A secret identity mixed in with forced proximity on top of red-hot chemistry? What could go wrong?
The Black Knights are back and better than ever!
FBI agent Grace Beacham is on the run. After an operation to bring down a Russian disinformation campaign goes sideways and ends in her partner’s death, the Kremlin has sent its most notorious assassin to kill her. Not knowing who to trust inside the Bureau, Grace is forced to call on the one man who might be able to save her. The one man she hasn’t been able to forget.
BKI operative Hunter Jackson walked away from Grace Beacham three years ago. And he hasn’t looked back. But when his cell phone suddenly jangles to life with Grace on the other end begging for his help, he doesn’t hesitate to ride to her rescue.
Grace is no stranger to men like Hunter. Men who are devastatingly attractive and in love with their perilous professions and no-strings-attached lifestyles. As the two of them go off-grid to uncover the truth behind what happened on her last assignment, she fears her life might not be the only thing on the line. With Hunter, her heart could be in danger too.

The Organization This is the first book in Ms. Walker's reboot of her former Black Knights Inc. series. BKI is an independent government defense contractor that takes on the nasty tasks other contractors aren't allowed to touch. Their cover is a custom motorcycle shop on Goose Island in Chicago, IL. In prior books, only the POTUS and Chief of Staff knew about its existence.
I enjoyed reading about the secret tunnel again that runs under the Chicago River and provides an escape route from the back of BKI's main building. This tunnel was used in a couple of the prior books and I thought it was cool. Another fun fact is that "Peanut", the tomcat and BKI mascot made a reappearance and is still gaining weight and being ornery. 😊
The Characters Grace Beacham, the FMC, is an FBI agent who is investigating an organization believed to be funded by the Russian government. When she finds what she believes is a legitimate connection between an American traitor and this group, she's set up by the enemy for the murder of her partner. And becomes the FBI's number one suspect. Not knowing who she can trust within the FBI, she reaches out to Hunter Jackson (MMC) for help. They met three years prior but lost contact after the case he helped her with concluded. She kept his phone number.
Hunter Jackson is about 35 years old and a former Green Beret. He grew up poor and had lousy parents who cared more about their hooch than their son. When he became of age he immediately signed up for military service. Hunter is a good man but he has his issues. And Grace has her own problems with self esteem even though she's an accomplished agent.
Two other characters are introduced that aid Hunter and Grace in clearing her name and getting the bad guys. One is Sam Harwood, another BKI operative, and Hannah Blue - a 29 year old nocturnal DOD cyber specialist. Sam, 34 calls her "Hurricane Hannah" and has known her since he was in high school and dated her older sister. The reader learns that she's had a crush on Sam since she was 13 years old.
Lastly, a few other characters (besides Peanut) from the prior books make an appearance so it was good to read about them again. The main ones are Becky and "Boss" Frank Knight. He's no longer the head of the organization as this has fallen to Eliza Meadows, the daughter of the current Chief of Staff. (Becky and Frank's story is told in the second book from the original series "In Rides Trouble").
The Story The author created a story with the premise being how much Americans seem to believe and rely on everything that is reported on the internet by different news and political organizations. The fictional enemies in the story created sites to disseminate inflammatory and false information so American citizens would rise up and protest violently at different functions around the country. Are there American citizens who truly believe everything they read on the internet? Probably. Is the internet used for political and monetary gain by unscrupulous as well as legitimate organizations? Definitely. Scams are constantly being revealed where citizens have been taken advantage of monetarily, physically harmed, and other forms of "trafficking".
Using the above explained propaganda, the FMC closes in on a "troll farm" established for and paid by the Kremlin. Her partner is killed by a notorious assassin called "Orpheus" and she escapes from their stakeout location without ever seeing the killer. Hunter rescues her and the remainder of the book focuses on hiding Grace from the FBI as well as the assassin, finding the government mole (or traitor), setting up Sam and Hannah's story, and giving the reader too many details regarding Hunter and Grace's physical relationship.
Final Thoughts This book reads like the author has a political axe to grind. She did her research on the American troops' withdrawal from Afghanistan and makes her position clear on how she felt about that through Hunter's character. Which is an author's right (write?) to do. With the exception of all the chapters devoted to Hunter and Grace's graphically written intimacy scenes, this reader found the writing harsh and rough. As though the author was clearly angry and venting. I don't recall this much angst (or sex) in her prior books.
Rating So glad this was a library book and not one I purchased. The few books from her original series that I read were also from the library or Libby app. So why only one star? There was WAY too much sex that was unnecessary and didn't add to the story. It only made me cringe and skim several pages. Lastly, historical fiction provides "history" as a background for the story. Authors who don't respect keeping other things "fictional" don't gain my respect.
🪁 - 1/5 stars 🪁 - Bingo box #12 (One MC is officer of law vs other MC is a suspect.) 🪁 - 14/100 🪁 - Graphic violence and sex 🪁 - F-word used 38 times. 🪁 - Non-fictional legitimate organization denigrated by the author.
Ms. Walker states in her "Author's Note" that she believes "the pen is mightier than the sword" and "... in simpler terms, 'words matter'." She's correct. But another thing that's just as strong as the pen, is the pocketbook.
