Take heart. The enemy’s roar is but a whisper in the presence of our mighty God.
Do you often feel stuck battling the same fears, temptations, lies, and doubts, wondering if you’ll ever overcome them? Does it seem as if you’re in that battle alone? Author Judy Dunagan has been there. In The Loudest Roar, you’ll marvel at the power, majesty, and authority of our Lord Jesus and learn how to stand in the unshakable victory He’s already won for you.
In that victory, you
- Discern God’s voice over the lies of the enemy
- Stand firm in faith rather than give way to fear
- Dwell in the cover of God’s armor over you and your loved ones
- Keep your thoughts captive to truth
- Find victory over cycles of sin in your life
God’s roar over you will become your roar, diminishing the lies of the enemy . . . to a whisper.
Questions for each chapter will help you discover how to apply the biblical truths in this book to your life.
This turned out to be a book mostly about prayer….. the title, tagline, nor back of the book divulged that. That’s my biggest issue….. the book wasn’t in line with what the title, tagline, & back of the book said it would be. It was Biblically solid & I highlighted several great things, but the book didn’t live up to what it promised. Disappointed.
This short, highly readable book is filled with encouragement for Christians who are struggling with doubt, temptation, and self-defeating thoughts. Judy Dunagan shares biblical teaching and personal stories to illustrate the freedom we can experience by living in Christ's victory instead of trying to fight our battles on our own. The chapters are short and easy to read, and the author's passion for Christ and concern for others come through clearly. At the end of each chapter, she shares an example prayer, references an additional Bible passage to reflect on, and recommends an encouraging praise song that fits with that chapter's theme.
The Loudest Roar will encourage both women and men who are struggling to feel victorious in their spiritual lives. Dunagan writes in realistic ways about different forms of suffering and doesn't promise victory over our immediate circumstances, but she shows how people can become stronger to face their circumstances by clinging to God and rooting their identity in what God has done, not their own fears or failures. The book also includes discussion questions at the end that people can use independently or in a small group setting.
This book is general enough that any Christian can connect with its message, but it will probably be most encouraging to mothers. Many of Dunagan's personal stories involve examples from when her children were growing up, and although she writes some in general about anxiety, she mainly focuses on anxiety in the context of raising children. This book isn't specifically for moms, and can appeal to women and men in different life stages, but it will probably hit home the most for Christian mothers who are dealing with anxiety and struggling not to believe lies in the midst of their parenting challenges.
I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
In The Loudest Roar, Judy Dunagan invites readers to hear God’s reassuring and powerful roar. We hear his voice in Scripture’s record of his faithful love, and we bear witness to God’s power when he shows up as the Bigger Lion in the midst of our times of discouragement or fear.
Having battled anxiety and engaged in the fight of her life to preserve her marriage, Dunagan has road-tested every principle she shares. She demonstrates an unusual gift for bringing the truth of God’s Word into actionable principles for a changed life.
Believers in the present day need the reminder that our mightiest weapons are not self-esteem or Google, but, rather, God’s Word and prayer. We wear protective armor and are best equipped for battle when the loudest sound in our ears is the truth that God already reigns as our victorious Lord.
Many thanks to Moody Publishers for providing a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which is, of course, offered freely and with honesty.
Are you looking to strengthen your prayer life? Here's a book I recommend: The Loudest Roar by Judy Dunagan. It's split into three sections. The first reminds us that God is stronger than the deceiver, and His roar is bigger and will scare away that one that lurks to steal and lie to us. The second covers areas that we struggle with. The third shows us how to implement what she teaches.
One quote I want to share with you came in a story of two women biking--while a mountain lion attacked one, the other screamed for help and held on to her friend. The persistent friend said afterward, "I'm hanging on to your legs in prayer, and the roaring lion cannot devour you!"
Isn't that an image we can carry with us while we pray for our family and friends? Don't give up! Keep praying.
5 ⭐️! Biblical, practical, simple yet profound. Amazing resource for anyone from a new to mature Christian. Addresses identity in Christ, prayer, worship, warfare, and how to navigate struggles. Will recommend and give as a gift again and again!
Great book about what biblical spiritual warfare actually is – and what it isn’t
In her 176-page book, The Loudest Roar: Living in the Unshakable Victory of Christ, Judy Dunagan not only presents a balanced biblical view of what spiritual warfare actually is, but also just as important, what it isn’t.
