While Mussolini delivers a speech up there in Europe, a modest inn in Brazil shows the life of several characters, intersecting their lives daily… and above them all, center stage: a teen girl called Clarissa, almost 14. Her parents live in the inner Brazil, so she’s staying with uncle Couto and aunt Eufrasina, the owners of the inn, in Porto Alegre.

The book is the description of this daily routine of these several characters. The saddest of them all: pianist Amaro, taking a dreamy life, becau

Unfortunately there is no way to make a review of this book in another language than Portuguese . There are words that describe certain feelings that only the Portuguese language has the ability to express ...

Inocente. Doce. Lindo.

The most difficult part in reading those books written by great authors is that I never feel completely empowered to draw a blunt and harsh opinion of my own. Whenever it happens that I come across a book that is supposed to be good and I ended up not enjoying it, I instantly feel like somehow it is my fault. Maybe I misunderstood the main point or I am just not used to this kind of mature literature. So those were some of the reasons I considered in order to excuse myself for disliking Erico Ve ...more

This is the first work of Érico Veríssimo and it is inserted in the Bildungsroman tradition, following the moral and psychological development of a young girl in the first ages of her adolescence. Despite some naivety and superficiality, the novel is interesting and some of its passages reveal the narrative talent that the author would later ripen.

Identifiquei-me com a protagoonistta.
