Taunting him was a game I had become all too good at playing, although neither of us ended up being a winner when we played it. Our game was frustrating, heart-wrenching, and wicked, but one I couldn’t force myself to walk away from.
Noah Whitlock
The one that got away and also the one I am hesitant to let back in.
I fell hard and fast at seventeen, but circumstance kept us apart. Over the years, I caught glimpses of him around the city while he was patrolling on duty, looking impossibly gorgeous in his uniform. He’d ignore me and I’d ignore him until one of us caved and texted the other. It was always innocent… until it wasn’t.
I quickly learned that Noah was an easy man to rile up, and that I enjoyed the glint in his eye—the one that bordered on anger and lust.
He was determined to play for keeps, and I was determined to just play.

I got an ARC for this and really it's mislabeled. This isn't a romance book, or spicy anything. Really this is a science fiction book. Let me just say it was not my cup of tea and the attitude from the author has put me off to anything else of hers in the future but let's still break this down.
1. There is time travel in this book. One moment you're walking and then next minute you have skipped over hours of time and you're in bed getting your freak on. What happened in between? For something marketed as romance, we were missing important romantic details like flirting.
2. There is apparently a time loop that occurs during this book. Phrases are repeated A LOT, even the sex scenes used repeated phrasing and got really boring. There is more than one way to have sex. Also there's this magic tool called a thesaurus, might want to invest in that or an editor to help you realize you're using the same words over and over and over and over and over again.
3. They have superpowers of invisibility. I almost and should have DNFed this book early on but I was told from a friend I wouldn't regret being an ARC and I regret it all. First few pages in we're apparently in a PACKED BAR where people are drinking and filling their bladders but then the MCs head off and he cuts her spanx, yeah right, in the hallway by the bathroom and "tastes her". So no one is using the bathroom at this time? There are ZERO people near the bathroom, I mean normally there is that dreaded table there. So yeah, invisibility is cool. It is not lost on me that this is fictional either but again it is marketed as realistic fiction. It's not.
4. Let me give you a run down and see if you can name the book. The FMC is Lily who works at a floral shop. She was in a bad relationship and leaves her husband, she also has a kid so she's a single mother. Reconnects with someone from highschool and finds love there. Bueller, Bueller, Bueller. Anyone getting some serious CoHo vibes there? Sure the writing is a lot worse than CoHo and very rush but makes you wonder what the author was thinking, especially to release this right after CoHo releases her Lily book. Classy.
5. This book played out like a Marvel movie that should have been split into two but for money they decided to rush it and just throw it to the masses hoping they like it. Well this one didn't. I hope you find people that do and clearly you have a great group of friends who will gladly give you the big stars but may take your time writing next time and think it out before you just throw words (the same words as in book 1 btw, read that one first) and cross your fingers hoping it'll sell.
Like I said though, it wasn't for me. I was extremely extremely disappointed and left blank at the end with a thank goodness it was free moment.
I received an ARC Copy of this amazing novel in exchange for an honest review.
Wicked Games We Play by A. R. Rose is the second book in the Ridgewood Series. In the first novel Between the Flames, the main characters are briefly introduced. This novel can be read as a part of the series or as a standalone.
This is an Angsty, Second Chance Romance, Possessive Alpha Male, Strong FMC, Single Mom, and Sexy Detective.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🔥🔥🔥/5
Lily and Noah’s story is absolutely incredible. I was so excited to get to see how their story goes.
Lily is a Strong Single Mom who loves to “play”. The banter between Noah and Lily really makes the book 😘
Noah is a Hot Steamy 🥵 Detective who has the patience of a saint. He waited for Lily for so many years since high school to be available. He accepts her as she is and with her child.
“I’m not arresting you, flower. I’m simply reminding you, you will never not be mine.” -Noah
If you read Between the Flames, you might remember Lily and Noah. Their story continues in book 2 of Ridgewood, Wicked Games We Play.
Noah and Lily have been waiting 10 years to find their happily ever after. Noah has spent the last 10 years focusing on his career. While Lily got married, had a son, and got a divorce. When Noah finds out that Lily is getting a divorce, he believes it's their chance to be together. However, either of the characters have made it through the years apart without failed relationships and expectations they have to navigate.
