I want you to work for me. You will wear the exact clothes I send you and you will do exactly what I ask of you...
This is an Age Gap, Ice Queen, Sapphic Romance between a CEO and her personal assistant. It is hot and steamy with a Happy Ever After.
Alice's life is a mess. She's lost her job and her girlfriend and she doesn't know how she will pay her rent next month.
She meets a much older wealthy stranger from a dating app for a hook up and the next day she receives a message from this stranger offering her a job. Alice will be the new personal assistant to the CEO Joanne Morgan. The only catch is that she has to wear the exact sexy clothes her new boss chooses for her while she's at work.
Alice finds herself tangled up in office games that turn her on more and more. Joanne Morgan is a stone cold Ice Queen, so why is Alice so into her? It is getting harder and harder to focus on work and Alice knows her boss doesn't do relationships.
Can Alice find a way to charm the Ice Queen CEO beyond the purely physical and get her own happy ever after?
This is the second book of the CEO series, which can be read independently.
Erm. I'm sure this author can find her target audience for this book but it isn't me. I mean, I like workplace, age-gap romances but I found the CEO character, Joanne, way too aggressive and predatory for my taste. Joanne offers her fuck buddy, Alice, a job as her personal assistant, and even though she states upfront that she doesn't sleep with employees, she is pretty much inappropriate the entire time and it's a lawsuit waiting to happen if Alice isn't interested. But Alice is interested in the power play and they end up having lots of sex.
It got better for me in the last quarter or so as Joanne kinda toned down by then and both of them start to acknowledge their feelings for one another.
This one was....problematic for me. The only reason I rounded it up to three stars was due to Abby Craden's narration.
While the first book in this series was sexy and fun, this one has major power imbalance/consent issues. I had to laugh each time the CEO character said she needed to be careful not to step over the line. Seriously?!? She jet-skied over it from the moment her one night stand walked into her office her first day on the job!
While the younger woman who became the CEO's personal assistant had been blown away by their one night together, she desperately needed a job, was about to get evicted, and had limited choices. What she was asked to do in her role as assistant was outrageous - and I'm not talking about office duties, of which she had very few. I don't care how attracted to her boss she was - it was too much. If it was a man behaving this way, I'd want him fired and ostracized.
Emily Hayes writes HOT compelling stories! Alice is at its end having been fired from her barista job, with her rent due on Friday. Max, her bestfriend talks her into a new dating ap, and she gets a message from a beautiful business woman. She accepts and meets Joanne. She's domineering and so HOT! She offers Alice a job as her assistant. This is an Ice Queen/age gap HOT story! 5 stars!!
Emily Hayes writes another fun CEO story. I am enjoying these books that can be read as stand-alone. They are quick, sexy, and passionate stories that have minimal angst. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Well Ms Hayes has once again produced an amazing story Joanne ice cold queen of her domain CEO who takes no crap from anyone is knocked sideways by Alice who she picked up from a dating website, From that point on her world is turned upside down. Ice queen has her heart melted and so much more.again if you have not read any Emily Hayes before then you are missing out!!!!!
Too fast-paced that it didn’t give us time to really fall in love with the characters.
Their dynamic is soooo problematic. I didn’t like Jo AT ALL. Her background did not, in any way, justify her shitty behavior especially in the beginning.
That last issue was so lame and poorly executed. It felt like it was put there to have some sort of “issue” before the end.
It felt like I was reading a wattpad novel.
So many loopholes. I resolved to suspend reality while reading but it just kept pushing and pushing.
Only redeeming quality is Alice, for some reason, likes it, then Max calling out Jo and the sex scenes were at least better than the first, though sometimes, especially at first, it made me uncomfortable a bit.
It's sad because I was really looking forward reading this series because I like age-gap romance or office romance, but only if done well and delicately. This wasn't it.
I finished it so I guess it is on me to consider it passable but it leaves me feeling so ick.
