I am not a daily devotional type of gal, so I just picked it up and read whenever. I love Loretta Lynn, and this book was one of her last projects before she passed away. Loretta had a beautiful, deeply rooted faith and relationship with God, and her thoughts and prayers throughout the book display that. It was comforting and uplifting to read.

May 7, 2023A Song and A Prayer is a beautiful 30-day devotional. As a fan of Loretta Lynn’s music, and country music in general, I love that each devotion is inspired by one of her songs and shares her wishes that everyone knows how much God loves them.
Anyone that has read my blog for any length of time knows I love devotionals. I love how they inspire me to spend if only a few minutes each day in worship and appreciation for all God is and does. This one is particularly special and belongs on my 2023 Favorites list!

Who doesn’t love the soulful (or possibly angsty) twang of Loretta? The woman has been through hard times, but she has remained with a heart for God. This is evident in her devotional book penned right before she went home to Jesus. Her devotions were taken from her older songs and some newer ones she wrote with Kim McLean for this book. They are short and sweet, but many are rather poignant. I thought they were grounded in scripture and showcased faith. I had fun listening to the songs I could find online…took me back to my younger days when(I think) country music was at its best!

A Song and A Prayer is a 30-day devotional featuring insights from Country superstar, Loretta Lynn. She wrote it alongside, Kim McLean who is a pastor and a songwriter and even wrote some songs with Loretta. The book was finished right before she passed away. Each day include a short devotional, a Bible verse, a prayer, and a song lyric.
She begins the first devotional by sharing how everyone is so busy now and they are constantly worrying about things they can’t control. She explained how it all comes down to the deep truth that everyone wants to be loved and to feel safe and important. She compared it to like a dog chasing its tail and how we all are looking for love in all the wrong places. She stated how we need to focus on doing things because of live is worth living and the only important reason is to with it daily with God. She explored Matthews 6:28-29 and how the lilies of the field are just soaking in the sunshine and rain and letting God take care of them. She revealed how critical it is to pray and this is the way we can listen to God. She explained how we don’t all need to strive to be special. We are all already special in His eyes. We can all have a song and a prayer.
One of my favorite ones was the one that was based on her song, “You’re Lookin’ at Country”. This discussed how King David danced and how he was probably judged and viewed different but he didn’t care. He was dancing because he had the joy of the Lord. He was very real and he wasn’t fake. She compared him to a country boy. He would watch over sheep and protected them from other animals. She shared how everyone is one of a kind and everyone should be themselves. We don’t need to live our lives wondering and worrying about what others think of us.
I would recommend this life changing devotional to anyone who is a Country music fan and they grew up listening to her music. I have always enjoyed the friendly personality and the country fire she has always had in performing her song. It was interesting to hear more from her heart and learning about her faith and what she has learned over the years. I loved how they mixed in her more positive message in her songs into the devotionals. Her book is a shining light in a world that desperately needs some positivity and hope in Christ. In reading the book, he can feel the wisdom coming off the pages in anticipation of bettering others and leading them to Christ. I felt like this book was one last dramatic reminder to fans about how Jesus loves them and wants them to go into the everlasting with Him.

I grew up listening to country music that my parents played both at home and in the car, so I was well familiar with who Loretta Lynn is before seeing this book. A Song and a Prayer: 30 Devotions Inspired by My Favorite Songs is an uplifting devotional inspired by a variety of song and hymns.
A Song and a Prayer is a 31 day devotional written to remind everyone who reads it that God loves them. "You don't have to be something special in God's eyes, because you already are something special," according to Lynn. Each of these devotionals is based on a song such as Coal Miner's Daughter, one of Lynn's biggest hits, It is Well with my Soul, I'd Rather Have Jesus and a whole lot of other songs and hymns. Each reading starts with a Bible verse, includes a devotional reading, and ends with a song and a prayer. I didn't know all of the songs in the book, although certainly I could find them online and listen, but the words and the stories were all encouraging. While anyone could read this book and be encouraged, This is especially a devotional that I think older Christian women who listened to Lynn's music would enjoy. A Song and a Prayer is a beautifully bound gift book and would make a nice gift for someone. My Grandma would have enjoyed this book a lot.

