Blackbourne #2
The Girl Destined to Rise: Book Two of the Blackbourne Series
Immediately following the events in book one, Ivy, Finn and Ronin have set sail for home, but the walls of Godstone won't keep out the danger that follows. With Ivy still broken over her recent loss, she hopes to find safety and comfort back home, and introduce Finn to her family.
Soon after arriving, Ivy and her family head to Grey Raven after going months without hearing from Lady Oharra and fearing the worst, but no one is prepared for what they find. The raiders are ramping up their attacks, pushing closer to Godstone with the intent to dethrone King Magnus and conquer the North.
Magnus tries to rally his allies, but someone has been shooting down his messenger hawks. With no other choice, Magnus, Finn and the king's men ride for the Twisted Tower, while Ivy accompanies a group to Tordenfall to bring back as many warriors as they can to defend Godstone. If Godstone should fall, so too will the North.
With Finn and Ivy separated, Finn gets to know King Magnus better and the two become close.
Back home, with the North rallied and ready to fight, a new threat comes from within the walls of Godstone. Someone the Blackbourne's thought they could trust has betrayed them, sent by Helvarr to destroy them from the inside. After a fight that nearly costs Ivy everything, a mysterious woman named Kyatta informs Ivy of her fate. Kyatta has powers that Ivy doesn't understand, but she will soon unlock her own powers that have remained dormant up until now.
The battle for Godstone begins, and when Helvarr marches his army to their walls, nothing and no one will stop him- no army, no girl with her promise, not even a king.
The stakes are higher, the love deeper, battles bloodier and the ending will leave you shocked. You might even think to yourself... "I knew it."

I’m gonna need a neck brace if the rest of these books have as many plot twists as this one… talk about whiplash.
This one you can tell had to set up a lot for the rest of the series. There are a bunch of new elements that are going to play very large parts in the coming novels. And although there weren’t a whole heck of a lot of answers to your questions about them, you will still feel satisfied at the end of the novel. And trust me, you’ll be needing the next one.
I’m most excited to see what happens to our poor little Piotr.
Thank you Brittany for the ARC of this book, and for introducing me to the Blackbourne family. #StillTeamRayner

I received a free ARC copy of this book, and I've been excited to read it since the first book. As always, the cover is gorgeous. The book picks up right after the first one and Ivy's thrown into a world of chaos that continues to build as the story goes on. It had a lot of Game of Thrones vibes. The setting details were beautiful and vivid, and there were quite a few twists I didn't see coming. The middle is where things really kick into action, and oh my goodness, the ending just stabbed me. While my first guess as to the horned knight wasn't correct, I had a random thought about their identity halfway through the book, and I was partially right! What a twist. This book leaves you wanting the final one to find out what happens next.
The main thing that made me stumble in this book was the pacing and the POVS. It starts out as third person omniscient and then shifts to third person limited before moving back to omniscient against, which made it difficult for me to keep up with who I was supposed to be following. There was a lot more telling than showing, which for me took away from some of the emotions of the characters and the flow of the plot. The pacing of scenes would jump at times, often moving too quickly in some places and not always feeling like it connected with the previous one or some of the events.
This is a book for anyone looking for a GOT-like fantasy with a lot of great female leads.

(I received this book as an ARC from the author and all the opinions are my own.)
Holly molly! I just finished this book and.....???!!
I still need to process my thoughts, damn.
So here we go, the second book of the Blackbourne series, and only I know how much I loved the first one, and this one is even better.
This one was fast paced and a lot happened in this book. The writing is detailed as always and so beautiful. Some elements of the story is goddamn unique. No, I'm not exaggerating at all.
The action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat and the twists and turns of the plots left my jaw hanging. This book is a perfect mixture of plot twists, romance, some sweet moments and what not.
I don’t know how am I gonna continue with this review without spoiling anything, so I am just gonna say that I didn’t see the ending coming. I finished it a few hours ago and still shocked. Maybe after I process it, I'll edit it and write a more detailed review. All I am gonna say is, you guys need to read this series. Come on, you don’t want to miss out such a cool story!
Now I will have count the days till the next book comes out cause I am really impatient, I can't wait to know what happens. But again, Brittany kinda spoiled things to me about the next books, and now I don’t know what to expect and what not. I hope my she doesn’t break my heart.
(Forgive the mistakes and typos 🙂🙏)

