True, stories about dogs have been a staple in children's literature for many years.
Also true that there are many picture books written from a dog's viewpoint.
Norma Roth's book is a simple but charming animal point-of-view story showing that growing up with a pet is a wonderful experience for little kids.
While learning, little Lucy offers a model of behavior children can copy and also learn.
The moral lesson of the closely-observed details of little loveable Lucy's life is not big but good enough - children are encouraged to have empathy for animals and be kind to each other.
The illustrations are admirable and numerous - I am sure the little reader will be thrilled to follow looking for details.

Responsible pet ownership

This is the second book about Lucy the dog that I have read. Both books resemble each other, describing the everyday life of a family who adopted a puppy.

Lucy is a grown dog now; she needs some training and more care. But as the story goes young readers will understand that she plays an important role in bringing the family together.
The book is well illustrated, the diversity is well represented, and the importance of being responsible is well developed.

Overall, it is a lovely story about patience and the importance of never giving up because each challenge is rewarding and helps us to learn something new. It is a good book that shows children what to expect when a pet joins the family.

This book is engaging as it tells the story of a family who adopts a new puppy and the challenges they face along the way. It shows how much fun it is to teach a puppy new behavior while being patient and kind as she learns.

The family helps Lucy, the puppy, feel brave about unfamiliar sounds and experiences. In the end, the message is amazing: By working as a team, the whole family can help Lucy hit her milestones.

This is a wonderful book that teaches young children responsibility. It shows how the puppy becomes part of the family through the loving care of the kids and adults looking after her. It is the perfect book for youngsters who have a new pet and are wondering how training a pet and living with the pet will evolve.

Little Lovable Lucy is back only this time this adorable dog is getting bigger and is struggling with learning commands like sit, stay, lie down and roll over. She also gets tangled up in her leash and is timid when it comes to climbing up and down stairs. Another delightful book in the Little Lovable Lucy series that tugs at readers’ heart strings and shows empathy and understanding between a family and a dog. The bright, bold, cartoon-like illustrations and simple vocabulary will engage young readers 3 to 7 years. Great gift or addition to home and school libraries.

What a sweet little story about getting to know your new puppy, and puppy getting to know it's humans. The illustrations are quite lovely, and the book takes the reader through some of the basics of puppyhood: leash walking, playing outdoors, learning commands; all with the family. The text is little repetitive, so perhaps the adult reader can add a few more details about the joys and challenges of raising a new dog.

My daughter and I loved reading about Lucy, a sweet pup with fun and sweet stories about life with her humans. The story teaches children about perseverance and how learning new skills can be hard, but in the end it's worth it!

We were excited to discover the second book in this series because we fell in love with Lucy in the first book. It is neat to see her growing and learning new tricks. Illustrations are wonderful and Lucy is so happy to learn new tasks with her family. She doesn't give up, and keeps trying even if she's scared.
