Show Her the Money

Rate this book
CPA-with-an-attitude Whitney "Pink" Pearl has just blown the whistle on the accounting scam of the decade. And in true scapegoat fashion, she's lost her job and reputation and has moved back home to start again at the bottom of the pile, working as a forensic accountant for (gasp!) her mother. There's no money trail too cold for Pink to follow. But trouble sure follows her--because Pink's not taking back her accusations, no matter how many death threats, abduction attempts and steamy kisses from lawyers of questionable ethics she receives....

4 1/2 Stars! ~ Whitney aka "Pink" is a CPA recently fired from her job for whistleblowing their fraudulent practices to the SEC resulting in hearings before a senate finance committee. Pink has been granted immunity from any wrong doing as a result of her association with her former firm. Unfortunately this immunity hinges on documents that have been recorded on disk and now the disk in unattainable for several weeks. Forced to move back to Dallas and take a job for her mother as a forensic accountant, Pink finds that her troubles have followed her. She's being threatened by her former bosses, by employees of the company she blew the whistle on, and by a stalker who likes to leave dog poo with his threatening messages. And while all this is going on, Pink's new job brings her even more danger. And to top it off, Pink now has three love interests; Senator Steve on the finance committee; her new boss, Sam; and her lawyer, Ed. But as Ed puts it, Pink likes his chilli best

This is my first Bombshell. It's written in the first person, which took me awhile to get used to. Ms. Feagan meets the challenge of creating developed characters only through Pink's eyes. This story was fun, witty, sexy and with a few moments of intrigue. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm glad this one was nominated for Best First. Ms. Feagan's Pink finds herself caught in situations that could jeopardize her immunity. Yet she manages to squeak through them with the help of her friends. This is a fun read, and well worth seeking out and reading. I'm looking forward to reading Pink's next adventure.

Whitney “Pink” Pearl (“Pink” from pink Pearl erasers – get it?) is blowing the whistle on a big accounting scam. She’s lost her job at the firm, has to testify in front of the US Senate and is pretty much persona non grata in with her old firm as well as many of the people in her home town. Mostly because they’re all losing their life savings.

She’s moved back home and reluctantly accepted a job working for her mother as a forensic accountant. In the meantime, the one piece of evidence that she does have to clear her of any involvement in the scandal was sold at a rummage sale her mother held. (In a box with a blow-up man Pink had been given as a gag gift.)

In the meantime, she has some work to do for her mother, a senator who seems to have the hots for her and a local lawyer that she thinks she has the hots for.

Frankly, this is a bad book. I’ve never seen a woman try so hard to have sex and not get any. Plus, the woman has owned fully furnished homes in the past, but now is renting a furnished apartment with a crappy bed. I just can’t believe she didn’t keep some of her own furniture. The plot isn’t bad – it’s just all that great of a book.

Five stars for awesome (and accurate!) accounting plottiness. One and a half stars for trying to make threats of sexual assault fit into a book that, even with the murders, keeps a fairly light tone. I'd like to read the sequels, but only if I can find trigger warnings for them first.

Interesting but the main girl was full of contradictions.
