Thrust into the deadly faelands, I must harness my magic fast to survive.
My life is turned upside down when a mysterious fae abducts me to the Summer Court where I’m expected to serve the ruthless king. He wants me to exploit my ability to influence others and bend their wills for his nefarious purposes.
To ensure I do as I’m told, handsome High Commander Nathan keeps an eye on me. Equal parts unbending and fascinating, Nathan’s blind support of the king is both admirable and terrifying. I’m determined to keep Nathan at arm’s length, but it becomes harder and harder, the more time I spend with him. His kindness, strength, and dedication make it impossible not to fall for him.
As the king’s demands become crazier and crazier, I must make a choice—bite my tongue to stay in my new home, or go against him and lose everything.

Vile Vamps To A Mad King?😲😢💔💥 A 4-4.5 Star Read 🌟 (I was given a complimentary copy of this e-book, with no expectations or agreements placed upon me) Reluctant Fae (Fae Prison Academy Book #1)
The prequel of this series was based around Peony & the Summer Courts illegitimate son, Cade. Book #1 is about Virgie & the Fae High Commander Nathan.
After being sold by Thorrsten's sire, Virgie is truly fearful for what's to come, but a Fae called Cade arrives & takes her to the Faeland!😲👍 She can't believe her luck initially & is stunned at how beautiful her true home realm is!😍🌲🌺 It soon becomes apparent that she has a particular power that's rare among the Fae & the Summer Court King wants her to prove her allegiance to him.👑 Her power is to persuade others, She'll need to develop other mind skills with training too! She's excited until her teachers start to make her use skills on other Fae brought there from Earth.😔 She's forced to make them concentrate in lessons & comply with instructions!😢 That's just the start!!😡
She's pleased to realise Peony really has changed & learns she was a part of the attack & destruction of the dreaded Nocturnal Academy!🙏 They agree to a redo of their relationship as new Fae!🙏😍 As time goes on they both come to realise they're still viewed very much as beneath the rest of the Fae, they aren't even being taught to fly!!😱😔
Nathan is a stoic young man & Virgie can't help becoming more attracted to him. However she doesn't like his blinkered view of their king. When Princess Onyx came to offer peace talks, Virgie was able to slip past the King's mental shields to try to calm him down. She saw a festering hatred of yellow, green & blackness inside of him.😲😢 She believes he doesn't ever want peace & only wants revenge and to crush the Winter Fae Court & it's people, no matter how many of his own people have to perish to accomplish that goal!!!😱😡💔💥
I enjoyed this book. I love Virgie & slowly came to like Nathan, he was hard to like for a long time though!!😕 Its pace could have been a little more urgent throughout, I felt, to up the tension & drama!👍 The world's this is set in are stunning and we got our first look at the Winter Court, so cool!😍❇✨The ending was horrifying, truly!!💔😭 Roll on book #2 asap 🙏🌟
A Fae, Virgie is a vampire courtesan to a very high and powerful vampire. He has never laid a hand on her in any way which is confusing for Virgie. She wonders why he bought her to be his courtesan. One day Virgie thinks she has fell out of favor with her master and is afraid that he is going to sell her to another vampire that will probably use and abuse her.
Imagine her surprise when that is not what happened. No before that could take place Virgie is swept away by a Summer Court Fae and taken to Faeland. In Faeland Virgie is to serve the king. Virgie is taught about the difference between the Summer Fae, the Winter Fae and all the Fae in the land and how to respect them. Virgie is also to be taught how to use her powers and practice so she can become stronger.
When her training is over Virgie is not sure where she if she will get to stay in Faeland or if she will be sent to Earth. Virgie works real hard in training hoping to pass the test of the Summer Court and hopefully she will be able to stay in Faeland.