I loveeeee the first book and so excited to get the chance to read this second book ARC!
What captured my heart in the first book is the writing style, which is sort of classic fairytale meeting epic fantasy and more action than telling. I'm so glad it carried on into this second book and I devoured it in almost one sitting! It was action - and emotion - packed read and I enjoyed it a lot!
This book picks up right after book 1, and I love it that way. I'm a fan of many POVs, so I really love that we get to see perspectives from many characters as the chapters keep switching character focus. Ivy character growth was great, along with her relationship with Finn. Magnus is a dear, as always, and my heart broke for him. We also get to meet a few new characters, and I just love Kyatta and Grimm!
The only small thing is... well, I'm that type who love to collect little clues and when the twist came (like horned knight reveal!) I would love to connect the dots in my mind. I don't mind if I'm right or wrong, but I just love to see previous events connected to a bigger one further in the story.
That being said... I found that new magical power additions are a little shocking because in the first book we get little to no mention about magical abilities (other than magical Luna and maybe enchanted items). As we met a few characters with "powers" they throw me off balance a little bit? I feel like they are just "shoved" into my face and it was shocking, at first.
I get that they are crucial to the story going forward! I just hope that there are more clues here and there leading to these powerful characters before. But again, it's just my personal opinion.
Overall, it was such a wonderful read and I'm so excited for book 3!

***ARC Review***
First & foremost a huge thank you to Brittany Czarnecki for giving me an ARC of this book a second time around! I’m super duper grateful 🥹.
Okay now down to the nitty gritty.
WHAT THE HECK?!!!!!!!!! Excuse me while I freak out over here in my little corner or the internet. I just… wow. This book has taken my breath away. No words. Seriously, I have no words to say what I truly feel. This gave me all the things I love in a book. Just take my emotions & twist them up in knots.
I love all the characters. Yes even Helvarr. I fell even more in love with Ivy & Finn, though I was super anxious about their relationship from time to time. Oh and now there’s some love for Piotr too. I knew why he was acting childish from the get go. All of the events that happen in this book had me pulling at my hair, biting my nails, bouncing my leg. Shoot. The ending. Lord the ending. I’m just going to starfish on the floor for moment.
PICK UP THIS BOOK!

Just like the first book in this series, I found The Girl Destined to Rise to be very entertaining!! It’s a quick, easy read. I’ve seen lots of reviews saying that it gives the same vibes as Game of Thrones and I completely agree with that. There is romance, battles, war, revenge, and a little bit of magic. A very good book for lovers of YA fantasy!

I loved this book!
The beginning was a little slow but that happens with any kind of world building and it really picks up after the first few chapters. Really I read it in two sittings, the beginning and the rest, I couldn’t put it down! As the book went on i was on the edge of my seat! The twists and turns this book took… keep your seatbelt on! Especially the ending!
Just like the first book you follow the story through multiple perspectives which helps you to piece together the story. The characters are so drastically different it’s easy to follow who the narrator is.
This book you saw a lot of character development, especially in Ivy and her relationship with Finn. You get a deeper understanding for some other characters, more beautiful imagery that paints a picture for you of the world, and some new dynamics that weren’t really there in book one.
Overall, PICK UP THIS BOOK (well pick up book one then continue on to this book)!!! It’s beautifully written and has a little bit of everything for everyone: action, dramatic reveals, magic, romance, etc. the writing is easy to read and the pace (after the beginning) is pretty quick!
So far I LOVE this series and can’t begin to guess what happens next…

Thank you so much Brittany for this ARC! In return I give you my honest opinion!
I liked this book far better than the first. It's far more action packed and really fast paced. The plot is progressing and it got what one would want from a fantasy novel. Intruiges, magic, war and epic fight scenes, a little sprinke of romance, and making the reader suffer-which is the most important one! 🤣
I feel like Ivy's character developed more in this book (which I did not feel much from the first installment) and that is great! I'm still not sure if I like Finn, but Rayner is growing on me.
We are introduced to some new likeable and hateable characters, Kyatta is very cooool, and Correlyn-hell yess, you go girl! I also want my very own Luna bird.
This installment has me very excited for the next, and let the fight for Blackbourne continue!

