Everything’s coming up roses… And all the while the Storm Syndicate watches and waits in the shadows.
For the first time in Nick’s life, he and his cousin are going their separate ways. Nick has some unfinished business to deal with. And he has a feeling that “unfinished business” is why he suddenly has an assassin after him. Though as assassin’s go, his feels more like a partner in crime.
Nicholas Colbert was a target. Nothing more, nothing less. Rieka had the contract and gold coin to prove it. Why then, does every battle between them feel more like a tango? A dance as flirtatious as it is deadly. It makes things difficult, but Rieka will carry out her assignment.
The battlefield becomes muddied when undercurrents running through the Ferrymen’s Guild leave Rieka and Nick battling enemies together. Back-to-back, soul to soul.
This is book 2 of the Storm Syndicate Series. The story between Rieka and Nick is standalone, but it is best read in series order.
I live in Western New York, just outside the city of Buffalo, with my husband. I'm a lifelong Sabres and Bills fan, love the food, music, and festivals Buffalo offers. I enjoy camping, especially in the mountains, hiking, and visiting museums. When I'm not typing my fingers to the bone or scribbling story ideas into notebooks, I can usually be found reading, crocheting, or painting (badly). I have a love of all things crafty, magical, or unusual. Huge nerd, especially when it comes to history and mythology. My brain is full of stories, characters, random bits of trivia, and movie quotes. I have a ridiculously corny sense of humor and a love of dogs and dragons.
Love Rieka and her story. How she and Nick come together and their banter. Sionna takes her time in character development and as a result it is very believable even in a fantasy world.
I put off reading this book way to long and just finished in time for the release.
Nicka and Reika are certainley a very unique couple.
I don't like this couple as mush as Tristan and Sarin, but these two have a completley different vibe to them. I like the mouse and the hunter, but I was so thrown off with Storm in the mix. And there's a lot of information and it was the reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.
I didnt plow through this as fast as the first book, still enjoyable.
I still had problem with the jumps between the POV's in each chapter. I need a header or title when there's a new POV. It gets a little confusing at times, I quickly found who it was and what was happening. As such it took me some time to actually get into the book. The random POV also threw me off.
I really enjoyed this fast-paced, edge-of-the-seat action. The writing is good, the feelings and motivation of the characters coming from behind the words. I also enjoyed the way the characters of Rieka and Nicholas were crafted, their good core buried deeply beneath their trauma and their circumstances. I definitely want the next book as soon as possible!.

We meet Nick in Soul Storm and it’s fabulous to see his story get told. This is just as gritty as Soul Storm was and not everything is as black and white as things seem. These characters are quite grey but don’t mess with them! I love how Sionna put music into it and why it was used. The side characters are also, totally brilliant.
I was still up at half past midnight reading this and damn, I could NOT put this book down. It was only because I couldn’t actually read, I had to. Totally brilliant and the snippet from the next? Oh, WOW! Just, WOW!
This time we circle towards Nicholas (Tristan's cousin from Soul storm), and his love interest Reika in this banger of a novel.
Reika is on the opposite ends, part of the guild (reminds me somewhat of the handmaid's tale), and has a job to finish Nicholas due to some tussle between the storm syndicate and the guild.
But people fall in love in mysterious ways, and Reika is no different towards Nicholas, who is a charmer and a complete sweetheart in his own rights, despite being a bodyguard and killer, and well full of old world charm and...powers.
Soon, they're both being hunted and a surprise twist falls in their lap, to which they also have to protect.
Will they make it?
Well in my books, they're an awesome couple who make it through, even beating the best of odds like mr and mrs smith (wholly better) and with a lot more character development and tragic backstory to match than his cousin tristan's (sorry honey), and just come out fighting strong like a true assassinating couple, and their twists. And action is equally matching, with total deviousness from the villains and some side shock reveals to match the vibe and give you a complete whiplash moment from time to time, making it quite a shocking, steamy violent and thrilling fantasy romance for the win.
I cannot wait for the next read, Psychic storm, story of Cam and Susannah's, up next, coming in a month!
Oh Nick, looks like you've met your match. And this time your charm isn't going to work.
Nick intrigued me in soul storm. He didn't say much but when he did it was either the voice of reason or laced with charm. However you got the feeling that all that charm was hiding a secret. A secret that's revealed in this book. And because of that secret, he meets his match. A badass assassin, who has him in her sights...and not for the reasons he hoped.
Rieka was convinced that the only life for her was an assassin's life. Never being able to find love or have a family. Something she thought she wasn't worthy of. That is, until she met her mark. Nick captivated her for reasons she couldn't understand. Until he spoke to her...through her mind.
This book starts off strong, full of action and asskicking but the middle of the book slows down and it takes a while to get back to the action. The last few chapters throw you a curve ball and the epilogue leaves you warning the next book already.
It's a good read that answers some of the questions from the first book and yet leave you wanting to know more about all the characters in this world.
Bard’s Storm (Storm Syndicate series book 2) by Sionna Trenz is a paranormal dark romance. This series is an off shoot of the Stargazer world but I can say you can read this series without starting those first. I plan on reading them after this series though. This book is just as good as the first with the plot overlapping and growing with the second book. The characters continue to gain strength and development in this book. While the book focuses on Nicholas we still learn about others. Nick and his cousins separate to take care of things which is great for the assassin, Rieka. She is on a mission to get him but little does she know it’s her heart in trouble. They end up fighting on the same side more often than against each which doesn’t help in the heart department. Where with this steamy romance end up? I flew through this it was just that good and I am ready for book 3. This series is so good and I adored the characters. Great job!
I really enjoyed the complex relationship between Rieka and Nicholas. The action and dialogue are engaging and well written and I love a fictional world where assassins met myth and magic but set against a backdrop of the real world environment versus a fantasy one. These two definitely had great chemistry as their relationship evolved.
There were times when the backstory slowed the pace of the book a bit but I believe it was needed for the reader to grasp the characters’ unique situations and the various organizations in conflict with one another.
I’d definitely recommend giving this a read if you like your paranormal romance with Mr & Mrs. Smith vibes.
🔸️ This one is definitely lighter than book 1. Of course, there are still some heavy topics here, but they do not dominate story. Mostly, it is because of chemistry between MC's which can be descirbed as reverse grumpy/sunshine. 😉
🔸️ Nicholas, Mr. Sunshine, had little to no filter and is definitely a "good talker". Reika, Mrs. Grumpy, is a cold blooded, hard-core asassin. Their romance has "Mr and Mrs Smith" vibes, good banter and steam.
🔸️The story has action, violence, mystery, crime and mythical lore.
Another fantastic instalment in the Storm Syndicate series. Delightfully hot and steamy. Great characters, and a well written storyline. Would recommend. Cannot wait for the next book.

Really enjoyed this book. Not as much as book 1, but still enjoyable! (This is a personal opinion)
Nick and Reika have a fun and unique relationship going on but I personally thought that the dynamic for them needed something… more? Let’s see what book 3 throws at me :)
Absolutely a sizzling and magical book I absolutely enjoyed. Sionna you upped the bench with this one. I so enjoyed the play between the main characters and the storyline kept bringing more surprises I received a complimentary copy from the author and leave this review voluntary Thank you