Published by Moody Publishers, Dunagan shows that spiritual warfare is definitely very real, but with Christians either denying its reality or running scared from it.
“Sadly, instead of courage, we often choose to live in fear and defeat, with little understanding of how to stand in the courage and victory Christ has already purchased for us through His death, resurrection, and ascension,” she writes (page 19).
Perhaps the chapter that stood out the most to me was Chapter 8 (The Roar of Prayer), where she writes about lamenting prayer.
“I believe that weeping and wrestling prayers can be a part of our worship as we cry out to God. It took me a long time to learn this and a season of sorrows upon sorrows before I realized that lamenting prayers can draw us closer to Him. God wants us to come to Him with our sorrows and questions,” she writes (page 125).
Dunagan ultimately points to the Word of God and prayer as the genuine weapons of spiritual warfare: “Let’s cling to God’s Word. Savor it. Hide it in our heart and mind. Wield it against the enemy’s lies. Run to God’s Word when we are tempted to run away from God,” she writes (page 112).
After each chapter, Dunagan includes sections such as “the Roar of His Word,” and either a prayer or worship song. At the end, she also includes a study guide for individuals or small groups.
In the end, Dunagan clearly and concisely shows readers that spiritual warfare is not about yelling and screaming at the devil. Instead, it is all about praising and worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is our victory, the Lion of Judah who has the loudest roar of all.
I rated it 5 out of 5 stars.
Full disclosure: In accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255, I received a copy of this book free through Moody Publishers. My opinions are my own and I wasn’t required to write a positive review.
The Loudest Roar by Judy Dunagan helps readers stand in the unshakeable victory God has already won for them.
"Even though we know deep down that our God reigns and His victory is ours, we often live defeated–consumed with fear, temptation, doubt, resentment, or bitterness—as the powers of darkness target our ministries, marriages, and families."
Dunagan shares scriptural truths, personal examples, and other testimonies in her writing.
Part one of the book focuses on Jesus as our interceding Savior who dwells with us in our trials. Dunagan shares about a difficult time in her life when her mother battled Alzheimer's. Two years before she passed, she found a note her mother had written: "I'm fading away, but Jesus is keeping me every day."
I read this part of the book during half-time at my daughter's soccer game. The day before, I talked with a mom on the team about her mother's recent Alzheimer's diagnosis. She was struggling with the progressing symptoms she saw her mother dealing with. I felt the Lord wanted me to share that every time she felt afraid, she could repeat, "Though my mom is fading away, the Lord is keeping her every day."
It's encouraging to know the Lord is always working in our lives! Even when life is difficult, he keeps us!
The book's second part speaks of God's victory when we are afraid, tempted, and believing lies.
"We too often retreat in defeat when we let ourselves believe that the enemy is bigger, stronger, and more powerful than our Lord Jesus Christ."
"The enemy's roar is often loudest when tempting followers of Jesus not to trust God's goodness and faithfulness anymore."
The last part of the book shows us how we can use the mighty roars of God's Word, His armor, and prayer in our battles.
She writes how lamenting prayers draw us closer to God. Like Dunagan, some of my sweetest moments with God occurred through my "weeping wrestling prayers."
Each chapter ends with a prayer, The Roar of His Word (a scripture verse), and a worship song that ties in with the chapter. This is a great book to deepen your spiritual walk and find strength in God.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I received this book as a gift from a friend who knew I was walking through a tough season and thought it might provide some refuge and they were right.
I have read a lot of books in my life and next to the Bible, there are few that I would list in the top ten must reads. The Loudest Roar finds a home on that list. It should be required reading for all followers of Jesus Christ.
I often sit and read an entire book in a day or two but this one was different. I took my time, chewing on each morsel, savoring it. I read one chapter each day so that I could take it all that it had. When I finished I went back and started again and am slowly moving through it again. I think I may read it at least once every year, maybe once a quarter.
I met a new friend in Judy Dunagan. Judy writes with simple beauty. Sharing word pictures that touch the heart. She spoke openly about her own struggles and shared the stories of others that provided encouragement for everyone who has ever experienced a struggle in their lives. That speaks to every person, if you haven’t experienced a struggle yet, at some point you will. Judy encourages us with truth from God’s word to fight from a place of victory instead of fighting for victory. This book is saturated with so much scripture and practical application. Whether you are reading it alone, doing it as part of a book club or bible study, you will learn strategies for the battle, You will learn how to unleash the Loudest Roar.
