i picked this up at a conference. it is a compilation of short stories about African American women in North Carolina. the stories relay their farming days (early to mid 1900s)- the hard work and the sense of community the women felt with each other (very inspiring). as times have changed, they have been separated from one another, and resources that could help them are scarce, so the book hits on what social workers can do. the main point is to keep these elderly women's stories alive and to continue oral and written storytelling. i recommend the book to anyone who's interested and have it to lend.
