The book brought me a new perspective of art and its relations with the artist and the appreciator. I already had some assumptions about the topics written here, so reading this made me become sure in them. I enjoyed the book from the begining because I related to the statements Carleton wrote in it. The artist is the one who has the ability to create something which by the appreciator can be felt and understood as a new beauty, in the way the artist himself saw it and understood it. But that beauty is not about visual, aesthetic beauty, it is the beauty of an idea, the beauty of thought, some new vision artist managed to understand, in a way nobody before him understood it, and it's up to him to transform it into a work of art. The appreciator is the one who has the opportunity to see (or hear),feel, and understand what he wasn't able to ever before. l also liked how the autor defined precisely who is an artist and broke down the difference between an artist and a painter. He also wrote about an universal artist, no matter if it's a musician, a painter, a writer, a sculptor,.. etc. I loved the book and I'd recommend it to everyone who wants to understand art on a deeper level.