This books follows Noah and Lily as they explore and discover the older version of the person they fell in love with in high school while trying to figure out if they can find a spot for them in their lives.
Wicked games we play was breathtakingly beautiful. A.R.’s writing and storytelling was so incredible I had a hard time putting it down. The love between the two characters was shown so well that I could feel it. Noah and Lily are absolutely adorable. Thank you so much to A.R. for sending me an ARC.
Noah and Lilys story is absolutely adorable. Noah has wanted Lily since they were teenagers but Lily’s life took her on another path. But now years later, Lily is newly divorced and reaching out to Noah. He never forgot about the one that got away and will do anything to make her his this time around. Lily’s journey of self discovery and becoming comfortable in her own skin is so relatable. Noah’s everlasting love for Lily will make your heart flutter. Such a beautiful edition to the Ridgewood stories.
I was very lucky and got an early ARC of this book. I will be spoiler free so will be shorter review. With that being said everyone needs to add this to there TBR! Noah and Lily story is fantastic. This is the second book in this interconnected stand alone series. Between the Flames was the first book. I loved The couple in book one and Noah and Lily are great and my new favorite . Noah and Lily are a second chance romance with lots of angst spice and a romantic relationship. This was an easy 5⭐️ read for me. The spice is this book was top notch. It had more spice then the first in the series and I’m here for it!!
Review: I really powered through this series and I now have such a book hangover. This book was so good and so palatable easy to follow with a good level of steam. I think I like Ryder and Elle over Noah and lily but it was really awesome following them and seeing what happens to them after the first book. I got the pleasure of ARC reading this and I was not let down. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next! Rosie is one of my favorites and I think she’s up next! ♥️
Couldn't wait for this book just like Noah couldn't wait for Lily to finally be his...
Well probably not exactly the same but still....and I was not disappointed...read to find out if Noah was.
So we left of wondering if Lilys texts where to Noah as predicted they where. There starts some pretty wicked games of hard to get. But lets start at the beginning.
Noah has been in love with Lily since they where in high school. Lily we find out was as well. She was just about to end her relationship with her high school boyfriend when she found out she was pregnant. While not "in love" with Ryder she loves him and for the love and best interest of her baby she decided to marry him. They tried to make their marriage work for their son Jordan but after 10 years it just wasn't working. They both realised they deserved a relationship where they where not just friends but a true love, so they divorced.
So that should leave room for Noah and Lily to finally be together. At least that is what Noah thinks. After all these years she can finally be his. But Noah has found his passions in life, had experiences and knows who he is and what he wants. Lily has had the identity of Mom and wife and she finally can figure out what she truly wants in life. She knows she has always been in love with Noah but she wants to have some experiences under her belt, know what her true career path is, time to see who she is as an adult women and if her feelings are true or some teenage fantasy coming to life.
Noah is out to prove that Lily is meant to be his wife. But he will wait he already has for 10+ years. As he try’s to win her and her heart forever you will fall for Noah as your new book boyfriend I swear....the spice, chemistry and sexual tension is just uncanny. Surprisingly you will cheer for your book boyfriend to end up with another woman…. so he can finally be with his one true love. But will Lily figure out who she is outside of a wife and mother?? if she finally does will Noah be her future or will she find out it was just a high school crush???? Highly recommend reading on to find out....
I can't wait for Rosie's book I know it absolutely going to be one to not miss with all her spiciness.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I has seen A.R. Rose on Tik Tok initially when Between the Flames was about to be released, and knew I wanted to read it because it sounded amazing. For many reasons I never got around to it before this book was announced and set to be released. So this is the first book I have read from this author. This is book 2 in the Ridgewood series (Between the Flames was book 1) and I did not feel there were any gaps while reading this story that made me feel I had to read the other one first. I am one of those people that does typically want to read things in order, but I made an exception so that I could participate in the release of this book. The characters overlap so if I had time I would have read them in order, so if you are like me do that first! However it is not necessary!