ARC Review!
First off, this review might be a little bias as I knew I would love this book the moment I finished the first one! (If you haven’t checked out my review for ‘The Girl Forged by Fate’ check it out at this link https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... ) and I want to thank the author Brittany Czarnecki for sending me a free e-copy in exchange for an honest review, and for dealing with all my screaming… again.
‘The Girl Destined to Rise’ takes place almost right after book ones ending and it’s fast paced, action packed and heart throbbing! We get to see more of the characters backstories and the dynamics between all of them as they all come together at Godstone. I won’t spoil anything, but some of my absolute favorites scenes are in this book! Prepare to be blushing, screaming, or opening windows while reading this awesome book!
Brittany definitely has a very unique writing style and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before in the ya genre. Not only that but her backstory placement is absolutely flawless, we get to dig deeper into the past of these characters without it dragging the story by it’s feet.
If you’re thrown off by the writing style, which is a little more telling rather than doing, the plottwists are what will truly get you! In my review for TGFBF I mentioned how i only predicted a single post twist, well for this book they were so well written that I didn’t see a single one coming. I was kept on my toes at all the major turning points and action scenes!
I could ramble on and on and on about these books but they are seriously worth the time. The emotional roller coaster ‘The Girl Destined to Rise’ will take you on will heal and then break your heart, yet make you want to turn back to page one and start all over again. Cannot wait for book three!!

Many thanks to Brittany Czarnecki for providing the ARC for reviwing.
What to say about the book?
It was great, more deep and serious than the first one.
Ivy and her family are facing new challenges and problems which arrive to their doorstep. Was pleasantly surprised how great Magnus and Rayner were with Finn.
Elana and Marcus were a really nice and funny parents with different opinions how to treat Ivy’s boyfriend. Mother’s choice was hilarious and great.
Piotr story and feelings were described so good that at the beginning i was sarcastic and doubtful about him, but at the end i could sympathize with him.
Helvarr is a devil with some fixation on kingdom and Queens.
“Wait” mode is on.
Can’t wait to read the third book.

The second Blackbourne book is quite possibly as beautiful as, and more devastating than the first! Ivy's love for her family and friends deepens as she has to face tremendous tests. Your heart will break when you read this. It will get stitched back together, and get torn open again. Brittany Czarnecki controls my emotions with this book as I grow to love even more characters. Wait until you meet the fierce and mysterious Kyatta! The Girl Destined to Rise is the fantasy knight story you didn't know you needed, but that you won't be able to stop thinking and talking about!

Ivy and Finn return to her home and begin preparing for the eventual return of the Banished Knight to their walls. Things intensify as more kingdoms fall to the raiders and they realize the messenger hawks haven’t been getting to their destinations. Gathering allies becomes near impossible but they must do what they can to protect the lands from the raiders numbers that grow by the minute. Ivy and Finn’s affections for each other are also tested in ways neither were prepared for.
Action packed and full of intrigue! So many twists and turns I wasn’t expecting but such a fun read!

Amazing follow up! So thrilled to be an ARC reader since book 1 was such a treat.
For all those having read book one be glad to know it picks up right where it left off! I may like suspenseful stories but I go feral with cliffhangers and even more so when the next installment begins nowhere near where we were. It's good to see the changes the characters face and I like the new dynamics since our characters have gone on their own quests. I am here for all of the plot twists, it is nourishment for my brain! I greatly enjoy multiple points of view so that readers can get more of the story and can know things characters don't. I think it works really well for this story and that Brittany does a fabulous job. This is a compelling story and once you read it you're hooked so take my advise and read this series!

Ah, what to say about this book?
Take everything great about The Girl Forged by Fate, amplify it, and add more magical elements.
There’s also plenty of twists along the way which are unexpected, but make perfect sense in retrospect. The one at the very end… make sure you’re not eating or drinking anything or you might have issues from the shock of it.
Ok, so what issues are there? Waiting for book three. That’s it.

