True Freedom: The Liberating Power of Prayer

Rate this book
This original approach to prayer shows how it leads us to the powerful freedom that is ours in Christ. Honorary National Day of Prayer chairman Oliver North illustrates the freeing effects of prayer through engaging stories and scriptural truths. Seven key points describe how prayer helps us escape disconnectedness, anxiety, and sin - and frees us to hear God's voice and to become what we were meant to be. With the powerful biblical concept of freedom in their minds and hearts, readers will come away motivated as never before to spend time with God in prayer.

Do you see prayer as a burden? Does it tie up your time? Take another look. Prayer may be your way out of captivity. Sharing his personal experiences and the engaging stories of others, LtCol Oliver L. North USMC (Ret.) uses scriptural truths to illustrate the powerful liberating effects of prayer.

As you escape isolation, deception, anxiety, and sin in your own life, you’ll find freedom to fulfill God’s great purpose for you.

Story Behind the Book

Oliver North opens with his personal testimony of coming to faith, a faith that begins with prayer. A personal relationship with Christ is the basis for all other aspects of prayer. The book will feature a series of stories illustrating the liberating benefits of prayer. The summary concludes that none of the other aspects of prayer are important without this personal relationship. The reader would be invited to enter into a relationship with Christ through prayer in the concluding chapter. The message is built upon seven key points, each of which connects and blends the powerful biblical concepts of freedom and prayer

This small, easy-to-read book is a powerhouse. Any reader could very easily read it in one day, and it's probably better to do so for the continuity of message. I read it years ago, but wanted to re-read the book in order to put it on my Goodreads list. Very glad I did! Most people know about God, with a few truly knowing God in obedient relationship. I'm guilty of this from time to time. This book encourages believers to look past the forms and functions of religion to know the One who created us and loves us more than we could ever fathom. Please read this book!

I read this during lunch (1 1/2 hours)

I was enthralled by the personal testimonies of faith and prayer. I will be giving this book away to a friend with the admonition that they do the same after reading it.
