Rhyming lines seem to provide a lullaby as several creatures settle down for the night. The illustrations contains soft pastels and natural scenes as well as featuring cutouts so that readers can catch a glimpse of the next page in the background. The relationship between the adult animals and their young is gentle and caring, and readers will appreciate seeing how birds, squirrels, fireflies, and deer end their days and slow down the pace of life. This lovely picture book could be used as a bedtime story because of the melodic lines as well as a possible conversation starter about how a child's family closes out its day and settles in for the night. I've always felt there was such comfort, safety, and relaxation about being home for the evening with nothing left to do except take off work clothes and decompress.
