This book kind of reminds me of - for lack of a better comparison - a heart monitor with a screen that shows evenly spaced peaks and valleys: CRISIS...crisis averted...CRISIS...crisis averted...CRISIS...crisis averted...and so on and so forth throughout the entire story. Unfortunately this translates into repetitiveness to the point of being predictable. The suspense is there, but it never lasts for more than 10 pages. Granted, there is somewhat of a surprise in store at the very end of the book ...more

While Jacq is extremely knowledgeable about the time period, throughout all his books, all the characters are extremely formal. The characters have wants and dreams, but they speak so seriously. It would be nice to hear a person crack a joke. I sometimes feel like I'm reading Egyptian Shakespeare instead of a modern novel. I think this becomes the biggest criticism of his work, which is otherwise quite gorgeous and remarkable.

But there is a coin flip to this... what I love about his work is how

Another series from Christian Jacp. This series of for tells the story of the craftsmen and women of ancient egypt who designed and built the tombs for the kings and queens of egypt. They follow the main character Paneb from his first innitiation into the order as a young man and his subsequent rise within the society. A lot of insight to the stuggle for power, greed, and over human nature both good and bad. also a lot of action, as well as thoughts on the idea of power of nature on humanity as ...more

plus d'intrigues et de suspens que dans les 2 premiers volumes. Un peu à la manière de Columbo : on sait qui sont les méchants (sauf un qui reste dans l'ombre) et on se demande comment ils vont être démasqués ...

Cool plot, but it’s notorious that the author, besides of being a good Egyptologist, is a lustful man, cuz he describes a lot of explicit sexual scenes. Though it helps you know a lot of Egypt, it’s still filthy

Preferred the Ramses series but this wasn't bad - gives a nice feel for the tradesman class while the Ramses was obviously nobility skewed.

Christian Jacq is a French author and Egyptologist. He has written several novels about ancient Egypt, notably a five book suite about pharaoh Ramses II, a character whom Jacq admires greatly.

Jacq's interest in Egyptology began when he was thirteen, and read History of Ancient Egyptian Civilization by Jacques Pirenne. This inspired him to write his first novel. He first visited Egypt when he was s
