsis of this one compares it to Father of the Bride and that is really apt as it definitely reminded me of many beloved wedding themed movies and had a very similar vibe to that classic. I am a sucker for a wedding in a movie or a book and bonus points if there’s family drama and there is so much entertaining mess here to love. A whirlwind engagement is difficult enough to understand for Olivia and Zach’s parents but when the details about the mothers of the engaged couples past come out I was living for the drama of it all. Chaos ensues and Amy and June engaging in passive aggressive arguments and petty behavior was so entertaining for me, think total bridezilla moments but from the moms. So deliciously fun. The authors really shine when writing about friendships and the complex dynamics between Amy and June were handled in a funny and super engaging way. This was a sweet and light read that would be a perfect vacation read.

I absolutely devoured this novel. It was engrossing, amusing, unique & messy.

This book was unlike anything I have ever read before. It felt like a plot of an iconic rom-com movie.

While there was sweet & silly romance, there was also unraveling of secrets, twists & turns and crazy humor.

I highly recommend this book if you like rom-coms with mysterious touch.

Forever Hold Your Peace by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke is a fun love story about a young couple who meet and fall in instant-love while on vacation in Positano. They are engaged after six weeks, but who’s counting? One lesson from the charming story is that we are all victims of our parents, and they tend to screw everything up…amiright? Well, they can muck up a good thing by trying too hard. Our young couple, Olivia and Zach are all in and are certain they have met their soul mates but when it’s time to meet the parents, sh*t hits the proverbial fan. It seems the parents have some solid history and it’s not good. Their wedding goes on hold, the couple breaks up, and then the parents GROW up and start thinking about the two lovebirds instead of themselves. It’s a sweet love story and another perfect summer read. #Pasadena #roseparade #truelove #Positano #parents #divorcedparents #grandparents #quickiewedding #nosheisnotpregnant #makingamends #love #family #future #LizFenton #LisaSteinke #ForeverHoldYourPeace @netgalley #AlcovePress #PubDateJuly11th #romance #chicklit @lisasteinke @lizfenton1 @alcovepress

I wasn’t sure about this one at first. The details seemed kind of shady, and I was totally taking one side over the other. However, I definitely loved how it built up and ultimately ended. A cute love story from the original couple but ultimately an adorable second chance romance too.

🌀Synopsis
June and Amy’s kids are getting married. As if their young and quick engagement wasn’t enough, June and Amy haven’t seen each other in years and for a good reason!
Many years ago, Amy slept with June’s fiancé one drunken night. Which, of course, led to the breakup of the couple and the creation of the groom. Their kids know nothing of this story either. So when the truth starts coming out, things start unraveling quickly.
The bride feels betrayed and no longer wants to get married. Both the bride and groom are absolutely miserable though, and the adults are desperate to get them back together. Putting the past in the pat, Amy and June must find a way work together for the benefit of their children.

I enjoyed this book. A few times I thought I knew what was going to happen and was pleasantly surprised to find out I was wrong. While there were a few predictable moments, it didn't take away from the book. I really appreciated the characters and often found myself wondering how I might react if I were in either of their places. This was my first book by Liz Fenton and I look forward to reading some of her other titles.

Olivia and Zach meet while vacationing in Italy. It’s a very romantic setting and they both happen to be from California. They fall in love quickly and decide to get married, but when they get back home, their parents have strong opinions about them getting hitched so fast. Turns out the parents have their own motivations. This is a light romance that was a redemption story about how young love affects us for the rest of our lives.

Woooo engaged to your ex best friends son/daughter only deals in for disaster. A cute rom com kinda read that had you rooting for the couple as the moms take over the wedding arrangements and deal with their crazy past.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book is

“I truly believe some of our worst choices lead us to things we didn’t know we needed. That a scar tissue from our mistakes is what makes us interesting.”

It was love at first sight when Olivia and Zack met on the Almafi coast. Instantly smitten, Zack proposes and Olivia accepts. Even more amazing? The lovebirds are from the same area. All that’s left to do is share the good news with their respective families.

Both Olivia and Zack’s parents are in amicable divorces, but all four parental units still have differing feelings about the impending nuptials. The mothers, Amy and June, are particularly concerned. Also weighing in are Olivia’s grandmother, more or less estranged from her mother, June, and Olivia’s younger sister and best friend, Chloe.

Finally the big day before THE big day arrives. Only when June finally gets to the brunch she realizes Zack’s parents are not strangers at all- in fact she was once engaged to Zack’s dad and best friend’s with Zack’s mom-well before they slept with each other on the eve of her wedding and had a kid together, that is.

Complicit in the understanding they need to keep it together for the sake of the “kids”, Amy and June still can’t help but to try to outdo the other in an effort to create the perfect wedding, albeit, not one that’s perfect for Olivia or Zack. As old wounds are reopened and secrets are revealed, it isn’t long before one has to wonder how much the upheavals will alter these two getting to the altar.

Forever Hold Your Peace is a rom com with Father of the Bride, old school 90s vibes. While some moments are intentionally ridiculous, others are annoyingly so. I could see it all playing out on the big screen, but in print all I could focus on at times was how childish the older characters acted in contrast to their younger counterparts. That being said, there are some tender moments and an underlying theme of second chances.

There were parts of this book that I adored, Zack and Olivia and even Chloe but there were things that made me want to throw my kindle across the room as well.
Zack and Chloe meet on a twist of fate and they fall madly in love. After 6 weeks they are engaged and when the parents meet, that is when the fireworks really begin. June and Amy were best friends, until they weren't. As soon as they see each other, past hurts are drudged up and emotions run high. They want to be cordial because their children love each other so much, but sometimes emotions come out anyways especially when things were never resolved in the past.
I went into this book thinking it was a tiff between friends and it would be a fun read hoping beyond hope that the two of them would work it out and they would all become friends again. I left this book hoping that June would stay far away from Amy and I still stand by that. We all know we should forgive and let things go from the past but when there has been that much damage I really don't see how anyone comes back from that. I am not going to go into the drama because I don't want to spoil it, but June's ex husband was my favorite of all these parents. I felt for him so much here. I am just glad to know that Zack and Olivia will live a long happy life together even if their parents are not the best people.
Thanks to Alcove, Netgalley and Liz Fenton, Lisa Steinke for an early copy.
