Filled with helpful tips, sage advice, and practical steps from outstanding historians, this pamphlet is a must-have resource for all graduate students about to begin the long and daunting road towards completing the PhD.
I was pleasantly surprised. Even though I am not a history student, there was a lot to be gained in reading this little book. Each chapter is brief, enjoyable, and direct. It doesn't cover everything, but what it doesn't cover is well-represented elsewhere. Instead, this text offers guiding principles for each phase of the process. Sometimes it was reassuring, and at other times it gave me new insights. Both are valuable outcomes for a PhD student.