I was/am a big fan of HelenKay Dimon Harlequin Intrigue suspense romances (especially her Corcoran Series) since I was a teen because no one writes them like her! Her books had an equal amount of romance as it did suspense. She always incorporates humor, loveable characters that ooze chemistry, Alpha Heroes that fall hard & fast, kick as heroines who are no wilting flowers and so much more. In this one, it started good but slowly went downhill page by page. Why you ask? Well, it had the humor & camaraderie I wanted but that’s about it.
The suspense fell flat and the characters & romance went downhill pretty fast because it was too “insta” for me. Since it’s a 2nd chance story, everything literally happens in one single day. How does one fall in love in a day & live HEA?
Story was that 3 years prior, heroine (Grace 30) who is an FBI agent had just come off a nasty divorce and Hero (Hunter 34) who is part of an elite secret team of independent government contractors and a former marine, came to her rescue to help her with a case. They had immediate sparks & chemistry and supposedly fell for one another but they only shared a kiss before parting ways. He leaves her his card though to call him if she ever needs him.
During the separation, he f***s around with many OW (he has one supposedly in many ports/states whom he gets together for booty calls when he’s horny) all while not being able to forget heroine. Lol. She of course is frozen.
Then in the present, she comes across some information where she learns Americans are betraying their country and someone in high government level has hired a Russian killer to off her. So she runs to Hero for help and any bad-ass heroine we may have had in the first few pages goes downhill because suddenly she is a helpless twit of wall flower with self-esteem issues (and big ass & boobs apparently).
Then we also have another couple’s story/romance going on at same time which is Hunter’s colleague (Sam) and his ex-HS girlfriend’s kid sister (Hannah) which I assume will be up next. Sam & Hannah pretty much dominated the story and also took away from any developing relationship the main MCs could have had. Why do authors do that for Pete’s sake?
Another aspect to this story is that Author has incorporated a lot of political real life happenings in today’s world which is normally a pet peeve of mine as I don’t want anybody shoving down my throat their own personal political & religions opinions in my fictional romances. However, since those of us who are “sane” and don’t buy into the Trump/Republicans craziness and base our beliefs on hard truths and not word of mouth of psychos, I don’t think her views will offend you as it comes out of today’s headlines of what is happening here in the US and Internationally. For instance, author talks about how Russia spreads propaganda and a false narrative in social media to sprout violence & domestic unrest, uses Americans to spy & betray their country and corrupt politicians that are after their own greed & agendas then the good of the country. All of it true BTW in today’s headlines but I can see how some who believe in the Trump/Republican Kool-Aid may be offended.
As for the mystery, I read better (HelenKay again). There’s also no HEA by the way. It is left as HFN with no epilogue into the future which pissed me off since I spent 4 hours of my precious sleeping time to finish this thing and neither couple gets a HEA? Uhm, NO people! How rude!
At least it had humor which I enjoyed but I definitely will NOT be reading Sam & Hannah’s story next which is not only icky & bat-shit crazy, but also has Hannah constantly flirting & coming on to Sam while he always pushes her away and thinks of her as his kid sister-in-law (he never married or gotten engaged to the ex). And the way he thought of & described his time with his ex/her sister was a No-No for me. Though I do like their humor & individual personalities, I hate them as a couple. They just don’t work.
Sheesh! I SOOOO miss HelenKay Dimond’s HP's books. *sigh*
Aloud he told Sam, “Fuck you.” “Not even on your birthday,” Sam deadpanned. “Besides, I wouldn’t know what to do with your teeny, tiny Tic Tac testis and itty, bitty micro-peen. I mean, how do you manage to keep the ladies coming back for more? Do you always do it in the dark so they can’t see what they’re dealing with?” Hunter shook his head. “See, that would be funny except you know it’s not true. You’ve seen what I’m packing. That time in Karachi?” Sam shuddered. “Don’t remind me. I dunno which was worse. That we had a deathstalker scorpion living under our bathroom sink? Or that when you found him, you ran out of there buck naked and screaming your head off? I still have nightmares.” “About the scorpion?” “About your candy stick and giggleberries bouncing six inches from my face.” “Ah. I understand.” Hunter nodded solemnly. “There’s that old saying about comparison being the thief of joy, right?” He clapped a commiserating hand on Sam’s shoulder. “I hate that I burst your bubble of self-delusion. But if you’re really worried about it, I’ve heard there’s some surgical options. A silicone implant? Maybe a fat transfer? Or you could even—” “Well, look at you,” Sam cut him off, “lowering yourself to aspersions about the size of my willy. What gives? When it comes to being a weapons-grade dingus, you usually leave that to me or Fisher.
----
“Oh, thank god,” she breathed when he cut the engine. “Ten more minutes and I might’ve pulled a Harry to your Lloyd.” “Huh?” “You know.” She made a face as the morning sun peeked through the skyscrapers to the east, turning the sky overhead pink and gold. “Dumb and Dumber? The motor scooter scene? Come on, you must’ve seen it. It’s a cult classic.” “Is this your not-so-subtle way of telling me you need to pee?” Her delicious-looking mouth formed a moue. “Pee is an understatement. What I need to do will give Niagara Falls a run for its money.” “Rafer!” He called to the giant ginger manning the guardhouse. “Open sesame, man! We got a woman who desperately needs to hit the head!”