Reluctant Fae is the first book in a brand new trilogy the Fae Prison Academy. Reluctant Fae took us into the beautiful Faeland where I felt as if I was there myself. I could just see all the beautiful colors in the fields and their clothes. The descriptions of the different colors made me feel all warm and cozy and light, happy. The world building was so well done I could see it in my head as if I had ESP or something. Maybe the authors had me under their spell or they have magic abilities like Virgie or something similar.
Reluctant Fae has suspense enough to keep you glued to the pages waiting to see what is going to happen next. The twists just keep rolling out keeping the pages turning twists that I never expected.
The vampires, Virgie and the Fae will keep you glued to the pages unable to put it down until you have read the last page with all these awesome new characters as well as a few that we already know from other books in the Nocturnal Academy series.
I highly recommend Reluctant Fae to all vampire, fae, and magic fans and to those who have read the Nocturnal Academy series. One click your copy today to begin this wonderful new adventure in the Faeland.
I got this ARC sent to me by the author for free in exchanged for an honset review.. Reluctant Fae is the first book in a brand new trilogy for the Fae Prison Academy.. This book Follows Virgie
This book talks about how she is doing with her vampire master, Virgie is a vampire courtesan to a very high and powerful vampire called Griffin Steinberg and i am glad she has a vampire master that is sweet and kind because he does not ask her to do anything which she keeps wondering why but he just keeps her safe which is nice to see because he is not like the another vampires because he cares about people but he does not want anyone to see that side because he is a powerful vampire..
I thought it was nice that the vampire Griffin Steinberg helps Virgie to be safe by letting a prince Fae from the summer court take her to the faeland.. There are some new interesting new characters showing up in this book and a lot of magic and action in this book too..
fav characters: ⦁ Caleb ( Royal Fae ) ⦁ peony ( Fae ) ⦁ Thorsten ( vampire, onyx's boyfriend ) ⦁ Onyx ( Princess of winter court) ⦁ Pierre ( Fae, stylist and funny) ⦁ Nathan ( High commander Fae)
I like the relationship between Virgie and Nathan because they are so sweet together and that are such sassy characters.. I think that since Virgie got to the faeland she has changed a lot because in the Nocturnal Academy she was a bit shy, quiet, always followed Peony around in the academy trying to stay safe but now that she is in the faeland she has grow a lot because she is more stronger, very sassy, stands up for people that needs help, does not let anyone hurt her and cares about her friends and try's to look out for people that needs help..
My Full review is up on my blog so go and check it out if you want to know my thoughts for this book..
Find out what happens when Virgie is suddenly taken to the Summer Court and placed in a school where she is expected to learn to used her persuasive powers to help King Peter. Virgie is used to adapting to circumstances, but she can see that the earth fae are not going to be treated much better by the fee of the Summer Court than they are by the vampires. Both have uses for them that take no account of them as individuals worthy of respect. It is just a new prison with different guards and masters. When Onyx comes to the court to try to negotiate a truce between the Winter and Summer courts, Virgie can see that the King is not interested in peace. He wants revenge and doesn't care how many fae die for him to get it. Virgie does her best to influence the proceedings but has little success. When she and the military commander are sent to the Winter Court to bring back a high-profile prisoner they end up bringing back the one person Onyx will do anything to get back. Oops.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
The Summer Court led by Caleb Kallan the bastard son of King Peter rescued the earth bound Fae held at Nocturna Academy and returned them to the Fae realm. Virgie who worked for Griffin Steinberg was suddenly told she was being sold but wasn’t told to who. As she waited to be picked up she continued to wonder where she was going. When she was picked up she was shocked to see it was a Fae. They go through a portal leading to the Summer Court and Virgie’s life drastically changes. This book has deception and romance with so many twists and turns. Virgie must hone her magic to try to prevent a war that the Summer King wants against Onyx and the Winter Court. I received an ARC for a honest review and I highly recommend this book.
