A Christian Historical Adventure set in Regency England with romance and a supernatural twist Part four in an epic-length serial novel
Beleaguered spies
Lady Wynwood’s team of spies are trying to heal from the physical and mental wounds recently dealt to them. However, their investigation into Apothecary Jack’s mysterious group has turned up only a few strange, disjointed clues, and the dangerous Root elixir continues to circulate in the London underbelly. It is only a matter of time before the Root is sold to Napoleon, which would give him overwhelming dominance in the war.
Sudden threats
Then Laura, Lady Wynwood, is unexpectedly attacked by a man she had trusted. Although Phoebe and her household staff manage to protect her, her life is now in danger and she must go into hiding.
Dangerous mysteries
Laura uncovers more secrets kept by her late husband that shed illumination on his enigmatic mistress, Bianca. In the meantime, the team follows the trail of Laura’s attacker, which might enable them to capture Apothecary Jack or his compatriot, the pale-eyed man.
All the while, they are unaware that the hunters have become the hunted.
PLEASE NOTE: Like the novels published in Jane Austen’s time, this is a novel in multiple parts. Each volume has a completed story arc, but this is NOT a stand-alone novel and ends on a cliffhanger.
Regency romance with Zondervan under her pen name, Camille Elliot, Camy writes Christian romantic suspense with Love Inspired Suspense as Camy Tang.

Camy continues her Christian Regency Romantic Adventure serial novel. Because this is a serial novel series, it has to be read in order of the books. Due to the author's health issues, there has been a gap between the last novel and the release of this serial. I truly appreciated the summaries of the previous novels that reminded us of previous events in the series.
This series is Regency at its best. Well developed characters, historically accurate descriptions of the period, lots of heart pounding action with twists and turns, a touch of romance, and a large dish of suspense. The connection, friendship, and caring of those within the group of Lady Wynwood's spies is developed so well. Then throw in a pinch of romance among the spies that makes this Regency suspense come to life. In turn, the evilness of those they oppose is cringeworthy. Add in a mysterious elixir that turns men into someone like the Hulk, and the outcome is a wonderful Regency, romance, suspense read that you can't put down. Then end it with a cliffhanger, and the reader is screaming "When is the next release?"!!
Another fantastic installment to this ongoing adventure! I was so excited to revisit these characters and their mission in Regency London once again. The first portion of the book felt a little slower to me, but the content was so good, and eventually picked up to a pace that ultimately raced across the pages to a cliff-hanger ending. I can't wait to read Book 5!!
[I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to provide a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.]
Hopefully you’ve read the first 3 volumes of this series before you get to this one. In case you’re not aware, this is part of an epic-length serial novel, so you really need to read in order. Also, each volume ends with a cliffhanger!
As with the earlier volumes, I had a hard time putting this one down. There’s an interesting mix of slow development of relationships and personal growth of the characters at the same time as the characters are involved in events and situations full of action, chaos, plot twists and suspense. Some readers may not like such a mix, but I have enjoyed it. Elliot does a great job of portraying followers of Christ who are trying to live out their faith in very stressful and chaotic situations, and/or dealing with dysfunctional family members.
I’m ready for the next book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I usually don’t like books with a cliffhanger but this series is worth every bit of the wait. It left off with a twist I never saw coming. As in previous books in this series there is plenty of heart pounding action, strong bonds of friendship, and hints of budding romance built around deep, well rounded characters. The premise of a root elixir giving men super human strength and a group of spies determined to stop them is new and refreshing. Unlike any other regency novel I’ve read. I love this book and recommend the previous three books plus two prequels to introduce you to some of the characters.
This book is good with twists and intriguing happenings. The details can get a bit on the gore side. With long chapters makes for a rather long read, I get side tracked easily and need a fast grab em read
I really enjoy this author's historical romance novels!
Thanks to the author for providing this book for my honest review!
This is the fourth volume in the Lady Wynwood’s Spies serial novel. Because of the format the author has chosen, I would highly recommend reading from the beginning of the series to understand the complex events that occur within these pages.
This is an action-packed installment—there seemed to be more combat than in previous volumes, but the author does a good job of conveying action and even violence without getting graphic, which I appreciated.
I also really liked the thread of forgiveness. Phoebe has much to overcome in her feelings toward a family member who repeatedly betrays her. Anyone could understand her desire to hold a grudge and cut this person from her life completely, especially as he shows no willingness to change. The honest struggle that many Christians face was difficult to read at times, but well-done and realistic.
I look forward to reading the next volumes of this series and think that those who enjoy complex stories with multiple characters, subplots, and lots of action would also like this book; I recommend it for older teens and up.
I received a review copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are both honest and my own.
What a great new installment to this historical regency serial. Due to unforeseen health issues, readers had to wait quit a long time to see what is happening in this crazy regency world.
I enjoyed my time back with Lady Lynwood, Phoebe, Uncle Sol, and the spies. The historical settings are very well written, and the added poison element is adds a unique and speculative feel.
There was character growth, delving deeper in characters' past, danger, plans to execute and a betrayal no one was expecting, which ended this book on a Cliffhanger and making readers wanting the next installment now! And luckily per communication from the author, should be within a month after the release of Betrayer.
Each book in this series ends in a cliffhanger, so you need to read each book in order. The first book is currently $0.99 if you want to get into this series.