Christopher Cross’s “Sailing” crooned from the guardhouse when Rafer slid open the little window. “Everything copacetic?” He hit the switch that had the iron gates clanging open. “It’s all gravy, man.” Hunter shot him a salute before cranking over Canteen Green’s engine. -----
“As an independent defense contractor, it’s not like you can go around posting on social media. But you should know, the fact I couldn’t find anything on you? Not even a picture of some drunken high school shenanigans preserved on MySpace or a dumbass Vine Video showing you and your teenage friends skateboarding into a city park pond? That’s creepy. In this day and age, not being Google-able is the equivalent of sporting a porn stache while wearing a trench coat and walking around a playground.”
----
"Seriously.” Her brows pinched together. “Who are you people? “I’m Batman,” Sam said. “This”—he gestured to Hunter—“is Robin.” Hunter scoffed. “If anyone’s the sidekick, it’s you.” “Whatever you gotta tell yourself to be able to sleep at night.” Sam’s shrug displayed the height of unconcern. “You realize your attempts at evasion don’t work when you both give the same Batman”—Grace made finger quotes—“response, right?”
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Back in Black introduces fans to new members of the covert organisation Black Knights. I must say it was fun returning to this world where danger, action, suspense, humour and romance reign.
In this instalment, we meet FBI agent Grace Beacham and BKI operative Hunter Jackson. From the very beginning, readers are made aware that Grace and Hunter knew each other in the past, but haven't been in contact with each other for the past three years. They shared a moment then, however, but uncertainties kept them apart. Now Grace faces a dangerous situation and the one person she can count on for help is Hunter. Soon both were on the run not only from the FBI but also from the Russian assassin tasked to put an end to Grace's life.
Back in Black delivered as one has come to expect from Walker. Fast-paced and nail-biting, be prepared to pull an all-nighter with this one.
The portrayal of Grace and Hunter added depth to the story. Both were strong individuals who had experience pain in the past. Of the two, Hunter's past was the most heartbreaking. So despite how he felt about Grace, feelings of inadequacies plagued him. A few of the characters from the previous series made cameo appearances. It was lovely catching up with them and their families. Readers also get a glimpse of the couple whom will feature in the second book.
The story featured more than one villain, however not all were dealt with. The one pulling the strings, known as Bishop, is waiting in the wings to continue his path of destruction. So while Grace no longer faced a dangerous situation, the Black Knights' job is far from over.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads. I have read a few of the original Black Knights and now I need to go back and read the rest of that series. Grace Beacham is an FBI agent and after her partner is killed, she is the one that her fellow agents are after for his murder. While on the run, she is trying to figure out who could help her and comes up with one name. That name is Hunter Jackson, a BKI operative who walked away from her three years ago. Once Grace explains what is going on, Hunter has no problem bringing in the BKI team to help her out. While on the run, there will be feelings they need to deal with or will they forget them altogether? I really enjoyed this story. It was filled with suspense and intrigue from the very beginning and will keep you guessing who was behind the killing of Grace's partner and why they are after her. I can not wait for more and I highly recommend this one and I hope you enjoy it too. Mary at Wicked Reads
The Black Knights were a fun series, so I'm glad it's back with new people still working to save the world.
Grace and Hunter were interesting with their past and with Grace knowing Hunter would help her even though it's been years. It was fun to see them deal with the attraction between themselves, while on the run and figuring out who was after Grace. It took help from the Black Knights and a special friend to figure things out and boy...was the deception deep. It was great when Grace was cleared and when Hunter finally got his head out of his ass and went to see Grace. This was the ending they both needed and wanted.
On a side note...Hannah and Sam...that one is going to be very interesting. Wonder how long it will take him to clue in on the candy???
It was great coming back to the BKI world! We have a new set of guys working at Black Knights Inc, but we got glimpses of the original people I fell in love with. This was Hunter and Grace's story and it was so good. I loved that Grace wasn't some shy wall flower. She was brave and smart. And Hunter was such a good guy. Julie Ann Walker does a great job balancing action and swoon. I read this in one sitting and can't wait for the next book!
Series: Black Knights Inc: Reloaded #1 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
The Black Knight Inc boys are back and are ready for more dangerous missions! When FBI Agent Grace Beachum finds herself being framed for her partner's murder and being targeted by a Russian assassin she calls the only man who might be able to save her, BKI operative Hunter Jackson. It may have been three years since they last saw each other but their attraction hasn’t faded and now they can’t ignore it.
This book introduces us to two members of the new Black Knight Inc. black ops group, Hunter Jackson and Samuel Haywood. This book focuses on Hunter but we do get to see a few chapters about Sam, who will be the focus of the next book. Hunter is a quiet and closed off member of BKI. His childhood was terrible and it caused him to keep people at a distance but around Grace we see him tearing down those boundaries and letting her see the real Hunter. Hunter was a character that I instantly liked and I think he was a great introduction for this new spin-off series.
Grace was a sassy, smart, and capable woman who I never knew what was going to say. She was definitely a unique character who kept me guessing and I liked her a lot. Grace and Hunter’s relationship was intense and fast paced. The attraction they felt for each other three years before has exploded and now they can’t keep their hands off each other. This was a fast paced relationship that was filled with a lot of emotion and danger.