This story weaves the history between the two main characters throughout the story, giving you just enough and continuing to provide more details as you read. There were times I got antsy for things to move along (or more specifically wanted to give the MFC a swift kick in the- you know what because she was the one stalling...) but I also understood her reasons behind doing so, even if I felt it became obvious they were a moot point! This definitely added some angst and there were times my heart broke for the MMC. Thankfully everything happens exactly as it should, so it is easy to go with the flow once it becomes clear that it's leading to the best possible outcome for the circumstances and everyone gets what they need and ultimately deserve. There is a fabulous HEA after all the struggle these two go through (an put each other through... those wicked games they play...) And the epilogue?! Trust me, it's worth the journey once the reader reaches the destination.
Wicked Games We Play is the second book in the series and revolves around Lily and Noah.
Lily is the newly divorced. Her ex-husband is now engaged to Noah’s ex-girlfriend. Both Noah and Lily start growing feelings for each other back in high school, ten years prior. Lily was in a relationship at the time, but was planning on ending it to be with Noah. However, life had other plans and Lily ended up pregnant. So she got married to her boyfriend Ryder and they stayed together for ten years.
Fast forward to the present and Lily is now single and her and Noah are finally getting the chance to flirt back and forth. Lily is skeptical about being in a new relationship so quickly, how she loves the flirty games that her and Noah play back and forth.
Noah never stopped having feelings for Lily and now that she is available, he wants to be with her. The question is whether Lily will be able to take that step, or will they be playing these games forever? How much longer can Noah wait for her?
I enjoyed this book, mostly because of Noah. I loved his passion and his fierceness. He loved with his whole heart and waited so long for Lily. Lily frustrated me at times because I wanted her to just be ready to jump in with Noah even though she was struggling.
Overall, this was a good read and I’m looking forward to Rosie’s book next!
If you've read the first book Between the Flames and fell in love with Ryder and Elle, then you are going to crash into love with Noah and Lily. They are both a powerhouse, will minded and stubborn individuals and Noah's dirty talk is swoon worthy.
Noah and Lily met in high school. She was going to break up with Ryder just so she can be with Noah but due to an unexpected pregnancy, she didn't go through with it. When Noah said he would wait forever he wasn't lying. Now it's 10 years later and Lily and Ryder just got a divorce, and she instantly starts to talk to Noah again. They love tormenting each other, playing this wicked game of teasing each other with photos and steamy texts.
After getting out of one commitment, Lily's not ready for another. She feels lost and needs to figure out who she is, but Noah doesn't want to take no for an answer. He is possessive and stern but in a hot way. He will always wait forever for her. His heart belongs to Lily and only Lily. But will he really wait forever for her?
This second chance romance is steamy, spicy and sexy. Their angsty love definitely has you wanting to slap Lily a few times. Any lady will lucky enough to have a guy like Noah who loves you unconditionally for YEARS and won't give up. Will do anything and everything to protect you and make you feel loved. I loved every minute of it. Like Lily said, "I love to read about those sexy alpha males in my spicy books"
Thank you so much A. R. Rose for an ARC copy of Wicked Games We Play. I can't wait to see where this series goes from here. I just know Rosie's story is going to be epic!
✨Wicked Games We Play ✨ Book 2 in the Ridgewood Series by A.R. Rose - an interconnected standalone
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
—————— Taunting him was a game I had become all too good at playing, although neither of us ended up being a winner when we played it. Our game was frustrating, heart-wrenching, and wicked, but one I couldn't force myself to walk away from. ——————
Wicked Games We Play is the perfect title for Noah and Lily’s story. It’s like a game of cat and mouse.. 😏 a push and pull if you will.
Lily is on her path of rediscovering herself after a divorce, and that path is going to lead her to Noah one way or another. I love how she told him what she needed and that was time. She deserved it!!
Noah never gave up on his love for Lily and we see that throughout this entire book - he shows her through small and big gestures. Noah is also an alpha male, in and outside the bedroom.. seeing that side of him was so different. Swoon!
I also loved seeing Ryder & Elle make an appearance.
This story was full of love, angst, spice, growing pains.. I couldn’t get enough!