There were CLIFFHANGERS needing answered in this book and we got them. I won’t say more because of spoilers.
However, we pick up with Ivy exactly where we left off and Finn is introduced to the family! We get to see Ivy balance her two favorite men while grieving the loss of a dear friend. This book was definitely darker and heavier. Relationships are challenged and tested. Ivy has to put all her training to use now and her dad realizes he has to let her. I loved seeing Finn interact with Magnus. We got SO much of Finn’s backstory and I ate it up. Truly each character had their own griefs to fight through and heal from, only for new griefs to arise. We had so many POVs again which was lovely! Again, there weren’t any I didn’t like which is sometimes the case in more than 2 POV switches. You’re constantly juggled from one person to the next as you die for answers for all of them.
THE PLOT TWISTS hold on to your butts. Everything was just more. More romance, more stress, more sacrifice and joy and reunion and fighting. You’ll finish this book with your jaw on the floor.

I have received this book as an ARC from the author and this review is 100 percent honest and 100 percent my opinion.
Romance: 🌶🌶.5/5
Action: ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️/5
Emotional Damage: ⚡️⚡️.5/5
This book has;
✨plot driven story
✨YA level sweet romance
✨ battles for saving the kingdom
✨sword fights
✨plot twists
✨many characters to root for
What I liked about this book;
📌I normally read darker books but I felt like reading a YA would be good for me and it definitely was.
📌Character growth for both IVy and Finn
📌The relationship between Finn and Ivy, it was lovely to read about
📌The writing style was even paced and action filled
If you like action more than romance, Game of Thrones but in a YA level, then you will enjoy this book. I read darker books with explicit contents more often so when I applied for the ARC I didn't know what to expect but I honestly enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.

Back from the depths of academic hell I return. The twists and turns leave one spinning and ready for the adventure ahead!
There are a lot of disparate threads in this book compared with the first one, particularly in the first half. I wish those threads had been pulled a little tighter with some more worldbuilding explanation because I am intrigued but left a little in the dark wishing for more.
The second half of the book was such a fun time! Had a rhythm that kept me moving along with so many twists.
I am very excited to read the next book when it comes out!

Well, that was a ride!
I received an ARC for an honest review.
I’ll keep this as spoiler free as I can!
The Girl Destined to Rise follows up from the events of the last book. Where the previous book established characters, relationships, and plot, this book deepened the lore in an effective way.
It continues what was established, and adds to it in a way that feels like a natural progression. I personally never felt thrown off by any reveals, because they made sense to me in the greater scheme of things.
What stood out to me was the further development of Ivy and Finn’s relationship. I feel like we get to really know them and their relationship in this novel. I really enjoyed moments that focused on them, because I felt the relationship deepen and grow.
Another aspect that I enjoyed was the faster pace, and the action. Especially towards the end.
Speaking of endings… I’m not going to lie, that ending and epilogue shook me. Easily my favorite moments from the book.
I enjoyed myself so much that I purchased the paperback and reread it before writing this review.
If you’re interested in YA fantasy with a dash of romance, then I recommend this series.
The books are a quick read, and quite enjoyable to read.
Also, I’m team #Helvarr all the way. I adore messy characters. See you all in hell!

Book 2 in the series. I read the first one because the author grew up next door to us and we wanted to support her but we soon fell in love with the characters she created. It was wonderful being back in their world for book 2! It’s a story about family and about love but has plenty of adventure and many twists. There are 4 books in this series so I look forward to more adventures!

ARC review - -
OMG this book... I love this story so much and I absolutely adore Ivy and Finn. There were so many times where I was sure that I knew what would happen, but then once I got to the spot I was thoroughly incorrect LOL. LIKE THE HORNED KNIGHT REVEAL! Whaaaa. I was so sure in all my guesses but was 100000% thrown off. My heart was racing the during the entire thing.
Also, I love love love that I was put into the book and to help Finn nonetheless! <3 (:
I love the depth of this book. You really get to go inside the minds of many characters. So much so that your judgement of character you may have disliked in book 1 changes. If I had all the time in the world, I would pick these books up and not put them down until I'm done. But alas, life! The story is just soo well written and developed that you really cannot help getting sucked in. The characters are amazing and relatable.
Long story short... I laughed, I cried, I cursed Brittany... I looooved it.
Seriously cannot wait until book 3.
Well done!
