The Balanced Wealth Approach: Secrets to Living Long and Living Rich

Rate this book
What good is a seven-figure portfolio if you're six feet under? Why work forty years for a retirement that lasts only ten?

Between recessions, inflation, market fluctuations, and the advancing ages of the Boomers and Gen X, many Americans are concerned about their retirement savings and wealth management for their children and grandchildren. How much will I need to save? What investment vehicles are best? What will my income be after I stop working? Is it too late to start building generational wealth?

Those are all excellent questions, but none of the answers address your core values.
In The Balanced Wealth Approach , CFP® and wealth manager Tom Hine reframes the retirement discussion by emphasizing  healthcare  as well as  wealthcare . Tom invites readers to reconsider what living a rich life truly means.

Combining his four decades of experience in finance with his lifetime of passion for martial arts, health, and fitness, Tom challenges his clients and readers to make wellness their number-one investment. He shares the latest research and medical practices focused on longevity, provides tips for improving and tracking your health, and offers encouragement for mental healthcare and spiritual practice. The Balanced Wealth Approach is a lifestyle that ties financial wealth to overall well-being so you can live a long, healthy, prosperous life.

Think bigger with your wealth and your health, and set your sights on a vibrant, active, enriching life well into your nineties and beyond!

I think the concept of this book is great. If you Manage your wealth, you should also manage your health. The author makes the point clear that building wealth for retirement but not living through your retirement is pointless.
I do not recommend this book to anyone with a history of ED. He makes a lot of comments about his definition of health, referencing bmi and weight watchers.

Also, the line “I could be the outlier if five therapists say they believe my view is way off base. I play down my role as an advisor on anything other than money because the problem itself is more important than how seriously a client takes me.” This seems awfully arrogant to think you need five trained, certified professional therapists to disagree with you, the untrained health advisor.

Also, the constant references to karate were overkill.

A must read for anyone seeking a harmonious and abundant life after retirement...and now!

As a former Navy fighter pilot and current international airline captain, I have always valued health and balance in all aspects of life. “The Balanced Wealth Approach” by Tom Hine captures these principles beautifully, navigating the complex world of balancing life and work to enter retirement financially prosperous while maximizing health and personal well-being. Tom expertly combines his deep understanding of wealth management with valuable advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle both during the working years and into a fulfilling, prosperous retirement.

The Balanced Wealth Approach was a gift and I was excited to read it the day it arrived! It is EXCELLENT! As a Clinical Nutritionist, I was not aware of the prevalence of poor health among the elite. Too many miss out on enjoying the years for which they worked and saved. Mr. Hine, as a wealth manager, has great compassion for his clients and motivates them to prioritize their health, as they do their wealth. I pray his extended audience, through this writing, take these recommendations to heart so they can fully enjoy their lives IN OPTIMAL HEALTH! The author's own family experiences, as well as those of several clients, make it an enjoyable yet eye-opening read.

This incredible personal finance book makes the case for investing in one's health and wellness as intently as one invests in stocks and index funds. Reading the galleys of this book inspired me so much, I shared THE BALANCED WEALTH APPROACH with my fiendishly hard-working brother, who I'm afraid is on a fast-track to a stroke. (G-d forbid!)

The author has written this from his heart and seems very genuinely to want readers to — as he says — live long and live a TRULY rich life. I sat my brother down for a real conversation about what he believes it means to be rich...and said: "I want to see you walk your daughters and sons down the aisle at their weddings and I want you making Uncle jokes at my kids' weddings, please read this book and please stop driving yourself so hard!"

Then I quoted the author, asking: "what good is a seven-figure portfolio if you're six feet under?"

Want a good investment tip? Read THE BALANCED WEALTH APPROACH.