I'm really enjoying this spin off from CRUEL ELITES series. In this book we are back with Virgie. It's now her turn to venture into the Summer Fae court. There she encounters both Peony and Kristen once again as she learns the ropes and finds her own possible romance. Virgie has a keen intellect and easily sees through their King. Can she convince others around her that he doesn't have everyone's best interest at heart? True to form there's tons of political intrigue, deception, and suspense... And one uber smart, canny, fierce female at the center of it all. It does end with a cliffhanger, and I for one can't wait for the next book in this exciting series!
Reluctant Fae is book one in Fae Prison academy and a sequel of the Cruel Elites series.
Virgie's vampire master sold her. At first she's scare she's being send to a crueler vampire but is shocked to find that a fae is taking her to the Summer Court.
In the Faeland, Virgie must devolp her magical abillities and prove her loyalities to the Summer King if she doesn't want to be exiled back to earth.
And the Winter and Summer court are on the verge of war. Except is the King could accept the terms of peace of the Winter princess Onyx...
I have received and arc of this book from Holly Hook.
I received an ARC. This is my honest opinion. This installment features Vergie & her newfound powers upon returning to the Summer Court. She’s traded one cruel leader for another. Peony makes a return as well & it’s fun to see a more mature side of her. More treachery abounds. If you enjoyed Cruel Elites, Vicious Royals & Savage Monarchs, this is a must read as it delves deeper in the world of the fae.
I really have loved the first instalment of Virgie's story. She was always quite quiet before, but know you know that is because there is a lot going on in her mind. She is a thinker, but also a doer.. However not always quick enough. She finds her self in a spot serving the mad King Peter, the fae lands aren't as they hoped they would be. Nathan is a work in progress, there is more to him. Looking forward to the next book.
When Virgie is abruptly taken to the fae summer court from her vampire consort, she’s not sure what to think. She realizes very quickly how they just want to use her, and she has to decide how to stay loyal to the king, and also loyal to what she thinks is right.
I really enjoyed Virgie in the original series written. I am very thankful that this continuation is from her point of view and she is coming into her own.
Virgie being the only mind manipulator Fae in the Summer Court is really interesting because she is very valuable to the Summer Court King.
These covers are so gorgeous and I really love the colour of Virgie's wings. Seeing her become more confident in her powers is really special and horrifying to watch. She wants to stop any possible wars, but to do that she has to get close to the Summer Court King.
If we thought the Vampires were bad in the original series; King Peter might give them a run for their money. This Fae is completely off his rocker. He is greedy, selfish and completely delusional. It makes for a very exciting and entertaining read.
The ending of this first installment definitely had me laughing because it was just so strange. A Plant. You'll know once you read it.
I'm glad that Onyx was still a part of these pages even if it was just a little bit. I am hoping more in the second novel that the 'gang' will get back together to stop the corruption and war that the Summer King seemingly wants more than anything.
I can't wait to find out what wild ride these characters get into in the next novel. Will we be going to the wastelands?
Read this series, it is totally a rollercoaster of a ride !
King Peter had sent Carson to retrieve Virgie. As a mentalist, she was to assist in convincing Earthbound far to fight for King Peter against any threats. However, the more she learns, the less she likes King Peter and his heir Perceival. She tries not to fall for Commander Nathan despite the court portraying them being involved to the media.
Exceptional world-building with major emotional turmoil placed on a young fae that was unsure about whether her choices were hers. The details are vivid as Virtue navigates the obstacles stacked against her in the unpredictable plot. The cliffhanger ending left me eager to read the sequel.
Great start to a new series, While this may be book one to the series there is a prequel that you can listen to that will help you know what is going on in case you have not read other books in the author's backlist which are set in the same world and gives the backgrounds for the characters. This book is the beginning for Virgie and let me say she is now in a better place. The narrator did great
The constant reference to something that happened in another series (which I haven't read) is annoying. There's nothing that is drawing me into the book, so I'm pretty bored. 10/10 do not recommend to other readers.
This is a good book. The mental fae becomes more confident along the book which I loved. It wasn’t the best book or story I ever read but I really enjoyed reading it.