Thank you @authorarrose for letting me read this beauty early ❤️
This is the second book in the Ridgewood Series and it was even better than the Between The Flames. I adored Elle’s story in the first book but Noah’s story in Wicked As We Play was incredible. It shows a different side of relationships. A role reversal that maybe we don’t think about often. The need, want, and desire that come from Noah holding on to the idea that he and Lily can have is real. There were times I thought he could park his alpha-holeness because he comes at her strong. So many times I wanted to shake Lily and say just make a decision and stop being a d*&k tease. I get that she hadn’t been able to live her life for 10 years but there were times I was like enough. How much can one man take? Timing is everything and while Noah is away on an assignment and his time away finally gives her the time she needs to put her life in perspective. ALL OF IT!!! I loved Noah’s Alpha male protectiveness. I love his dominant way as well. He has more patience than I would with Lily. I loved their second chance story and I hope you check it out.
I was lucky enough to be able to read this book early. I have not yet read the first Between the Flames, but this story stood on its own easily enough. I loved the chemistry between Lily and Noah. Noah had fallen hard so many years ago, and now finally has a second chance with the love of his life, Lily. Lily is a young mother and newly divorced. She is unsure of what she wants to do or who she wants to be. The games they play are intense and sexy.
I LOVE Lily! She is a character I could actually see in real life. She has flaws as well as insecurities. She makes mistakes and owns up to them.
Noah is the alpha-hole of women’s dreams. He is a possessive downright dirty man with his own set of cuffs.
If you are in the mood for an angsty, sweet, real, and spicy second chance romance, this is a great choice.
Loved finding a fellow person in the same job field as I’m in doing something outside of work and following her passion 4/5 🌶🌶.5/5-based on the amount of overall spice in the book Not super spicy-but loved the spice that was there. Felt like I was constantly begging lily-like come on. But I am so excited to hear Rosie’s version. I cannot wait to hear her sass and spice come to life 🔥❤️ I think a lot of females can relate to lilys character and diving into a relationship. It’s a cute love story that started early-so you’re constantly rooting for lily and Noah. But also find yourself becoming frustrated with them as well. Noah’s everlasting love is something most of us dream about ❤️
"All I want, all I’ve ever wanted, was to give you every piece of me. and I want all of you in return” 🔥♥️
I won’t lie - at the beginning of this book I ✨ hated ✨ Noah. He gave off creepy stalker / creepy possessive vibes (I enjoy possessive MMCs in books but it’s easy to go from sexy possessive to creepy possessive lol) & I was just not vining with it. But I love this author’s writing style so I stuck with it & im glad I did!
I absolutely adore Lily - I think romance novels have a habit of having everyone perfect and just dealing with a plot line that creates interest. Lily has actually insecurities that are relatable (ie: body image) and Noah really puts her on a pedestal and shows her he loves every inch of her.
In the end, I loved Noah and Lily and I really think you got to see good character development! And the 🌶 was pretty good too, though I absolutely HATE the nickname Flower & I have no idea why 😂
I’m so excited to read Rosie’s story - I don’t know if I can wait until 2023 😭
This book is so good! I absolutely loved Lily and Noah’s stories. There was spice and it still had a good plot, and the growth of the 2 characters is amazing in this Second Chance Romance.
Summary: Lily is a single mom who is recently and mutually divorced from her ex-husband. She shares custody of her son with him and gets weekends free to go out and try to find out who she is without being a wife or mom. But Noah has other plans. He wants Lily and always has. But she is putting up a fight to see what single life is like after having a baby in high and getting married out of obligation. He knows they were made for each other but how long will it take for her to see it. As a Detective at the Ridgewood Police Department, Noah has to go undercover and have no contact with his current life, what will it take to get her to be with him before it’s too late?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
For a deeper understanding, I suggest you read the first book, which is about Noah's ex-girlfriend and Lily's ex-husband. This book starts off where Noah and Lily ended years later. Having recently divorced, Lily is playing saucy games with Noah and playing cat and mouse with him. There has always been a connection between them, but it has never been explored. I love how obsessive and dominant Noah is. I thought I loved Ryder, but I also love Noah. Noah and Lily are embroiled in a lot of tension, and I found it all to be absolutely captivating. This is a book I recommend reading. I can't wait for Rosie's book. Thank you so much for this arc.
Lily is fresh out her divorce from her son's father. She is at a crossroads. Does she go out and find herself, or does she give the one who's been waiting forever, his chance to prove he is what she needs?
