From international rock star Kevin Jonas and Danielle Jonas comes an imagination-focused picture book about how to overcome the rainy-day doldrums and find the fun in every situation.
Bella loves the beach.
She loves the flip and flop slap of her feet on the sand. She loves the crash, crash, crash of the ocean waves. And she loves the gentle shush, shush of the beach umbrella in the breeze.
But a rainstorm hits and Bella’s perfect family beach day is ruined.
This day is a rainy, awful mess!
But maybe a little imagination, and a loving family, can show Bella that a beach day at home can be its own special kind of fun.
Paul Kevin Jonas Jr. (born November 5, 1987) is an American musician and actor. He rose to fame as the lead guitarist of the pop rock band Jonas Brothers alongside his younger brothers Joe and Nick. Jonas became a prominent figure on the Disney Channel alongside his brothers in the late 2000s, gaining a large following through the network: he appeared in the widely successful musical television film, Camp Rock (2008) and its sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010) as well as two other series, Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream (2008–2010) and Jonas (2009–2010).
After the group confirmed a hiatus in 2012, Kevin appeared on his own E! reality series that same year, Married to Jonas, with his wife, Danielle. Following the band's initial break-up in 2013, Jonas appeared on the seventh season of The Celebrity Apprentice in 2014, founded the construction company Jonas Werner, and became the co-CEO of The Blu Market, an influencer marketing company. In 2019, he rejoined the Jonas Brothers following their reunion. The group would go on to release their fifth studio album. The reunited Jonas Brothers appeared in two Amazon Prime Video documentaries named Jonas Brothers: Chasing Happiness and Happiness Continues in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
This picture book is for kids and talks about dealing with major disappointments and overcoming rainy days in life. In the book, Bella is excited to go to the beach but can't because of the weather. Instead, she decides to a beach in her bedroom with a picnic set up, games, and beachy activities. She learns that you can find the fun in any day, even the disappointing ones.
This book's illustrations are so fun, colorful, happy, and summery. I also loved the seashell jewelry, which was a nice touch. The book plays with language and makes it fun to read. It also subtly shares a message about making the most of any day, even if it isn't what you expected, which I think is a great message for kids today.
THERE'S A BEACH IN MY BEDROOM is a cute picture book about family, disappointment, and creativity. Bella loves family day at the beach, and she is bursting with excitement, even though it is raining. When her family tells her that they won't be able to go as it is supposed to rain all day, Bella is disappointed and does not want to do anything else. Then, her family comes up with an idea and brings the "beach" into her bedroom. With plenty of creativity, they all have the best beach day ever.
What I loved: This is a really sweet story about family and creative solutions. While Bella was disappointed with not being able to go to the beach, her family helps to create the best beach day by coming up with ways to do all the beach stuff at home, such as building a sandcastle out of blocks and collecting bead seashells. The story is told with a lot of dialogue that children will find engaging and plenty of color in the illustrations. The font is also large and easy to read for caregivers.
Final verdict: THERE'S A BEACH IN MY BEDROOM is a sweet picture book read about family and creativity that will charm young readers.
I bought "There's A Beach In My Bedroom" purely out of nepotism, because it was cowritten by Kevin and Danielle Jonas (illustrated by Courtney Dawson). Obviously, I was going to buy it; obviously.

It's about the joy of imagination and the power of family. It's resilient as fuck without being outright about it. It's colorful and bright. It's supportive and wonderful. And so, so cute!
Nepotism aside, I would tooooootally recommend this book to anyone with kiddos, anyone who works with kiddos, or anyone who likes to read picture books.
I must admit I liked the first book better (There's a rock concert in my bedroom), but this book wasn't bad. I feel like it was a bit more difficult to find the theme for this book, or maybe I just like the theme of the other book better. But I'd say the theme here is dissapointment, dealing with it, but also family, and how we can help each other to get in a better mood. The book is very fun and colorful, the language is easy, so kids who's first language isn't English could also read this one. Not every picturebook for kids have to have a very clear message, sometimes you could just read for fun!
This story show an imaginative and creative solution to a problem. This reminded me of my mother’s plan for when I could not go to the December nursery school picnic because I had the chicken pox. This was in our living room with a green blanket for grass and a tan blanket for concrete/playground and picnic food. Thank goodness for adults like my mother and the parents in this book who can turn disappointment into an opportunity to have a fun time, just a little bit differently. I enjoyed the story and the colorful & expressive illustrations. 4-1/2 stars
Bella loves the beach - the hot sun, the ocean waves - it's the best! When she wakes up on Beach Day and it's raining, she is crushed. She won't get to enjoy her special beach snacks or have fun looking for shells with Mom. Just when she is feeling super blue, her family gathers together & saves the day: they bring the beach to her! This uplifting story shows us that even when life can be disappointing, you can still have fun!
Honestly, go off Kevin and Danielle. There are plenty of celebrities who think they can write a picture book and very few who do it well. This is such a great story that many kids will relate to and it reveals just how loving their relationship with their daughters must be. This is a sweet story about a family cheering each other up in the face of disappointment. .
Celebrity-written picture books are usually terrible, but this one is really good! It has appeal factors beyond the names on the front cover, and it's a really cute story about family togetherness and using your imagination to bounce back from disappointment and have fun anyway.
When the weather turns against your beach day, what do you do? Create your own at home with your favorite people. So easily read aloud and I will be doing so during Summer Reading with my preschoolers.
I read this one for story time at Barnes and Noble. What happens when beach day gets rained out? A beach in a bedroom day! This was a cute and creative solution to a common problem. We should all have some beach days inside.
Bella and her family love going to the beach, but when a storm ruins their plans it will take a little imagination to get their beach day back on track
