I’ve never heard of this author before, and I’m really surprised that more people aren’t talking about this book. It was really fascinating and fun to read. Like about of other people (perhaps) I was very curious about the Titanic and the tragedy of the events that led to it sinking when I was a kid, so I really liked that the author obviously did so much research and put a lot of actual facts into the story. It was a great read.

“It would be Titanic’s last sunrise. The last touch of heat.
The last time the etchings on the wood and metal would be read.
The last day for music, for hot presses in the kitchens, for printed menus and iceberg warnings, for laughter, for amazement of man’s greatest design.
And for most, life.
It was the silent, creeping death that would grip the ship and everyone on it in a mere seventeen hours.”

This story really amazed me! It eloquently mixed the tragedy of the Titanic with mythological creatures. You can tell the author has put so much research and energy into this story- it’s full of detailed description of the “unsinkable” ship, historical facts, and a mixture of characters from different classes.

It was really captivating and I’m so glad that I stumbled upon it! Surprisingly there are a few other vampires-on-boats tales out there, but this one has been my favourite.

4.5 stars rounded up. Vampires on the Titanic causing chaos and feeding on just enough of the innocent passengers to tide them over until they reach America. But we all know what happened to the Titanic. Their plans spoiled by an iceberg. That’s when the real chaos starts. My only complaint was the ending. It felt like it was missing something.

Blood & Salt is a book that I first saw on TikTok and that just wouldn’t leave my mind. Horror doesn’t work for me very often but I was just so intrigued by the idea of vampires on the titanic.

To switch things up a bit from my usual complaints, I actually enjoyed the character development in this one! There were tons of POVs in this book, which can be a bit of a turn off for me, but it really worked here. We did have some characters that became more recurrent eventually and who the story revolved around more later in the book. It felt really well done to me.

What was lacking here was more about the storytelling. The plot had a good pace for most of the story and I liked seeing it from so many POVs. I also liked seeing how the danger was viewed by the different social classes, though it did feel a little black and white to the extreme at some points. The part I was struggling with was that the storytelling overall felt… mellow. I didn’t really feel any suspense or excitement or fear or any other strong emotion while reading, even during the climax of the story.

I was worried that having truly scary vampires might make this book too dark for me but in the end that wasn’t an issue at all. That could make this a good book for people new to horror that are worried about the same thing I was. I personally wanted more feelings while reading this though. Other than that, it felt well developed and researched and I’m definitely curious to see what else the author has written.

I love books and films where the concept sounds stupid as hell, but makes a great story. Vampires on the Titanic definitely comes under this.
Mullins clearly did his research about the ship - the layout, the passengers, the events of the night of the sinking - and that means that the book is compelling and well written, as well as being gory and a unique concept. The sinking is a horror story in itself, to be honest. The vampires are wonderful creations...I liked the mix of rules they were given, especially the use of being able to turn into a smoke, which you don't see used every often these days. They are monstrous vampires too, which I always enjoy, rather than any kind of high society creature.
The human characters are compelling too, and Mullins makes the wise choice to stick to 3 main ones, with a couple of pertinent POVs popping up once in a while. I think you get the horror of both situations in this book - the horrifying, bloody lusting vampires, and the massive ship that's sinking in freezing water.
A really great read, exciting and well paced.

I did not know I needed this book!! I really enjoyed it. It is creative and surprising!!!

The unsinkable Titanic set off on her maiden voyage, but little did the passengers know that a cruel, old creature was aboard the ship. A vampire...

When two Thieves investigate a box they believe is filled with gold and riches in the cargo hold, they discover the box with an old Irish king instead. Removing the yew dagger throws the entire doomed voyage into even more chaos.

I would have never thought to put vampires and the Titanic together, and I honestly loved the combination. Thank you so much for writing this book! I couldn't put it down.

Blood & Salt // Hubert Mullins
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“And this would be Titanic’s final breath. Its death throes were upon it.”
This book is a perfect mixture of horror and historical fiction. If you are Titanic obsessed, you are going to be extremely impressed by the genuine effort and sincerity the author explores to bring this novel to life. The story is extremely well written, it flows perfectly and keeps the reader engaged. The Easter eggs are such a treat, sprinkling fact in with fiction makes it so much more entertaining. The vampires are legit creepy, their descriptions are haunting and leaves you with a sense of dread throughout the novel. Atmospheric, tragic, enchanting, and sinister, this book checked off all the boxes for me. I highly encourage you to check this one out!

Vampires on the Titanic! To start, I should say that I am not a vampire person. I don’t normally read vampire stories or watch vampire movies. I noticed a lot of talk about this book in a Facebook group I’m in and was lucky enough to receive a code for the audiobook from the author so I figured what the heck. Was it something I’d normally read not really.. but I wasn’t disappointed and am glad I did. It held my interest and I wanted to know what happened. I enjoyed the characters and could picture what was happening. It was very well written and you can tell the author took time to research. I will definitely read more from Hubert!

Hubert L. Mullins has done it again! I absolutely love when history meets horror. Those are two of my favorite things and this book does NOT disappoint. Reid quickly became one of my favorite characters with his love of reading but his transition from the beginning of the book to the end, will only make you love him more! Even though the monsters in this story are familiar to us, they were still unique. Blood & Salt grabs your attention almost immediately and keeps ahold of it until the end! I would advise you to grab a copy and get to reading! Enjoyed this one so much!!

