Even though America died, the American spirit lives on.

Fifty years after The Collapse, while the 7th Cavalry fights for its life in the old American Southwest, east of the Mississippi River the stirrings of exploration drive two men to head west across the ravaged landscape. Jase and Pard know that if remnants of American society survived in the hills of Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina, they had to live on elsewhere, too, and they set off on a journey to find a better life.

Accompanied by a select group of friends and family, they know hardships await. What they didn't plan on was that if the best of humanity was still out there somewhere, so was the worst.

shame about John Babb passing

Ohh the hills have Tabcoo,

Ohhh the Countryside got bandits,

Ohhhhh the east got some funny city folk.

Usually story’s set in the expanded universe of the TLB are short stories this is a whoop 340 pages that cover the life of a whole family who set out into the unknown to build a place where family can flourish. Do has we know in post-Collapse America enemies are abound but Allie’s wait to stare into the dark with you are wait has will.

The first 40 - 60 pages you don’t really fill like a LB type novel but it becomes a exploration type novel showing new areas that future novels thread into make it a big interest for fans to imagine what storylines will get next.

Good fun reading

First off, just me but I very seldom give a 5 star rating unless the book is exceptional.

Far different than I expected but still quite good. I think the NC team was lucky they made it without much worse experiences. But they did and other than than this dictator King something, are in very good shape.

I will say the bad guys were pretty dumb for most part, guess used to succeeding with force not brains. But they are in a great area and hope they can survive through the next book.
Thank you

nice addition to this series

This was a nice additional with a little bit of some things I have already read as a lead in. I liked the characters who were steady and consistent. Not as good as the core story but a good read.

This very good tale is true to and enriches the canon quite nicely. Farmers decide to add or supplant the original product line, tobacco, by going into the diesel/gasoline business. The trip to do so takes them many miles across several states with lots of confrontations and adventures.
