Ben Hoffman needs a fake date for his family’s annual Halloween party. Despite being the youngest National Medal of the Arts winner in US history, his hippie mom is always on his case about adding something meaningful to his life, LOVE. So rather than endure another year of her mournful eyes, he’s decided to rent a date using the Holidates App. Except the joke’s on him because Jess Darling is a smart-mouthed, curly-haired, banging-bodied, free-spirit who firmly believes art is the eye of the beholder and that has very little to do with training. Her perspectives go against everything he learned studying art history at Oxford.
Things go from bad to worse when Ben and Jess are forced to share his childhood bedroom. He shouldn’t find her bohemian style attractive, or her glass-is-always-full-optimism delightful, when his own glass definitely needs a refill. Still, there is something in Jess that not only calls to him, but calms him, settles him. When the weekend is over, Ben isn’t so sure he’s been faking anything with Jess. In fact, he’s pretty certain he can’t imagine ever being done with her.

Lola West is the queen of sweet, smart, silly, sexy romance! She has a PhD in women's studies and a flair for the dramatic. She likes cotton candy, astronomy, kitten heels and small town hunks.
Lola is a pen name.
The minds behind Lola are just like you - everyday people living regular lives, happy to day dream about sexy men and the sassy women they love. LONG LIVE THE BOOK BOYFRIEND!
Another fantastic romance from Lola West! This is just the book to read this Halloween! Ben and Jess were wonderful together! I wasn’t sure at first if I would like Ben. He’s a different kind of person with strict rules and expectations, but give him a chance and I promise you will fall in love with him! All he needed was the right woman to break down his walls and help him become the best version of himself. Jess is that for him with her blunt honesty, charismatic personality, and artistic soul.
Ben and Jess meet when he hires her through the Holidates dating app to be his fake girlfriend to visit his parents. They are both artists with her being a photographer and him being a painter. He was so interesting because he doesn’t go with the creative flow or free spirit, everything he does is careful and calculated. Over the course of the weekend, things get really flirty, awkward, tense, before becoming extremely HOT! I really enjoyed the hottest Halloween haunted walk you will definitely ever read!! I loved how the story unfolded and it’s conclusion was beautiful and just perfect for these two! This is definitely a must read so grab yourself a copy today!
What an absolute pleasant surprise, y’all! Usually these themed, quick novellas are just “okay,” but I ended up loving this sweet, sassy, sexy little novella! Ben and Jess were absolutely adorable together. He was composed and stoic and she was wild and free. Even though it was SHORT, it was fulfilling.
So Ben puts out an ad for a date to go to his parent’s Halloween party. Jess is short on rent and desperately needs money. She’s a photographer and Ben is a famous artist who hates photography. There’s a bit of animosity in the beginning but Ben just can’t resist the shy but outgoing ball of fire that Jess is.
I also loved Ben’s parents, the spicy scenes, and that ending! It was almost too short but absolutely perfect for a Halloween novella.
Down on her funds, Jess accepts a “job” as the date of a stranger. Meeting at the airport, she recognizes a well-known painter as the man she’s to spend the weekend with. An artist, herself, she’s thrilled to meet him but knows he has a reputation as being a jerk. She figures she can put up with anything for a couple days. She really needs the money to pay her rent. Ben’s wealthy parents hold a big deal Halloween party every year for family and friends. Every year, his mom’s disappointed that Ben doesn’t bring home a date. This year, Ben is out to make her happy… and get her off his back. Neither stopped to think about the sleeping accommodations, though. Spicy, fun story in a spicy, fun series.
Short on cash to pay next month's rent, New York City-based photographer Jessica Darling decides to answer an ad on the Holidates app from a guy who needs a date for Halloween weekend on Martha's Vineyard. When she arrives at the airport, she's dismayed to discover that the man who hired her is none other than painter Ben Hoffman, the darling of the art world whose disdain for any form of artistic expression besides classical painting has become legendary. His rude behavior when they first meet only confirms her negative impression of him, but she desperately needs the money he's offering, so she gets on the plane. Ben, meanwhile, is tired of his free-spirited mother constantly being disappointed in him for not having a girlfriend, which is why he's gone to the trouble of hiring a fake one for her annual Halloween party. Jess is not what he expected; in fact, she sees him in a way few others ever have, and it makes him uncomfortable, especially because she's not afraid to tell him what she thinks. Could getting out of his comfort zone actually turn out to be a good thing?
I didn't think it was possible to combine the enemies-to-lovers and insta-love tropes, but IMO the author has managed to do so in this novella, and quite successfully. Even though their relationship moved quickly, there was a real sense that their feelings were based on an emotional connection, not just a physical one. That said, the steam was pretty great too. Ben turned out to be quite the dirty talker!
I very much enjoyed "Rent-a-Boo" and recommend it for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I look forward to whatever Lola West writes next.

This book went from maybe even -10 in the romance department to like 75 to 600 all in just a few pages. It was a fun and quick read, it was easy and enjoyable enough, but it wasn't that great to be honest. Yes, it's a short story, I understand the love has to be kinda insta, but engaged to be married after like knowing each other for a week, not realistic at all and not my cup of tea.
It has push pull, sexual tension, great banter, some really good spice and a great HEA with epilogue
Jess and Ben find that while they are opposites they are totally attracted to you each other.
Highly recommend if your looking for something short sweet and has the right kind of steam. Ben is pretty good at the dirty talk and has a little caveman bedroom vibe. Very hot!!
Cute, hot, and sweet! Fun little Halloween romp. Down on her luck Photographer Jessica Darling is in dire need of rent money and Benjamin Hoffman, artist extraordinaire and snob of her medium of art is in dire need of a girlfriend to take to his parents Halloween Party. Sparks fly when these two meet their match. Lines get blurred and soon both of them are wondering if this is still just a job or maybe something more. Pick up this sweet little quickie today! No tricks, all treats!
Such a cute Halloween read! Jess and Ben are the total opposites in character, but they do say ‘opposites attract!’ The banter between these two is hilarious.
Loved Hess and Ben's story. Ben needs to a date to take home to his family and Jess needs the money. An enemies to lovers feel with sweet Jess able to push past Ben's defenses.
This short story was a very fun read. The characters had personality and the story was believable. I truly enjoyed it and will certainly be checking out more of Lola West’s work.
Fun, steamy, and wonderful. Well written and easy to get caught up in. Great characters with tangible chemistry. Lola West is so good at fitting beautiful stories that feel genuine and natural into small packages.
Ben and Jess are complete opposites but seem to find a few things in common. The banter and laughs between these two along with the steam is fantastic!
