Roald Dahl's take on the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood can be perceived as a rhyme of female empowerment. Little Red Riding Hood is not a damsel in destress needing the help of a male figure but an intelligent, powerful and resourceful girl who outsmarts the wolf who is trying to deceive her. This rhyme is part of the 'revolting rhymes' that can be found in The Roald Dahl Treasury. Children love these rhymes due to the fun, mischievous and unexpected twists Dahl adds.

Welke leerkracht kan de zin van de revolver en het slipje niet uit zijn mouw schudden?! 'Gruwelijke rijmen' heeft al menig klas doen schateren inclusief de leerkracht. Altijd een topper om toch een sprookje te behandelen in de bovenbouw, waarbij soms ook extra opdrachten worden gegeven in de vorm van sprookjes vergelijken, de functie van sprookjes te onderzoeken of ook zelf in de pen te klimmen om een bestaand verhaal smeuïger te maken.

Des te leuker dat Roald Dahls Roodkapje en de Wolf nu als prentenboek uitgekomen is. Leuk voor zwakke lezers in de bovenbouw, toneeluitvoeringen (scripts laten schrijven vanuit het verhaal!) en om gewoon weer lekker te lachen met de klas. En pak gelijk 'Gruwelijke rijmen' er ook weer bij...

Het bekende sprookje uit het boek Gruwelijke rijmen. Eén van mijn favorieten. Maar nu uitgegeven als een los prentenboek met nieuwe tekeningen van Adam Larkum.
Het blijft een heerlijk verhaal over de wolf die oma opeet en Roodkapje die hem daarna te grazen neemt.

An absolute stone-cold classic that makes for a pefect picture book on its own. Hopefully there will be more individual revolting rhymes picture books. The Three Little Pigs for instance? Which sees the return of a certain pistol toting heroine?😄😆

I borrowed this from the library ebook selection whilst i was looking for short stories to read. The story of Red Riding Hood is quite dark as it is (totally forgotten the story) however add Roald Dahl to it with his warped mind it gave it a funnier side. Quite enjoyed it but if i had read it as a child then i would be more tormented that i am now :)