Thank goodness I read the book 3 first or I would have never made it through the series. Book 1 was disappointing but this was absolutely the worst of the 3. (I do not give under a 4 if I finished but if it wasn’t so short I probably would not have.)
There was zero character development except a bit of pre-story of the non-ceo on why she needed the job so terribly. I still know nothing about the ceo except she wants her PA to wear almost nothing to work and complain. The poor PA was afraid to walk 2 blocks in her demanded work clothes because they were so obviously revealing her enitire body to the city.
Well written erotica? Maybe. But I didn't know and feel blindsided.
Not that crazy of an Age gap really, this one only being like 15 years which was the same as my grandparents age gap and they had problems early on, but after a few years and after a few kids, they were accepted by both sides of their families and I feel like there was a lot missing from having a not-so-strong supportive role from the other characters. I was hoping a few characters from the first would show up in this and just make a quick cameo, but then I figured that was okay the way it was done.
I feel that the overt and over-the-top sexual harassment is not really needed for this story. Alice's desperation seems contrived. And Joanne's fear of being knocked from a being gazillionaire to the dumpsters by falling in love seems equally implausible. Also - I don't know if I can call a sex-crazed bitch of a CEO an ice-queen? I enjoy age-gap rich-poor and dubcon troupes. But this one just seems a bit far-fetched for me. I might try another one in the series since they seem to be well-loved by many other people.
I've read two books of the CEO Series. The CEO & The Ice Queen CEO were before this one. I like the romance and the sensuality of Emily's books and I'll be happy to read more such kind of office romance. As for Working for the CEO it's my pleasure to reread it twice. I like all characters of the CEO Series but Joanne+Alice is my fav kind of couple. To be a real bitch sometimes is not very bad to get happy. Many thanks to the author for the interesting way to write...😉
This book has my favorite theme, ice queen, age gap, work place romance and steamy hot sex! The author gave us a great fantasy, two beautiful women with drastic different background fall in love hard and fast, and have the courage to pursue their happily ever after. My only regret is that it is too short, I wish the author add more chapters, show us more of how the unlikely couple dealing with their conflicts and finally get together.
loved it ice queen melting, fuck buddy..... well you have to read it
How not to start a relationship where there should be none. No relationship was the deal! As ever it was exciting, breath, taking & brought together everything they wanted.
But it was both more than enough, but too much at the same-time. Read it in one sitting. Enjoy it.
This is the 2nd book of the CEO series and it is a bit extra than the 1st one in everything. Definitely isnt for everyone's taste, as it is a bit over the top sometimes, a bit erotica, a bit harsh, a bit too much in some areas. However, I read it as I am reading all Emily's Hayes books and I liked it for what it is. A non complicated, heavily sexually intense and sometimes a bit too much story.
"The elegant CEO, who was always perfectly dressed with perfect hair and perfect makeup, was standing in her apartment looking like a paint-covered toddler."
It was basically erotica. The plot was mediocre, with the best part being when Joanne paints Alice's walls for her as an apology. Nevertheless, it had a happy ending.
I have never read a book by Emily Hayes that I didn’t like. This one is no exception. Hot older woman who can be a bit of an ass. Younger woman who has nothing going right for her. It’s a match made in heaven.
I couldn't put it down. I live for older age gap Sapphic romance and Hayes is so good at writing these stories. Read it if you are a fan you won't be disappointed!!
Another great read from Emily. I enjoy all of her books. And this one does not disappoint. Alice's life is changed when she meets her Ice Queen Joanna. And the steamy scenes are hot.
I love this story with the age gap affair. The ice queen is afraid of love. The younger partner wanted love. After some angst it works out very well in the end.
Omg wow, what a beautiful love story. The main characters were incredible their chemistry was hot. The twists were epic, definitely a must-read congratulations
I've read a variety of emily's books. What I most enjoy is that I don't experience typos. And she develops the pace and blends it into a pleasant experience for the reader!
