Samuel Harden’s life turns upside down when tragedy strikes, leaving him a broken man, physically and mentally. He can’t take the looks of pity and sadness every time he leaves his father’s mercantile in the town of Silver Springs. What he needs is a fresh start, to go somewhere no one knows him or his circumstances, to make a name for himself. A sudden opportunity arises in Last Chance, Nebraska.
Leaving his family and friends behind, Sam goes to the drought-ridden state of Nebraska, longing to make a difference in the lives of others as well as make things right in his own life. When he arrives, he meets a woman who threatens to steal his heart.
Lanie Carlisle is struck speechless when her older brother informs her he sold their childhood home without her consent. Having just lost her father, she’s still grieving when Bart drops this on her lap.
Not knowing what her future holds, Lanie struggles to accept what God has in store for her. And then she meets the new owner of her home.
Can Sam and Lanie find common ground as they work together and maybe find love in the process, or will their own pasts hinder what God has in store for their future?
I really have to wonder why Samuel choose Last Chance as the place to open a boardinghouse unless he got a really good deal from Lanie’s brother. It is interesting what/who he was expecting “spinster” Lanie to be. I’ve loved the Last Chance series and Lanie’s love for her town is obvious. I have to admire her. Joi Copeland has given us interesting storyline, wonderful characters, humor, romance and a few surprises.
This is a sweet and heartwarming story of two people who have experienced their share of tragedy and disappointment and are seeking a change. This is Samuel and Lanie's story, and the character development is excellent. Sam is looking for a new start after having suffered a tragedy and heads for Last Chance, Nebraska looking for an opportunity to help others. Lanie is reeling from discovering that her brother has sold their childhood home without consulting her. Upon his arrival in Last Chance, Sam meets Lanie and Lanie learns Sam is the one who bought the family home. As the couple works together, will a HEA be in their future. Be sure and read this outstanding story to find out; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Lanie's brother comes all the way from New York to inform her that he's sold the only home Lanie has ever known. Labor's mother died giving birth to her, so her father raised her by himself. Unfortunately, her father died unexpectedly, causing her brother to sell the house to a man who wants to turn her home into a boarding house. The only good thing, is that her brother stipulated in the sale of the home that Lanie can continue to live there as a kind of maid to the new owner. Once the new owner arrives, they both end up turning to God to figure out what their futures hold.
There is quite a bit of hurt and sorrow within the pages if this story. It looks like brighter days may come for Lanie but may have to read more in the series to find out.
This is my second Last Chance book. I read #1 but I got this one for .99 cent. I really enjoyed this story. I like the first one too with Hart Chapman. I’ve really enjoyed all the Chapman books. I recommend this story. ❤️📖📖❤️