The danger in this one revolves around Russian propaganda and their influence on the US. It was a very interesting topic because it is something that happens in real life. It will be interesting to see what happens next with Kerebus and this propaganda, which I assume will be the focus of the next book since Sam and Hannah were the ones who dealt with Kerebus.
Overall, this was a great start to a spin-off series. While we only got to meet two of the men of the new BKI I still liked them and look forward to getting to know them more. Also I love that we get to see the older couples helping the men and can’t wait to see how their lives have changed.
CW: death of a coworker; misogyny from coworker mentioned; child neglect and time in foster care recounted; torture and death of friends;
The Black Knights are back, baby!! With new members to boot!
Major Hunter Jackson, former Green Beret, works as an operative for Black Knights Inc. He receives a startling phone call from Grace, a woman who has fueled his fantasies for the past three years. When she asks for help, Hunter drops everything and races to her rescue. He and his BKI comrade decide to assist Grace in evading the infamous assassin Orpheus. Can Hunter neutralize Orpheus? Or will he lose more than just his heart?
FBI agent Grace Beacham finds herself the latest target of a ruthless Kremlin assassin. When the Bureau believes she killed her partner, Grace calls the one person she can trust. She never forgotten Hunter or the incredible moment they shared three years prior. Now Grace must depend on him and BKI long enough to clear her name. Can Grace survive her ordeal? But at what cost? Hunter tugged on my heartstrings. He did not have a very good childhood. I like how Hunter refused to follow in his parents’ footsteps. Their mistakes and vices became life lessons for him, especially drinking. I related with that because my father was an alcoholic (mean one), and he is the reason I don’t drink.
I found myself identifying with Grace. I like how she did not have a positive body image of herself. It made Grace relatable (because I suffer from the same thing).
BACK IN BLACK is the first book in Julie Ann Walker’s newest romantic suspense series, BLACK KNIGHTS INC: RELOADED, a spinoff from her popular BLACK KNIGHTS INC books. It is not necessary to read the first series before this one. However, I would strongly advise against that! The prior twelve-book series introduces how (and why) Black Knight Inc got started. It also shows the many trials and hiccups the organization had endured during its heyday. Last, but not least, is the unforgettable characters.
I never realized just how much I missed the BKI crew until this book. Boss and Becky (the couple from IN RIDES TROUBLE) make frequent appearances throughout the story, which makes sense because they play a vital role in Black Knight Inc’s creation. Sadly, Dan “The Man” ( TOO HARD TO HANDLE) and my main man Ozzie (WILD RIDE) are mentioned. I seriously hope (hint hint) Ozzie makes an appearance in the next book! I got to have my Ozzie fix! Also, we cannot forget Peanut! The shop’s feline mascot!
There is one other aspect I love about Julie Ann Walker’s books. I like how she sets up the next couple in the background of the current one. I cannot wait for Hannah and Sam’s book. Hannah had me howling with laughter! Hands down, she is my new favorite with the new BKI cast! I also love her interaction with her bestie Cesar!
Julie Ann Walker returns to her Black Knights, INC series with this second installment. I did not read the original Black Knights, Inc series and I am vowing to go back to see just what I was missing. This set of book opens with the story of Hunter Jackson and Grace Beacham coming back together after two years. They worked together on a case and had an intense connection, but instead of acting on those feelings went their separate ways.
Grace is in trouble and calls Hunter, and he doesn’t hesitate at jumping to help her. But this time, neither one is willing to dismiss their feelings. Julie Ann Walker speeds this book along in a quick timeline turnaround but doesn’t not feel rushed. There is something happening on page from page one to the very last while overlapping this storyline with the upcoming book. We meet the rest of Hunter’s team as well as a computer hacker from one of his teammates past, but you need to read the story to get the true nuances of their interaction.
Hunter is a man who believes that he is unworthy of the love from Grace, but Grace shows him that no matter what he is worthy of it all. From page one to the end, this story moves at a brisk pace, but it works well and there are no disjointed moments. The Black Knights world is intriguing and fun. There is not stop action and the flow of all the characters is perfection. These stories will need to be read in order because of the flow of the stories but they are worth the time.
OMG, it’s so good to be back in the Black Knights Inc headquarters with the new team of special operators🤩 Hunter is back at the headquarters with Sam when he receives a call from Grace asking for help. They jump on their bikes and race to her location. Grace is an FBI Agent but is calling in the one man she knows can help her. Grace has never forgotten Hunter since they first meet three years prior and she now doubts she ever will😍
Loved the glimpses of the OG Knights and loved Grace and Hunter and their backstories❤️🩹 I do want to know more about Hannah and Sam, so I’m hoping their story is next…but I will wait patiently for that discovery❣️ I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review.
Back in Black (Black Knights Inc: Reloaded, #1) by Julie Ann Walker 4 stars M/F Action romance I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Grace is a FBI agent who has found herself entangled in a conspiracy. With not knowing who to trust, she calls the one person from her past she has never forgotten. Hunter.
Hunter is an alpha male who loves his job, but has always wondered what might have been with the beauty from before.
These two will have to outsmart an assassin, a government official and fight for both their lives and love.
I really enjoyed the heroine and the hero - they are both strong in their own way and bring out the best in each other. Their friends are fantastic and I can't wait for more.
