"The New Smart Approach(R) to Bath Design" explains everything a homeowner needs to know to design and decorate a bathroom. Helping readers to think like a professional, this book provides advice for designing a master bath, family bath, kids' bath, and powder room, hiring design and construction professionals, shopping for materials, fixtures, and fittings, space planning, lighting, storage, safety, and decorating with style.
Are you among the many that have refinanced their homes because of the low interest rates? Maybe you plan on doing some remodeling, as I have. Maybe you have your eye on the bathroom. We were in need of a new tub and shower and before we knew it, there stood an emptied-out bathroom. That was when the fun began. Needless to say, it was very gratifying to see a new bathroom emerge in the end.
There is a book I selected in the "New Arrival" section of the library called The New Smart Approach to Bath Design. It is a "Creative Homeowner" book and it is written by Susan Maney. This book is absolutely wonderful and unique in its own way.
The introduction is about the history of bathing and dates back to years ago when water was hand-pumped, carried to the stove for heating, and then poured into a tub. The whole family shared one tub of water. Father was the first, being the head of the household, children next (one by one), followed by Mother.
It was during the Roman civilization that "bathhouses" became luxurious and a retreat from the pressures of everyday life. Bathing was an art, and bathhouses became centers of social activity. The private bath is a modern concept. Finally, sometime in the late nineteenth century, the bathroom became a permanent, separate room in the home. Boy, have we come a long way!
The photographs in this book are really beautiful and inspirational. There are also "smart tips" located throughout the book to offer the reader more advice in an easy eye-catching way. "Planning the Project" is the one chapter that is probably the most crucial part of this book because it covers professional help, budget, personal needs, and whether you should do the work yourself. This book also covers other areas such as functional comfort and choosing the right lighting.
The New Smart Approach to Bath Design is definitely the most informative bathroom book I have read. I hope you find it as inspiring and helpful as I did. We also have other remodeling books on the shelves, so stop in and take a look at any one of them!