Oh my gosh I absolutely loved this!!

Titanic sets sail on April 10, 1912 but unbeknownst to the passengers and crew there is something sinister lurking in the cargo hold...a vampire. All hell breaks loose when two would be thieves awaken the vampire and he sets off on a bloody rampage.

I have always been a fan of vampires they're my favorite supernatural creature and I also adore Titanic so I feel like blending the two was an absolutely brilliant idea on the part of Mr. Mullins. Kudos to you good sir. I thoroughly enjoyed your book.

When I saw that Blood & Salt by Hubert Mullins was about the voyage of Titanic that included a dark secret, I just knew I had to read it. I loved the historical fiction aspect of it, being that included characters of actual people who sailed on Titanic. Both the story and the character development were compelling. The chapters were quick and I sailed through the book in a couple of days.

Great Book!
50 years ago, I loved vampire books (and werewolves, and other evil creatures)
Then something awful happened. Vampires got sexy, and romantic and pretty- beyond handsome. BLEECH!

Now this is a vampire story, mixed in with afairly accurate lay out and set up of the Titanic.

If you like vampires and a unique fictional story as to why the Titanic sunk, you’ll like this. It just wasn’t for me and I had to push myself to finish it for book club. I appreciate the author’s research into historical details surrounding the Titanic itself. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the premise. That’s all I have to say about that. 🧛🏼‍♂️🚢

First off, I will literally read anything that has to do with the Titanic so when I saw this it was an immediate yes. However, I didn’t have high expectations for it because I figured it would be a “silly” story but I was wrong. It was awesome 😂 the talkings about the ship were excellent and you can tell that Hubert Mullins really took the time to fact-check himself (he even states it in his authors note). He put a lot of effort into this book detailing the ship, its travel and various real life passengers. Now on to the vampire aspect, it was thrilling, creepy and perfect. It made an excellent book to imagine vampires out at sea with all they desire trapped in the middle of the ocean with nowhere to go. Easy 5 stars for me!

A really fun and entertaining mashup of Dracula and Titanic. Fast-paced, almost over the top at times, but an extremely original take on classic vampire tales.

What a fun book! Imagine watching Titanic and Dracula at the same time if you can- that is Blood & Salt! As a Titanic buff and a fan of vampire stories, I loved this story!
Historical fiction lovers will love this too! The author really did his homework as this was historically pretty spot on.
Great concept and storyline, good character development and perfect pacing. I didn't want this book to ever end, but I also couldn't stop myself from devouring it!
Many thanks to the author for the complimentary Audible code!
I liked the readers portrayal of the different character and her Irish accent sounded legit to me! The only thing I would change is the mispronounced words ( ie- ether, carotid) although perhaps it is a UK thing???
It did take me out of the story for a moment, but the tale pulled me right back in!
I give this book 5 ⭐️ and 5🩸!

Vampires and the Titanic, what could be better than that?! You would be forgiven for thinking this was going to be some over the top ridiculous B-movie type plot. This book is so much more than that, and I'm here for it!

I have always been fascinated with stories of the Titanic. It was so magnificent for the time, and I can only imagine how lucky those aboard felt as the ship set sail.

This book does not disappoint and paints a detailed picture of the ship of dreams. The author did his research, and I almost felt like I was on board. I  liked the depiction of the class divide and the arrogance of man even when horrors are unfolding all over the place. The book gave a brutal portrail of whom was deemed worthy of saving, not unlike the disaster itself.

The vampire action was what I would want from a good vampire tale. He was dark and brooding and had grand plans. I enjoyed his awakening, although mentally was yelling,'What are you doing, you fool' to those that let him free. Comeuppance comes swiftly on board this ship of nightmares.

I got to love some of the characters, and the story kept me hooked until the very end. I would definitely recommend this book if you like a good vampire tale and want a different concept.

A really good twist on the Titanic story. I have always been fascinated with the Titanic and absolutely think it is a great setting for an isolation horror story. It was well rounded with very vivid characters and creatures. There was a story of love and history, hope and horror. I definitely recommend this.

Fantastic book. Vampires on the titanic. The authors architectural description of the Titanic was absolutely amazing. I felt like I was on the ship with the passengers and the vampires, unfortunately. I can definitely see this book being turned into a movie. It's thrilling, gory, and on the edge of your seat the entire time. Loved it. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

What a fun ride this book was! From the start, you’re on edge, knowing what actually happens to the Titanic, but realizing what is on board adds a dark, supernatural twist that makes you forget the fate of the doomed ship until it actually hits the iceberg. This blend of historical fiction/horror/lore was fantastic. Highly recommend this one!

The Titanic story I never knew I needed ❤️
what's more nerve wrecking then being stuck in a ship that's capsizing into below freezing water? being stuck on said ship with a boat full of vampires! this was such a fun read and I really appreciated the little details in this book that paid homage to the original story. definitely gives the contenders of the indie horror book brawl 2024 a run for their money !

And now we know

I loved this book. It has 2 of my very favorite things in it, the Titanic and Vampires. And the Vampires are truly scary since they can become a mist and easily travel to sneak up on their next feast. A must read for vampire and Titanic lovers...what an interesting view of this historical event.