I was both happy and a little apprehensive when I learned there would be new books in The Black Knights series. Three new books with all new characters along with the OGs.
I am glad to say I loved the book and was glad to be back in the BKI world. Cannot wait for the next book.
The Black Knights are back with a vengeance. A new crew along with all our old favorites in the background. Laugh out loud fun and action out the wazoo. Grace is a FBI agent being framed for murder. She’s on the run and in need of help from an old colleague.
Hunter has had a thing for Grace so when the call he jumps to come to the rescue.
“What am I seeing?” Sam pulled off his helmet. “Is that…? Are you smiling?” Hunter was quick to wipe his expression clean. “Nah. Just some sort of facial spasm.”
As always there is a secondary story between Sam and Hannah and boy is that one gonna be a trip. That woman is crazy!!
Bada bing, bada boom. Neat as you please.
I’m so glad for this series spinoff. The org has always been one of my favorites.
It is not what I expected. I was expecting a spy/FBI/bad guy whodunnit with a side love story. It was actually a romance/somewhat smutty book with a side whodunnit story, which I'm not a fan of. I didn't want to rate it poorly just bc it isn't my favorite genre.
I couldn't contain my excitement when I discovered that Black Knights Inc were making a return, even with a next generation and not the OG!
We're back in the speciality bike shop that's akin to Batman's cave as our feisty FBI heroine works alongside those of BKI to solve a deadly mystery.
It's was great to see another kicka$$ female who, although in need of some help, is a strong capable woman who is able to look after herself and others.
Hunter and Grace's relationship develops as they work together and there are cameo roles from Peanut and Becky as well as Boss.
Expect some moments of shock, awe and seriously intense moments as our main characters fund their way to HEA.
Rest assured though, one of the most interesting parts of Back in Black is the introduction of the 'new kids on the block' and the anticipation of how their stories will develop.
Hunter and Graces book was excellent! I have read all of the original stories of BKI and liked them a lot. This is book one of BKI Reloaded and I have to sincerely say this one gave me all the feels, to even crying for Hunter and other characters in the story.
Grace is so skillful at her profession that now she is on the run trying to clear her name while there is a Russian assassin with a penchant for whistling a tune that's after her. She sees only one choice and that is to contact the man who ignited a spark in her 3 years earlier.
Hunter, is normally a man a very few words that is very stoic and everything he does and very good at it as well. And this story we discover why he is the way he is and why he looks at life through the lens that he does. It is truly heartbreaking that a man who has received so many accolades and achievements in his life and works with the best of the best is the way he is. I will warn you you might need to tissue.
Here we have secondary characters that truly support this book. They're just as intriguing and funny and downright loyal. We also have characters of old who are here as well and for those of you who have read the original series these characters will definitely make you smile and happy to know what they're currently up to.
Needless to say I can't wait to read the other two books so far in the series which I will be moving on to next. I just love love them. Watch out for hurricane Hannah and Sam!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆ This may be book one of BKI: Reloaded, but if you have not read the Black Knights books already, please do yourself a huge favour and go back to the start. They are all fantabulous reads and will set you right up for this one!
Hunter has been a favourite of mine for a while, so I am so happy that he got his story told. Be prepared for some pretty mind-blowing events – both of the very, very good kind, and most definitely of the less good kind too. Fans know going in that the Black Knights are the very best at keeping people safe, but that the body count can rack up – mix that in with an FBI agent being hunted by a Russian assassin and you can only imagine the crazy!
Grace was just the perfect foil for Hunter, and I loved that she could bring to him a family to add to the BKI one that he belongs to already.
Great to catch up with the crew, to have some fun and some suggestions as to who is next going to find their future happiness!

4.25stars—BACK IN BLACK is the first instalment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC: RELOADED erotic, romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC. This is FBI agent Grace Beacham, and BKI Operative Hunter Jackson’s story line. BACK IN BLACK can be read as a stand alone. You do not have to have read the original series to understand.
Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Grace and Hunter, BACK IN BLACK follows in the wake of the murder of Grace Beacham’s FBI partner. While investigating a Russian disinformation campaign, Grace and her partner find themselves target of a man calling himself Orpheus, an assassin who is about to throw Grace to the wolves. As the prime suspect, Grace is desperate for help, and calls the last man she ever thought she would have to call. Enter BKI operative Hunter Jackson, former US Green Beret, and the man with whom Grace will fall in love.Three years earlier, working an assignment together, Hunter and Grace crossed a personal line, a line neither one has been able to forget. On the run, Hunter and Grace begin a dance of seduction while the team at BKI search for the truth.
Meanwhile, BKI Agent Sam Harwood needs help to track down a possible mole in the US government, and contacts the only person he knows with enough experience and capabilities to hack the people in charge. Enter Hannah Blue, his ex-girlfriend’s younger sister, and the woman whose heart Sam is about to break.
The world building takes the reader back into the world of the Black Knights Inc. A new team has been assembled as the original team members have moved on with their lives but the occasional cameo and return of a familiar name adds cohesion to the new story line arc.
The relationship between Grace and Hunter is one of friends to lovers whose previous encounter turned personal but Grace and Hunter moved on with their lives, and when Hunter offered his phone number in case of emergencies, Grace never expected to come face to face with the man who called to her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to the new team of agents at BKI including secretary Eliza Meadows, Sam Harwood, and hacker Hannah Blue. Hannah and Sam’s story line is next.
