About the author

Lucía Etxebarria de Asteinza is a Spanish writer. She was born in Valencia in 1966, of Basque parents as her name suggests, the youngest of seven children. The Basque surname Etxebarria has no diacritics, although its Spanish version Echevarría has. Etxebarría was a typo that she liked and adopted as a nom de plume, though it is not used in all her books.

Her first book was Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s biography: La historia de Kurt y Courtney: aguanta esto (1996). Her first novel, Amor, curiosidad, prozac y dudas (1997) received Ana María Matute's support, and situated her in the Generacion Kronen scope. The following year her second novel, Beatriz y los cuerpos celestes, won the Nadal prize.

With De todo lo visible y lo invisible (2001) she won the Primavera Prize. With Un milagro en equilibrio, she obtained the 53rd Planeta Prize in 2004. In addition to these books and many other titles she has published poetry; her collection Actos de placer y amor won the Barcarola Poetry Prize in 2004. She has published two collections of feminist essays, and has also worked as a scriptwriter.

In 2011, Etxebarria said she would stop writing, claiming that digital piracy of her books had made writing not worth the effort.

De Lucía Etxebarria lo único que he leído han sido dos ensayos, y me han gustado mucho los dos. En La Eva Futura, la autora teje sus opiniones sobre el futuro que nos aguarda (sobre todo pensando en las mujeres) con historias de su vida. Sin ser yo fan de esta escritora, es decir, sin tener ningún tipo de aprecio o querencia a priori por ellla, me pareció que es un libro fantásticamente escrito y que , aunque no se puede estar de acuerdo con todo lo que dice, la lectura es interesantísima. Disfruté mucho.

"Si esta juventud no parece mostrar excesivo interés por el mundo que les rodea, puede que sea porque el mundo que les rodea en nada les tiene en cuenta: no les tiene en cuenta su modelo de estructura social, basado desde su origen sólo en la idea de familia; ni les tiene en cuenta su modelo político, que les ha vendido a los imperativos económicos y que les ha traicionado en cuestiones tan básicas como las relativas a la mera subsistencia"

Me tardé muchísimo leyendo este libro jajaja pero era porque no tenía tiempo por la universidad. Me gustó, me pareció interesante pero también pasado de moda, ya que este libro fue escrito hace 20 años. Tiene algunas cosas interesantes aunque algunas otras muy ladrilludas que me costaron. En fin, ahí, medio tibito.

Sólo me leí "La letra futura" (la otra parte del libro de momento no me interesa) y está bien, habla principalmente del mundo editorial y cosas como por qué escribe ella, aunque a veces se le va mucho la pinza y lo mezcla con discursos que no tienen mucho que ver o con sus paranoias.

I like Lucía's style. It's a collection of essays written by an intelligent woman. Worth a read, especially if you are interested in femminism.