I love that each chapter ended with scripture readings and recommendations for worship. Both are keys that we need for the battle and to ensure victory in and through Jesus. I can think of no better gift to give to another. I give it my highest recommendation.
“We can get overwhelmed by the enemy’s roars to the point that we no longer hear the loudest roar of our mighty God and the truth of His Word.” Isn’t that the case? I know it is for me. With this insightful statement ringing in our ears, author Judy Dunagan goes on to show us that we CAN fight the roars of the enemy because we have Jesus Christ, who has already won the battle, on our side. Published by Moody, “The Loudest Roar: Living in the Unshakable Victory of Christ” is a powerful little volume that will encourage, inspire, and challenge us to live as though victory is ours - because it IS!
It is clear by her passionate voice and meaningful stories that Judy Dunagan has truly lived out the challenges and truths of both believing - and living - as though God’s roar is the ultimate voice over her life. This makes her words relatable and trustworthy.
I also appreciated how, at the end of each chapter, there are Scripture verses to memorize and worship songs that made an impact on my heart. Plus towards the end of the book are prayers, discussion questions, and more interactive content to really help incorporate the powerful practices described in the book into our daily lives.
“The Loudest Roar” is a much-needed book that I definitely recommend to anyone seeking to find God’s voice in the midst of a world that seems so darkened by the enemy… and I’m guessing this may apply to many, many readers around the world today.
I received this book courtesy of Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book is helpful for men and women in every season of life, but as a young mom, it was incredibly impactful. With my kids in mind, who battle fear when it comes time to sleep, this was one of my favorite lines: "But my dad was like a lion protecting his cub, often praying for me as the enemy tried to prey over me with fear as I tried to fall asleep." This is a beautiful picture of Jesus and how we can step in as one of His ambassadors on Earth. I also loved Judy's vulnerability as she shared some of her life's challenges and overcame them by putting her faith in Christ; seeing how God redeemed the hurt she's experienced encouraged my soul! I also thoroughly enjoyed the prayer chapter and am eager to engage in all the prayer practices she teaches to her readers. Thank you, Judy, for empowering us to live in the victory of Jesus!
Thank you, Judy Dunagan, for this concrete, undeniable illustration that reminds us to whom victory belongs! When life becomes overwhelming, defeating and discouraging, the Lion of Judah is powerful, victorious, and encouraging - much like this book. I love the illustrations of God as the mightiest of lions with the loudest of roars. As I face challenges in life, I want to hold on to the vision of God standing behind me, His mighty power and roar mixing with my own feeble efforts and words, resulting in the victorious living. He has already won on my behalf. If the Lion of Judah is for me, who can be against? The author also outlines practical, usable strategies to harness the power of God's Word and to turn our prayer lives into a mighty roar. This book is so important to our current generation!
As a mom of 3 young children, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. Sometimes as busy/exhausted moms, it’s easy to lose sight of the victory we inherently possess as daughters of the King. Yet, we so often stand in the gap for our babies as they learn and grow into their identities in Christ. It can feel daunting. I was encouraged to read Judy’s very relatable stories about how she learned to wield that powerful inheritance in victory-won. It inspired me to continue to claim that victory over and over again in my marriage, my personal identity and my children’s lives. I devoured this book in a day. Read it. You won’t regret it.
This little book is a big lesson in being courageous. The first part is about how God is the bigger lion so we have nothing to be scared of with him in our lives. Part two tells us what to do when we are afraid, tempted or believe lies. Part three is about roaring with the word of God and prayer.
Each chapter ends with a prayer, a suggested bible verse and a worship song. I love when books include song suggestions. The book also ends with a study guide for yourself or a group.
If you need to be more courageous in your life and lean on God more, this is a good book.
This book is quick, easy to read and applicable to all. It reminds you that Christ has the loudest roar in our lives, not little old satan. The practical tips on how to pray more and in different ways is immensely appreciated. I’ll be rereading this in years to come and giving it as gifts to friends.
Judy does a great job drawing you into her book as she describes her own struggles in life and her practical ways to live in victory. She points the reader to the truth in the holy scriptures. God is our protector, provider and strength. This contains the truth all people need to know and practice daily until our Savior returns.