BACK IN BLACK is a story of power and control, espionage and murder, second chances and loves. The fast paced, action packed premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are desperate and powerful.
DNF. After pages and pages of being lectured about politics, then a stupid plot that didn’t make any sense, I give up!
I couldn’t finish this. I tried and tried but I couldn’t ignore the massive mistakes. Grace is an FBI agent who is on the run from a Russian hitman who set her up so she looks like the murderer of her partner. It’s quite exciting at first as she’s hiding in woods etc, but it goes rapidly downhill after that. Grace hasn’t got anyone to turn to, except her older brothers who are both cops, or her Marshall sister, but no she rings a man who she worked with THREE and a half years ago for four days. 😂😂😂😂 in that four days they shared a kiss that neither of them can get over apparently, as they both fantasise about each other. Weird, moving on. When Hunter the mmc comes to rescue her he’s on his Harley motorbike with his friend Sam on his Harley motorbike with their licence plates on full display. So they are easily tracked and they can be heard from miles away. So the Russian knows exactly who they are and yet he doesn’t shoot Grace who is a really good target on the back of a motorbike???
Hunter works for a secret government organisation that are given jobs that are off the books and untraceable. They’re given exciting jobs like looking after a senator’s daughter. 😂😂 When they take Grace back to their base she instantly guesses what they do there, but Hunter and Sam aren’t allowed to tell her so they hide it from her. Except they basically reveal a load of top secret information within minutes of her getting there!!! 😂😂😂 It’s decided that they’ll help protect Grace and also look into who is after her and why. Sam knows a hacker who can help them so for the next twelve pages we get a chapter of Hannah the hacker. I’m really not interested in her dating life or who she is! I suspect this is the next book but I don’t care.
Eventually Grace and Hunter move to a secret location that no one will be able to trace. They go there on Hunters Harley just so the Russian can know and the whole area can hear them coming. 😂😂😂 it’s beyond ridiculous! Where’s the bullet proof untraceable cars? They’re a top secret government agency that ride around on Harleys. Lmao!
Last complaint then I’ll stop. Why does the author think that I want to read about her opinions on politics and apparently stupid people who believe everything on the internet. I want to read a book to escape from reality, not be lectured!!! 😡😡😡
Sorry it’s not very well written. I gave it two stars as it’s not the worst book I’ve ever read. 😂😂
Black Knight Inc is the successful series from Julie Ann Walker that follows a group of operatives who risked everything while fighting modern evil and finding redemption and their HEAs along the way. This is the triumphant return to the Black Knight shop with a brand-new set of operatives who will continue the good fight and maybe find their own HEAs?
Back in Black is the first installment of the second incarnation of the Knights. We are introduced to Hunter Jackson, Sam Harwood and Eliza Meadows who are in house while the rest of the crew is out on mission. On a quiet night, Hunter received a call from a woman who he had worked before and gave his number but had never reached out until that moment. Grace Beacham is on the run; an FBI operative is being framed with the murder of her partner and ties with a Russian shadow group who is creating havoc with misinformation and more nefarious plans. Hunter believes in her, after all they worked together on a previous case and their budding attraction was put on hold for 3 years and now is roaring back to life in the middle of this crisis. With the help of calm under pressure Eliza, loyal Sam Harwood and wild card Hannah Blue they set to untangle and clear Grace’s name while Hunter and Grace worked to figure out their own relationship.
As a reader, I was delighted with how Ms. Walker tied up this new incarnation of the Knights, giving them their own voices and stories to tell while bringing back cameos of the OG Knights including one beloved cat. I was glued to this book; every minute count and on my mind the tick tock clock of “24” was sounding loud and clear. If you like your reads to be fast paced, full of intrigue, action packed dotted with dry humor and of course, romantic suspense look not further than a Black Knight Inc book and let’s roll with Back in Black: BKI: Reloaded. Without giving more away, Hunter and Grace’s story felt like it was part of recent events, while their romance was hot, intimate and just perfect for them.
Back in Black reads as a stand-alone book but it is Book One to the stories of the new Knights. We met the couple who will be front and center on the next book: Black Hearted and sincerely I can’t wait to see how it goes and who of our OGs will pop up and tag along with the new Black Knights. Meanwhile, it is time to go back in time and revisit the origins of Black Knight Inc. Five stars!
Woohoo the Black Knights are back and we get new members with a few of the old.
Major Hunter Jackson is a former Green Beret and works as an operative for Black Knights, Inc. In the middle of the night he receives a call from Grace Beacham, who he met three years ago on a case and has fueled his fantasies ever since. When she finally uses his number, he runs to her rescue. He and Sam decide to help her out when they discover that the infamous Russian assassin, Orpheus, is after her.
FBI agent Grace Beacham is being accused of murdering her partner and now the FBI is hot on her trail. When she gets an anonymous text telling her Orpheus is after her, she calls the one person she knows she can trust, Hunter. Now she has to work to clear her name, but will she be able to stay alive long enough?
