Adaptive Teaching: A Comprehensive Approach to Accommodation Teaching in the Inclusive Classroom

Rate this book
Adaptive teaching does not endeavor to “fix” anything, because no one is broken. Its purpose is to accommodate education so that it is suited to all students, in light of goals, needs, and characters.

When educators are asked about inclusion and acceptance of all students, their honest response is that inclusion is an important part of the educational assignment, but the understanding of how to apply such a concept to the classroom is often lacking and considered the domain of special education teachers alone.

However, as social and educational awareness to this issue grows, winds of change are blowing. Educators must adapt their strategies and approaches, their methods and means to the needs and singularity of each of their students.

Adaptive Teaching offers a new, relevant, realistic approach to inclusive education. It includes both theory and practical tools, but is dependent on educators’ willingness to contemplate themselves through this new attitude and adapt themselves to their students’ needs and today’s educational reality.

What an impact!!

This book and particularly one of stories (Shani's) has made such an impact on me. It put the fire in the belly one needs to keep working and being an advocate for people who cannot be for themselves. I truly recommend this book, whether for studies or information, it has some very good content.

A much needed guide for teachers – and all of us – for relevance, ethics and fairness

Israeli author Dr. Gilat Trabelsi earned her degrees in Education from Kibbutzim College in Tel Aviv, from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and from Bar-Ilan University n Ramat-Gan. She is the head of Special Education Department at Kaye Academic College for Education, serving as lecturer, counselor, and researcher in cognitive intervention, accommodative and adaptive teaching, inclusive education, ADHD, and Specific Learning Disability. ADAPTIVE TEACHING appears to be her debut publication, translated from the Hebrew by Leilla Feldman.

Dr. Trabelsi writing style is easily accessible to all readers, and especially to educations. Opening her guidance, she states ‘The term “adaptive teaching” is not a new term in the history of instruction or education, but it has been updated and brought into focus in a variety of contexts that stem form social processes, cultural trends, and pedagogical innovations. The need to provide a solution tailored to each student is a leading concept in the pedagogy of special education, but as educational and social awareness in crease regarding the diversity among learners, the winds of innovation regarding pedagogical solutions blow for all.’

In this excellent resource guide, Dr. Trabelsi addresses the need to reduce anxiety surrounding the issue of adaptive teaching and share the approaches, tools, and practices essential to any educator wishing to take a step forward. Her topics include the language of adaptive teaching, encouraging creativity via adaptive teaching, adapting mental resources to gain students’ attention, adaptive evaluation, adaptive teaching for emotional and social needs, and more. After her ‘lessons,’ she shares inspirational stories that underscore the concepts she has presented.

In this time where long-overdue focus in on inclusiveness, not only in education but also in our social awareness, this book becomes an invaluable tool. Very highly recommended