I love this book. For anyone who is in need of spiritual healing or prayers to help cope with everyday life this is your book. It is meant to be read one chapter a day but I read the whole book fast because it helped me with the loss of my mother recently. It shows in so many ways that God is with you no matter what and never leaves you. The prayers help you to calm yourself down and the music is just and added benefit. Loretta had the talent of singing about her failures and her triumphs. This book will make you feel good inside and out. She helps you to find the love of God through scriptures and prays. She made me feel like we al have problems and that there is a way to fix them and move on. I will probably buy this book so that I can read it over and over again.

As soon as I saw this book, I had to have it. Loretta Lynn was an inspiration to anyone that knew anything about her. She was very deep with her Christianity and it beamed through. While reading this book, I told my husband I could feel her throughout. It was weird to hear her voice so clearly. She told us of her love for God and Jesus, and showed how in each chapter to connect a prayer, thought and a song. It left you in a profound thought, and I appreciated it greatly.
I do enjoy a book that can challenge my own faith and perceptions. This did that for me at times. I hope it can do it for you too!

Whether a Loretta Lynn fan or not, this devotional is a great tool to have in your Bible Study line up. It has scripture, personal stories, prayer and song lyrics to remind you of what a faithful God we serve. As I'm reading it, I'm hearing the stories in Loretta's own voice and it just adds a special touch to imagine her simple, yet devout beliefs and translate that into my own life. Some of the most beautiful saints are the simplest ones. No fancy words, no haughty messages. Just the gospel, pure and simple. What a treasure when you can find real people like that to share Jesus with.

I love A Song and a Prayer by Loretta Lynn and Kim McLean! A Song and a Prayer is a 30 day devotional. Each devotion entry includes a Bible verse, Mrs. Lynn’s and Ms. McLean’s thoughts, with a prayer, and a song that the Authors wrote or like. I really enjoyed reading A Song and a Prayer and it ministered to me. I also enjoyed reading more about Mrs. Lynn’s Faith and that she sticks to her convictions. If you are looking for an inspiring read then I highly recommend A Song and A Prayer by Loretta Lynn and Kim McLean! Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. I have always been a Loretta Lynn fan. And I have always been a fan of Our Lord Jesus, both of these is the reason to purchase this book. The words and lyrics put together by Loretta and Kim were very inspiring to me. The inspiring words makes me want to have a relationship with Jesus as Loretta did. If you are a Christian you should read this book, you won't be sorry.

I purchased get this book for my mother for Mother's Day, and after she completed it, she let me borrow it. I'm so glad she did! The devotions are written in a manner so that you could just imagine Loretta sitting with you and speaking the words. They are thoughtful and meaningful, and the prayers and song lyrics that accompany each day's devotion are perfect. I didn't want the book to end. I'm so glad I read it!

This is an excellent read for anyone who loves music and the power music can have over our lives. As a worship leader, music is something that speaks deeply to my soul and helps me connect with God. The devotionals in this book are not only inspired by some classics, but connect body, mind, and soul. I would recommend it for those who love Jesus and praise through worship and song.

A spiritual Blessing
I followed this devotional through the Lenten season and enjoyed. I could hear Loretta's voice sharing her love of Jesus and then go on line and find the songs that supported the lesson. The only thing which would have made it better would have been a CD with her voice singing all the songs to go with it.

My mother was a huge fan of Loretta Lynn and we went to one of her concerts and had a great time. She was a lady who had a rough life but persevered and this book, completed just prior to her passing, is a treasure. May she rest in peace.

I didn't realize until the very end of the book who was even speaking since there are technically two authors. I do wish I would have figured that out much sooner. It would have made more sense.

I listened to this book at work, it’s a 30 day devotional but it’s a great little book. The audiobook has songs and it’s so good!
