According to Lloyd Geering, the world we inhabit is largely a product of our own making. We supply its meaning. Thus "God," a central symbol of meaning, is entirely a human creation. In Tomorrow's God, Geering traces the collective "drift toward meaning" that gave rise to the various religions and explores the reasons they are now in decline. He argues that, for our own survival, we must consciously create new meaning for our lives and shows how the Christian tradition may lead toward a new world of meaning.

About the author

Sir Lloyd George Geering ONZ GNZM CBE is a New Zealand theologian who faced charges of heresy in 1967 for his controversial views. He considers Christian and Muslim fundamentalism to be "social evils". Geering is Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. He turned 100 in February 2018.

I cannot praise this book enough. It expresses so accurately, so succinctly, what I have for years and decades been vaguely thinking about the most profound questions of life, and it eruditely outlines the historic and cosmic context in which we find ourselves. A prophetic, provocative theology of God

Geering offers a completely unique and visionary concept of God while at the same time redefining the significance of the Christ event and Christianity. He weaves together a plethora of ideas from several noteworthy philosophers and theologians to support his thesis .

So happy to be back reading books that I love and authors that have opened my thinking. Read this book when it first came out. Glad to read it the second time. Discusses religion, theology, philosophy, meaning & purpose and the world we live in today. We must protect our world so that we can continue to survive.
