Real life & real love. I loved that this was a different angle to a love story. The inclusion of a disease though different from what I have read before, it was authentic and interesting. I liked how the author was able to bring realness throughout the book, I was able connect with both DeAndre and Samiya. I felt for Samiya and was happy she was able to live instead of only existing. Thank God DeAndre realize he needed to let go of the toxic person and change his toxic behaviour…cause why you kept accepting it! Me and Samiya’s mother was on the same level, Samiya should of beat Crystal’s ass 😆, she still got what she deserved. My fav was Aniya, loved her vibes. I would definitely like to read a book about her.
I was sad for Samiya, yet glad she had her best friend/cousin Aniyah to encourage her and remind her of all the great things she had in her. Even in his mess ups, I'm glad DeAndre took the time to really learn about Samiyas disease and not let it make him run away as other guys had done.
I get that learning about her diagnosis was a shock, yet she let her ex off too easy. Knowing that he probably gave it to her and probably contracted it bc he cheated was something she should've confronted him about. I hate the she isolated herself. She obviously was a ambitious, vibrant, beautiful and otherwise healthy young woman, so to let her exes words have her shying away from the greatness that was in her, was sad to read about. I loved her cousin Aniyah. She was so encouraging and while she empathized with her, she still told her the truth. Samiyah needed Aniyah in her corner, yet also to put things into perspective for her too.
I'm glad Samiyah continued to go with her gut and give DeAndre a chance. He was shocked by her diagnosis, and immediately realized his reaction was wrong, and I'm glad he did. He also should've shut down his crazy ex, Crystal from jump. I get him being drunk and horny, yet he should've left her to her crazy ways. The elevator didn't go all the way to the top with that one 🤨. She was the definition of crazy and I'm glad he eventually put his foot down and let her be.
I liked DeAndre. He didn't deserve Crystals crazy at all. He just wanted to love her, wife her and have a family with her, yet she let that crazy side out and he dodged a huge bullet with that one. Geez.
I like how after he realized his huge mistake with his reaction to Samiyas diagnosis, he went to find out more information from a professional. He could've apologized and walked away, yet he wanted to come at her correctly and with the knowledge that he'd need to move forward safely. He gained huge points there. He was a stand up guy and I love how he was open and honest with Samiya and respectful of her information by not telling anyone about it.
This was a good read. I love that these two were able to get a chance at honest, pure, open and safe love. They deserved it.
Ms. Monae first and foremost thank you for telling Samiya's story. As a person that has been in healthcare for almost twenty years the stigma around this disease is deafening. As you mentioned in the afterword of the book people would be amazed at how many people are living with it.
Samiya deserved unconditional love from someone that loved all of her. Her status did not change who she was as a person. She was still a successful young woman that was accomplishing her dreams and getting her bag. She was a boss and made waves in her small town. DeAndre came into her life right when she needed companionship the most. I was glad he needed to let go of his anchor named Crystal as well. And Samiya needed a knight in shining armor to swoop in and allow her to open her heart again. It was a win-win for both of them. DeAndre was so attentive to Samiya. He spoiled her and she deserved every pop tart she got.
This is a magnificent read, a little different than the norm but a story that I feel needed to be told. Everyone deserves to love and to be loved holistically. Ms. Monae I would love to have an update on these two and read Aniyah's story. I think once Samiya settles down and ties the knot Aniyah will want to as well.
Omg I simply love this story was amazing 👏🏾😍this couple was a win for me yesssss he loved her whole heart ❤such an gentleman she was so down to earth loved it from beginning to end her cousin and his friends had me cracking up 😂 this was so romantic beautifully written about loving someone for who they are and not what their past experiences may have been or current situations this educated me as well about her disease. 🥰🥰🥰
Medical conditions that are stigmas are rarely dealt with like it was in this story. Samiya received the worst news on a day that should have been a happy one. The man in her life reacted the most irresponsible as one could imagine. DeAndre was in the right place at the right time in both his and Samiya's life. I enjoyed this story, even with the tough subject matter. 4.75 stars....
These are the type situations I feel need to be addressed in books. From the beginning this book pulls you, I really like Deandre and Samiya. It was messed up how her ex treated her after she told him. I loved her cousin because she never let her become to depressed about her situation. Samiya should have understood that she could still find love after learning about her issue. The way Deandre handled it was real no matter what anyone in his shoes would have reacted like that because we are human. I am glad he went and did research and apologized. That ex Crystal 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️, I was reading the book like how you ain’t know she was crazy Dre like it’s right there in his face. When she kept popping up I would have gotten new everything 🤣. I think Samiya was wrong for just assuming that Dee would tell her business without talking to him, I see now that was her insecurities and she was waiting for an opening to get out. I am so happy she got out of her own way and look they got the love they deserved and a whole lot more.
This book was good and I enjoyed the story and appreciated the research the author put into the topic. Samiyah was dealt a huge blow in the beginning and she ended up wearing it like a Scarlett letter but the love of Dre allowed her to see that she didn’t have to and she could experience love like she always yearned for. I loved how Dre did not give up on Samiyah and continued to set his intentions even when she pushed him away. His ex was crazy and needed some serious help. This book showed love unconditionally and love in sickness and in health. Very good read.
Although I felt like Dre was constantly apologizing and he should have thoroughly embarrassed Crystal and reported her to her job and the police, hats off to the author for addressing this topic. There are so many things that are still taboo and met with so much criticism that it stifles community growth and education. I enjoyed this read.
This was a beautiful story !!!! I’m so glad she was able to find love with Dre !! Both exes were something serious. The boyfriend that probably had it and passed it on to her and Cythnia that couldn’t let go! I’m happy that she had a cousin/ best friend that always poured into her!
This was such a touching story, I can relate to the condition the heroine has. So glad that she opened up her heart to love again. Loved DeAndre. So happy that he did his research. His ex was was so crazy. She really needed some help. Thanks to the author for bringing light to this condition. 👏👏👏
I’m so glad Dre never gave up on Samaiya she deserved that happy ending crystal was truly a menace she needed to be treated mentally. Samaiya ex was foul and I believe he was the culprit behind her illness
I liked how the incorporation of disease in a new relationship was handled. I can't really say I liked Dre he just...didn't have It. But the story was still great! Read it!
First, I like to say I love the way you tackle this subject. There is love out there. Dre and Samiya coming together was wonderful. Life continues and you can still be happy and love again. As always it's an absolute pleasure reading your books 🥰.