I enjoyed reading this, right from the beginning the writing is engaging and doesn't stop. Full of twists and turns, suspense and action, as well as a cast of familiar characters and some new faces, this was a joy to read.
War between the Summer Fae and the Winter Fae is imminent. Virgie didn’t know why her master never used her as a blood courtesan until a year had passed and he suddenly sold her to the Summer Fae. But Virgie has heard stories about King Peter and his Summer Court and is more terrified of going there than being a blood courtesan. And she was right. King Peter is a psychotic ruler bent on revenge against the Winter Court and will sacrifice anyone to get what he wants. He will sacrifice the Fae rescued from Nocturnal Academy as warriors in his war against the Winter Court, and he wants Vergie to use her mental abilities against the fae and force them to do his bidding. But Virgie is the only one seeming to speak her mind and she doesn’t want to go against Princess Onyx of the Winter Court as she is the only one who ever helped her at the Academy and she trusts her. Now she has to balance pretending agree to the King’s requests while trying to get Nathan, Caleb, Peony, and Kristen and the other fae to realize the King’s true intent. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a sequel to the Cruel Elites series. If you haven’t read those books they’d be helpful for background into characters. That being said I think you can enjoy the story even if you haven’t read that series. This is the beginning of Virgie’s story after the academy. She’s secured a position with a vampire who doesn’t mistreat her. She is worried that her shows little of the expected interest in her. Until one day she’s bought by a fae and brought into the faeland. She starts training at the Vasara training facility with many of the previously earthbound fae. All is not a bed of roses and the longer Virgie is in the Summer Court’s facility the more she finds suspicious. Can she uncover the truth of what the king really wants from her and her cohorts? Will there be war between the two courts? We will have to read on and see. A great beginning to the new series. 4/5 stars as it’s a bit on the dark side. But the characters are well written and the fae world is vivid and enchanting if not completely what it appears to be. I received an ARC from the author. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Fae Prison Academy is the first book in a new trilogy by Margo Ryerkerk and Holly Hooks. The main character is Virgie, who was also featured in the Nocturnal Academy trilogy. Virgie is a summer Fae who is employed as a courtesan for Griffin Steinberg, a vampire with very high status.
Despite being a courtesan, Steinberg never seems interested in Virgie in that way, which always confused her. Only until she is sold to a "new master" does she fully understand why Steinberg kept his distance from her!
Turns out, she has special talents that allow her to influence what people are doing and thinking. Virgie travels to the Faerie and is immediately employed by the Summer Court to work her magic. Though she is happy to be away from vampires, she wonders if she traded one prison for another, because the King of the Summer Court seems extremely selfish and volatile.
I really enjoyed this book! Though we saw her in a different series, Virgie is actually a great character who really comes into her own in this book. I am so curious to see what happens next!
Book 1 of Far Prison academy follows Virgie into the same Fae world as Nocturna Academy. I was thrilled to see that there is a spinoff series to the Nocturna Academy!! This new series shows us what happens next after what happens at the academy. I loved seeing several of the Fae students in this spinoff series and seeing one of my beloved Fae. Virgie has certainly grown in this book from previous academy books and I like that she has finally grown a backbone of sorts. We find ourselves in the Summer court where Virgie learns of her new powers and ancestry and she is told she must attend school to learn and be able to control her newfound powers to help King Peter. But Virgie doesn’t believe in what the King is telling his people. Can she work against him in his own kingdom? Can she get away with it? Pick this spinoff series to find out!! I did listen to the audiobook and I loved it! The narrator portrayed Virgie perfectly and I felt like she was the the right choice to portray her and other characters as well.
This is a great story and I love the characters. Virgie (Vergeat) is a mentalist fae, that are very rare. The story starts off with her being in the with the vampire who payed for her to be his courtesan. She learns that her vampire boss doesn’t want her anymore and has sold her to someone else. She learns that she is getting sold to the summer court because they need her rare skill. But she thinks she doesn’t have a rare skill. They tell her that she is Mentalist Fae. She meets Nathan who she finds that she is attracted too. She learns that she has no say in the fae court. She must stop a war from happening. Will Virgie and Nathan go through with there attraction? Will she learn her skills to help the earth bound fae that the summer fae saved? Will she be able to stop the war from happening?