"A heart can heal after it breaks. But the pieces never quite fit together the same. I'm not saying, it's better or worse. I'm just saying it's different. And that's okay. Nobody gets out of this thing we call life with all their parts still tuned to their factory settings. -Dan "The Man" Currington
I find that I love seeing the new team and the original members interact because they have so much to teach them. I can see how all of us can identify with that statement by Dan because at one point we all have a broken heart that needs time to heal.
I have loved the BKI crew from the beginning and am so excited we get to see this world again. We get to see characters from the original series that leaves us wanting more. I hope we get to see more of all of them as the spin-off progresses they are all vital to BKI's success. I am excited to see more of Hannah and Sam because they were a blast together. I think she can give Ozzie a run for his money .. just saying. I recommend this book as your introduction to the BKI world, but I would go back and start from the beginning to give you a better back story. I mean come on you can't get better than soldiers riding in on a motor cycle.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review.
FBI agent Grace Beacham is in trouble. Her partner is dead, and everyone thinks she did it... oh, and she's being chased by a skilled mercenary killer...
Hunter Jackson is a member of a very secretive group of former military men known as the Black Knights... and when Grace calls him for help, she can be assured he is the perfect man for the job...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back in Black was a slow burn, romantic suspense, and the glorious return to the Black Knights universe! Grace and Hunter once shared an evening and some chemistry, but ended up going their separate ways... until Grace finds herself in a dangerous situation, and the only person she knows who can help her is the one man she's never stopped thinking about...
I loved Grace's strength and how she and Hunter would be a perfect match... if their past hang-ups and trained killers would just get out of the way...
This book was an engaging read, with fantastic characters and tons of suspenseful, dramatic moments! Grace and Hunter's romance was a sweet and sexy, adrenaline filled, journey.
I am so ecstatic for more of the Black Knights Inc: Reloaded series! We got a glimpse into where the original Black Knights Inc characters are at in their own HEA's, and we were introduced to the new and already fascinating characters to come! I am especially excited for more from a Hannah and Sam story!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
And within the first few pages, I realized how much I missed them. There is a brand new team, but the setting is the same. This one is about Hunter Jackson and Grace Beacham. They met a while ago and couldn't get over each other. Now Grace needs help. Appearance Hunter And, oh man, they have a lot to go through. They have to play hide and seek with Grace's department and a highly armed henchman, also known as Orpheus. The plot is gripping from the first page, with many twists and turns and packed with action. That's the style I like to read. When danger and love hold the balance and you turn page after page to find out what happens next. Hunter is kind of a part-time recluse, but Grace takes the edge off his pain. Grace has a great family, but is disappointed in her current life. So Hunter can help her out of that. I love these two characters, they show strength and try to support each other, certainly with the help of the rest of the BKI team. It is a lot of fun to read that Julie Ann Walker has always had a glimpse of the next couple, in this case especially Sam and Hannah. The bickering overlays the current danger and makes for a lot of fun and some breathing room in a packed action story. I also love the way she describes everything from different points of view. What the person thinks about themselves and how the person they are facing thinks about them. So the reader gets many views of the same person from different angles, and that makes everyone in this book wonderfully described and characterized. I can hardly wait to see what Hurricane Hannah and Sam will experience.
I could not have been more excited to hear that Walker was returning to the world of the Black Knights Inc (or BKI)!
This is a great introduction to the new members of the crew while still including cameos from the OG Knights who are still around albeit not necessarily active operators anymore (or are they? who knows, can't wait to see how that part might develop as the series goes on). One note, you don't have to read the OG BKI books to understand this story. Walker gives you a great introduction and quick summary of BKI so readers new to the series will not be confused. However, the OG BKI books are some of my all time favorites so I highly recommend reading those as it will make you appreciate the cameos from the OG BKI guys in this book even more.
This book follows BKI operator Hunter and Grace, an FBI agent on the run who knows Hunter from when he helped her on a previous case. The book immediately sucks you into the story with an unknown bad guy who seems to have WAY too much information and an interesting mystery that kept me guessing until the end! Definitely a story with some sad parts, but those enhance the overall romance between Hunter and Grace. There are some fun other characters that you meet that I can't wait to see more of as the series goes on.
All in all GREAT to be back in Chicago and my only negative is we have to wait for Walker to write the rest of the stories! I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book. This is my true and honest opinion. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I fell in love with the original BKI series and each of the operatives and was sad when the series ended. Imagine my delight, when the author decided to give us BKI 2.0 with a whole new set of operatives and having the original group make cameo appearances. This first story in the BKI Reloaded did not disappoint. Grace Beacham is an FBI agent that finds herself running for her life when her partner is killed with her knife and all evidence points to her. She calls the only man she can trust, BKI operative Hunter Jackson. She met him three years ago during a mission, followed by unforgettable days with him. Even though they have not kept in touch, she knows she can count on him. Hunter is determined to help Grace and keep her safe. In the race to find the culprit that could cause damage not only to Grace but to the nation, feelings intensify. But Hunter’s past makes him feel unloved and unworthy of Grace. Will they survive the danger? If so, will they confess how they feel or will each go their separate way? Will the culprit be found and arrested? Is is someone within the FBI? The plot was engaging from the first page to the last. The main characters perfect in their imperfection. The secondary characters, Hannah and Sam leaves the readers hoping they too will get their story. This story is also a reminder that family are not only those we have by blood, but also we create by choice. Looking forward to more stories in this new series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Back in Black is a heroine-in-peril (though she's kick butt in her own right, she's big enough to admit when she needs help), forced proximity, we-need-to-save-the-wworld-but-don't-know-who-we-can-trust nonstop thrill ride. Grace and Hunter shared a single kiss three years ago just after finishing a job together that neither of them has forgotten--or gotten over--but somehow they're both convinced that the other one doesn't feel the same.