Noah Whitlock has always believed that Lily was meant to be his. He's been very patient, but their games and late night texts aren't enough anymore. Will he be able to convince her that now is their time?
These two are beyond hot! The angst and intensity will make you want to keep reading until your done. This book has it all; laughs, steam, angst, and drama.
I so wanted to like Noah and Lily's story after being introduced to them in book one, but I struggled with their story. The story seemed rushed and I felt like there should have been so much more character development. I was sometimes confused by the characters' motivations. Sometimes Lily would claim to need something in her life and use it as an excuse, but not really follow up on it. She didn't seem to challenge herself enough. Life kind of just kept happening to her rather than her taking charge and really going after what she wanted. I know some will really like this one, but it just wasn't for me.
I really enjoyed this story! It continues on with a "one who got away" theme and I didnt realize how much I loved that until reading these books! Lily is coming out of a marriage that started literally right out of high school and is learning who she is as a woman. When you marry young you miss out on alot of things so she's trying to experience life on her own for the first time. Noah's always been on the sideline, loving her from a distance. And they finally get the chance they missed out on all those years ago. It's a beautiful story!
Cant wait for Rosie's story, she's a wild one so I know it's going to be great!
I was lucky enough to have received an ARC copy of this book.
This is the story of Lily and Noah, who were exes to MC of Rose's first book Between the Flames, who had met in HS and had feelings for each other that had to be pushed aside as Lily found out she was pregnant with her ex's child. Now years later, Lily and Noah have stayed in touch and begin playing a teasing game after finding out that Lily was separating from her husband.
Noah's character is so determined and makes me long for a man who would want me as fiercely as he wants Lily and as patient as he was to wait all these years knowing she belonged to him. Lily's character at times bothered me and felt like she was taking advantage of Noah's good nature and when he refused to give her just one night of fun, she would immediately threaten to find a "good time" with someone else.
The story line and concept of this book were fantastic and very much a story worth telling. Personally though, the writing style is not for me. While the concept was great at times the story and plot felt rushed and lacking during key points. So while this writing style may not be for myself, it's not to say it's not for someone else, as like I said the story line and concept are a story that should be told.
I have fallen in love with these characters all over again, they were just mentioned through the first book but now that you have actually met them, you can’t help but love them! Noah is the perfect morally grey man. While Lily is the perfect girl next door! You get alittle more of Jordan thrown into this one and I love his little personality he has! Lily finally finds herself and you couldn’t be happier for her and all her dreams coming true! You’ll cry happy tears! I can’t wait for the next book!
This is the second book in the series and second for this author. I absolutely love the world AR Rose has begun building. Both books can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading Between the Flames first
Noah is a possessive alpha who has always known what he wants! And he wants his second chance with the single mom he has always loved. I absolutely adore Noah and love his persistence and commitment to Lily. Can’t wait for the next story! Thank you for sharing these characters ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
When you fall for characters you didn’t like in previous book
I was anti Noah and Lily from the last book. They just irritated me and seem to cause more problems. However after reading this book I became a big fan especially of Noah. To have someone stuck on one love for your life and do what it takes to make them mine without being creepy. Although it was close. Lily I can understand needing time to find yourself after being married for 10 years and. It wanting to rush. Time in this case only made the hearts fonder.
I was so excited to read this just for Noah, he loves with all his heart and knows how to treat a girl. He knew he had to let her go when they were growing up and once they had their opportunity he wouldn’t let it pass him again. Lily always had feelings for Noah but some things got in the way, they found themselves again but she’s fighting her feelings because she’s always been in a commitment. You have to read to see what happens
I was excited for Noah's story and it didn't disappoint. I'm glad he finally got what he wanted all that time. It took her a while to realize but good thing she did or she would've missed out on this detective. While it took a bit for their relationship to start, it was a cute one. Noah deserved all the happiness, both relationship and career wise. I was happy with the read, especially the ending and you can't forget about the spice. 🔥
Noah and Lilys story was just so beautifully done. The relationship is very sweet and at times infuriating. Not against the author I loved the book it just made me want to know more and want to see more of how the relationship was going to end. The spice was just perfect not too much for me. Also the appearance of Ryder & Elle was just what I was hoping to see. I recommend this book and the series. Of course the author cant wait to read more from her.