Love, love, LOVE this Regency series with its blend of suspense and supernatural/speculative, strong and smart (but very human) characters (and the women's intelligence doesn't make the men stupid by comparison). Be aware, however, that once you start, you're in for the long haul ... but IMHO, it's a very worthwhile commitment. (I've read up through #5 at this point.) Camille Elliot has become a must-read for me!
If you can read the books in this series without much time in between, it would help. I read too many other books after the previous book (Aggressor) so it took me quite a while to reacquainted myself with the recurring characters and how they relate to the stories. I do remember there being a lot of action. Like Regency/gangsters/The Hulk combination.
The characters! Amazing good guys who were like an English CIA, and amazing bad guys who were really wicked, producing super human men for nefarious reasons.
Lady Winwood, her niece, Phoebe, and two other women were covertly part of the good guy group combatting the drug producing villains. Oh, and two children, prior street urchins Lady Winwood took in had amazing talents with knives and abilities to slip around unnoticed.
As this was a cliffhanger I won’t be waiting so long to start the next book, Prisoner.
Oh…the title? You will be shocked at who the betrayer is. Didn’t expect that one.
We need to remember that God is in control and directing everything around us and trust Him.
This serial story is sure to grab your attention and not let go. It was good to meet the principal characters again and get to know them better. There are plenty of underlying emotions to affect the ability to be observant and ready for action. Learning how to manage those feelings becomes a stumbling block for some. Attacks come unexpectedly so being ready is paramount. The cliffhanger at the end puts the reader in a prime position to be ready for the next installment.
An early ebook of this Christian historical adventure was received through the author. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
While still an interesting read, I am very disappointed in how slow the story is and yet another cliffhanger. I like Camille’s books in general but I wish that she wouldn’t have them drag out so much, I also wish that she would finish The Gentleman’s Quartet series soon.
Betrayer is yet another great episode of the entertaining Christian regency series Lady Wynwood’s Spies. I have enjoyed all four books and am looking forward to reading book 5. The characters are well developed and the storyline is full of surprises and conflicts. I highly recommend the series, enjoy!
Thank you for this intriguing story and the participation of Solomon's team. I enjoyed Phoebe and Keriah being schooled in defense techniques. I look forward to Vol. 5.
I'm tired of the series. They're long and end with cliffhangers. I might've liked it better if I hadn't listened to the bad AI-read audiobook, but I think I'm done either way.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
Betrayer is the fourth installment of the Lady Wynwood’s Spies series. As before, you need to have read the first three books, as it’s a continuous story. I did appreciate the recaps of the first three to help remind me of the story so far, given I have the memory of a goldfish, and it has been a year or so since the publication of volume three (something Elliot addresses a bit in the author note at the end).
There’s a great balance of interpersonal relationships and pulse-pounding intrigue, meaning there’s almost always something happening. It’s delightful to get more updates on the relationships between Sol and Laura, or Michael and Phoebe, among others, alongside their current efforts to stop the Root from getting into the wrong hands, as well as to root out a threat to Laura’s life,
This book is a lot longer than prior installments, but with so much going on, it’s easy not to notice the length. It’s consistently engaging, even in the quieter moments.
This is another solid installment in the series, and continues to make me excited to return to it. While the episodic format can be hit-or-miss for many, if you don’t personally mind it, and you enjoy historical romantic suspense with a dash of the paranormal, I continue to recommend checking this series out.
Betrayer by Camille Elliot Lady Wynwood’s Spies Series Book Four The saga continues with our group of spies. Phoebe Sauber and Keriah Gardinier have been training in ways to fight better. But, as women, they have to use more than their strength. Lady Wynwood, Laura, struggles with telling Sol one secret from her past that she’s held back from him. Not as easy as it sounds since she doesn’t want to lose his friendship. Mr. Colton-Jones, Michael, is living with a death sentence. The girls have kept him alive by giving him root every few days, but he knows that can’t last forever. It has him growing closer to God. Mr. Drydale, Sol, has realized he missed a crucial person in the past as being more important than he’d thought, and it has him doubting himself. A fast-paced story that had my heart beating fast as I turned the pages, feeling and seeing all around me as if I were part of it. I love all the different POVs and the unique characters. Suspense, a fantastic story, and a couple of underlying romances have me anxious for the next volume the minute I finish one. Each volume does end on a cliffhanger. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
This is the fourth book in the Lady Wynwood’s Spies series, so you will need to read the other three books before this one since it a continuation of the story. I loved reading this Regency spy story as we learn more about the characters, their struggles, their faith, and the bravery of each of the people who make up Lady Wynwood and the Ramparts’ network. How far will they have to go to stop evil?
The action, secrets, villains, plot twists, and budding romances of several of the characters make this a terrific story and one that leaves you wanting to read book five right away. I am eagerly anticipating the next story!
I received an electronic copy of the book to review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I have loved all books in this series and missed it when it stopped for a year. I usually don’t like books with a cliffhanger but this series is worth every bit of the wait. It left off with a twist I never saw coming. As in previous books in this series there is plenty of heart pounding action, strong bonds of friendship, and hints of budding romance built around deep, well rounded characters. The premise of the book is new and refreshing, unlike any other regency novel I’ve read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
