Mathias Toldstrup is a young artist with only vague ideas of what he wants to do with his life. An affair with a mysterious woman - and the subsequent discovery of a dead body in a Norwegian wood - changes everything.

Lars-Ole Ravn is minister of foreign affairs. He's pleased to know that the children of Kabul are once again flying kites in Kabul, but worries about the coming meeting between the president of Afghanistan and the anti-islamic journalist Mona Tariq.

Others have plans for this meeting

Morten Hesseldahl's novel Kites over Kabul (read in Danish) is the type of "spændingsroman", or thriller, that I would not read in English -- but that's one advantage of belonging to a book club, isn't it? Although the book is almost 10 years old, the topic of Middle Eastern assimilation in Denmark and the threat of international terror is still very current. It was difficult at first to keep track of who was who, and I understand that while the hardback edition had a list of characters, for som ...more

This book ends up being very confusing, due to it's many fast and ill indicated changes between characters. Often you'd be halfway down a page before realizing you were now reading it from someone else's perspective simply because there had been no indication of a change and because often characters were mentioned by nicknames in what seems to be an ill attempt at switching it up a bit. The book is also poorly written and it's attempts at action and suspense falls flat.

Specielt slutningen fuser ud, ingen aktion!