I look forward to reading the second book in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was great. There were some really unexpected things that happened that I never saw coming. I loved Vergie. She was a fairly straightforward character. I have to admit the first little bit of the book made me cringe and wonder exactly what the vamps were going to do. After that, it was just one surprise after the other.
There are a lot of characters to keep up with and several back stories that I can't wait to read more about. There is a ton going on that I just couldn't stop listening. The narrator does a great job with the voices and makes the already good story even better. Just bring on the next story!
5/5.
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
An amazing sequel to the Nocturnal Academy series!!!
Out of the frying pan and in to the fire... At least that seems to happen to Virgie. The vampire lord that bought her, informs her that she's to leave but tells her nothing else. Imagine her surprise when she ends up in the Fae Summer Court, a place she never expected to see. But not everything is as it seems. The King of the Summer Court wants to user her and her growing mental powers as a weapon against the Winter Court, where Onyx is soon to be crowned queen. Feeling between a rock and a hard place, she has to decide where her loyalties lie.
An excellent story, fast-paced, with lots of action, intrigue, suspense and a budding romance. Can't wait for the next book!
This is the story of Virgie and how she ends up in faeland and being taken is by the Summer Court. The story was interesting and entertaining although I spent most of it waiting for Virgie to loose her cool and scream at a few people. It was full of suspense, danger, waiting for betrayal I thought was around the corner for sure, and hoping Virgie would survive and find a home and friends where she would feel safe. It kept me reading and in suspense for what would happen next and what craziness would show up next. Just a great beginning to the series where the people are intense and crazy.
The authors are able to create a world that is full of imagination. The descriptive words build the world around the characters and pull you right into it. I felt like I was right there with Virgie, who I must admit I enjoyed hating in the first series. I was surprised by her choice over a few others but once I started reading, I was captivated. Maybe she’ll come out on top but it seems she’s going to have to deal with quite a bit before that happens. I enjoyed reading this story. The paranormal aspect only enhanced my enjoyment. The characters were fascinating and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Vergie escapes the vampire’s world and enters the Summer Court in the Fae realm. At first, everything seems wonderful. It’s beautiful there, she grows pretty wings, has an unbelievable room, great food and she will be taught to control her special powers. It doesn’t take long before she discovers, she’s traded one prison for another. She’s being watched as she develops her power and the king has plans for her. What will happen if she doesn’t do exactly as the king wishes? Will she ever be free?
This is a fantastic start to this new series I enjoyed the characters especially Virgie who is a vampires courtesan but he never touches her which confuses Virgie she thinks that she has done something wrong and she is scared that she is going to be sold to an abusive vampire but no she is sold to the Fae. The king wants Virgie to train to use her powers but all is not as it seems in Faeland so will Virgie find out the real reason why the king wants her to train?. Fantastic story I enjoyed it immensely and I recommend this book.
Magic, vampires, fae of the Summer and Winter Court, and a young fae, Virgie, who is swept from vampire courtesan to service of the Summer Court king in Faeland. This was a superb novel. No surprise as it’s written by two of my all-time fantasy authors (and I reads many tons of fantasy novels). It’s wonderful watching Virgie deal with everything, train and grow, with romance on the way to add some spice. Perfectly written and perfect fun, I highly recommend this book.
man you never disappoint this book was awesome well written and flowed so flawlessly, jumping right in I don't want to give any thing away but if you like romance ,secrets ,revenge and lil bit of confusion lol this book is for you Virgie's adventure is just beginning she is put in a unknowing battle of deceit twist and turns who she can trust is up for debate everyone has there own agenda for wanting her or should I say use her this book had me wanting more I cant wait for book 2.