It's a stuggle, y'all. ;)
How do they figure out who's feeding the world's most deadly assassin his information while staying out of his way, clear Grace's name with the Bureau, AND keep from falling in love while they're at it?
Spoiler alert: they're going to fail at one of those things...
If you're new to the Black Knights Inc world, this is a perfect place to start--though I won't promise you won't want to go back and read the original series too. The next book's hero and heroine get a head start here--Hannah and Sam are doing some of the behind-the-scenes heavy lifting while Grace and Hunter are on the run, and not going to lie, it'll probably make you just as anxious as I am for their book to hit the shelves.
Only 1 month to wait! I can make it...probably....
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Grace Beacham is an FBI agent on the run. She’s been framed for the murder of her partner, as he was killed with her pocket knife. The other agents on the case are convinced she’s guilty; meanwhile, there’s a Russian assassin on her trail. To escape the assassin and to give her time to ferret out the criminal mastermind, she contacts Hunter Jackson, a member of the ‘reloaded’ BKI Team. The new president is a woman, and she reconstitutes a functioning BKI Team populated with her own group of chosen warriors. Sure, Boss and Becky are still around, with two little girls in tow. But this book gives us a glimpse at the new BKI group, and gives us a deeper look into the lives of Hunter and his friend Sam, also a BKI operative.
This story gives readers a glimpse of Hunter’s backstory, and the things that made him the man he is now. It also gives us the story of Grace’s past, and introduces us to her family. The overall feel of this story is very current. It exposes some of the issues that are relevant to the way people can be manipulated to think certain ways, without any knowledge that they are being manipulated. The story is well-written and fast-paced. The tension increases when needed, and recedes when other things are happening.
This book is fun, energetic, and poignant at times. I’m thrilled that there are more BKI stories! It was a sad time when the prior series ended, but this story begins to fill that void!
It's been a wile since I read the original Black Knights Inc, books, but I loved them and the characters. Now we have new characters but with the OG Black Knights are still around too. I loved Back in Black (Black Knights Inc: Reloaded). It brought me back to the suspense, danger, and lethal operatives that were specially chosen by the President to protect and serve on a level that our military is unable to do. The Black Knights Inc operatives are some of the best Special Operatives that served our country and now they're serving it in a different way.
I loved Hunter and Grace's story. They met three years ago on a mission and neither one forgot about the other. Grace was just going through a tough time in her life and Hunter was just starting his new career. Fast forward three years and Grace is in trouble and the only person she can think of to call is Hunter Jackson. Now he's on his way to rescue her and they will stand together to fight the danger that is hunting Grace. They'll also need to deal with the fall out of this situation and their insecurities that they both carry.
I loved Back in Black and I am very excited to be reading the Black Knights Inc: Reloaded series and I can't wait for the next books to come. Julie Ann Walker has a great talent for writing strong, independent women that are able to stand on their own, but welcome the support of a strong, lethal man to stand beside them.
Book One of the Black Knights Inc - Reloaded Series is an action packed, sitting on the edge of your seat suspense filled story with a lot of sizzle and chemistry jumping off the pages. Never a dull moment and lots of wit mixed in to keep the pages turning.
FBI Grace Beacham was trying to undertake a Russian campaign when her partner is killed and they do everything they can to frame her for his murder. Finding herself on the run, she reaches out the someone she know she can count on. She worked closely with Hunter three years ago when life wasn't particularly kind to her but he stood strong at her side.
Hunter's life prior to the Black Nights has been an interesting ride to say the least and like many military men it has certainly taken it's toll. Add in an upbringing you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy and one understands Hunters reluctance to relationship and happiness. But when Grace calls, he is quick to jump and do what he can to help her.
Is it possible Grace and Hunter knew the depths of their connection all those years ago. Is that what kept them away from one another? Or did they just need to be in a better space first. It is definitely a story worth reading. And I hope that Sam and Hannah will be our next adventure in the series.
One word for the Back in Black...perfection! BKI is back with a whole group of new operatives. Hunter Jackson is the first member of this secret government group whose story we begin with. Hunter loves working for BKI. He loves his partners, the missions, the camaraderie but he what he keeps to himself is that he is longing for that special someone to be a part of his personal life. He always thinks about "the one that got away". Hunter had reasons for letting her get away but he's never forgotten FBI agent Grace Beacham. Now it's three years later and Grace is in serious trouble. Her partner has been killed and Grace is being framed for the murder. There is only one person she thinks to call to assist her and that is Hunter. She hasn't heard from him in years but she hopes that he is the man that she believes him to be and that he'll help her to figure out what is happening to her life. Hunter and Grace's story is great. Pulled from the headlines and took me on a thrill ride that kept me glued to the pages. I am so excited about this new series. Peeks at characters from the past and plenty of new characters for the future! Back in Black was a fantastic romantic suspense story. It was told from multiple POV and packed plenty of action and heat!
