This book was recommended to me by a witchy friend, who wanted to give me an introduction to magick and witchcraft. And, as someone who knew next to nothing about witchcraft before this, I think this book is a delightful introduction.
I still am a bit of a sceptic (which is of no fault or a reflection of the book), so it may be that I am not the target audience. But, I still found this book helpful at breaking down the basics of witchcraft and magick, such as the history, definitions, examples of ingredients and spell work, and lots of practical advice for anyone who may find it enlightening. It has also introduced me to a few areas of witchcraft that I may employ in my own life, as it provides basic information on the whole spectrum of magick practices, and types of witches.
I appreciate how broad the strokes are in this book, and is very clear about not having to fit within a box when it comes to individual practice. I think this book could benefit a lot from bringing in more history, and perhaps more advice for where to source things such as ingredients and tools for practicing magick.
As a witch who values self care I wanted to like this book, but not only is it extremely shallow it also had some wierd misinformation and just crappy sections. Some of the sections also felt like they may have been written by an AI.
There's an entire section on identifying what type of witch you are. I suppose it might be useful for new witches learning terms, but I fundamentally disagree with the need to confine yourself to a single witch "type". Additionally, at least one type listed is completely wrong and other major branches of witchcraft are omitted.
It also has a section about Wicca that says, "Wicca is the fundamental religion and ideology of witchcraft" say what? Wicca is a totally valid, but there are so many fantastic witches out there who don't and have never practiced Wicca.
This book was perfect for me. I am starting over. Haven't been practicing for awhile now. I love how this book is organized and written. I basically highlighted the whole book. It covers the basics of spell craft nicely. Highly recommend it for people who work with affirmations, the moon, crystals, herbs and spices, spell jars and more. Enjoy!
As someone who has always been intrigued by witchcraft, I found this book to be both fascinating and informative. The author provides a thorough introduction to witchcraft and self-care and offers practical advice on how to incorporate both into daily life. Highly recommended!
Maybe for someone just starting their witchy journey this could be a great starting point for adding Self-care into your witchy practice. For me there were a few journal prompts I wrote down to use, but the rest of the book was just to general.
